HT1338 Apple's software update doesn't find any updates?

Since updating to OS 10.8.3 the software update does not seem to work anymore. Recently iTunes came up with a message saying that a new version was available but clicking on the update option it re-directed to the App Store and a notification appeared stating that no updates were available. Doesn't make sense to me, especially if I search online on the Apple website I find plenty updates!
Is this a known glitch or am I doing something wrong here? This problem has occured on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Bye the way, an update to 10.8.4 hasn't changed a thing.

Maybe this?

  • Adobe update isn't finding any updates on a fresh install

Hi, I recently re-installed Adobe CS4 and activated it, and I recall there being a bunch of updates captured by Adobe Updater, but it keeps saying there aren't any, and that "some updates for the following products cannot be determined at this time: Adobe Updater". So I tried downloading and installing adobe updater from adobe.com, and it still gave me the same error.
I understand Adobe doesn't support CS4 anymore, but shouldn't they still be supporting existing patches and updates? Not necessarily making new ones? Like how Microsoft doesn't support XP anymore, but you can still update to SP3 through windows update?

  • Software Update doesn't find 10.5.7 Update

I have a 3-month old MacBook Pro and software update doesn't find the 10.5.7 update, About This Mac says my system is 10.5.6. I also have an orginal MacBook Pro running Leopard and this finds it.

Forget software update, it's better to update through combo (or directly downloaded from apple site) anyway.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1057comboupdate .html
Make sure to verify/repair the disk, and repair permissions from the OSX install disk Disk Utility before updating.
Also if you have Disk Warrior run that before and after install.
Lastly, most importantly...CLONE your drive before any install.
Use Superduper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.

You must first buy Snow Leopard from Apple: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US)
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools

As Retired Engineer indicated, you will need to install Snow Leopard first.  After you install Snow Leopard, you need to go into Software Update and perform the updates.  10.6.6 will install the App Store.  You should continue to update to 10.6.8 before purchasing and installing Lion from the App Store.
Be sure your machine meets the minimum requirements.  Basically, any Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor or later and at least 2GB of RAM (but 4 is highly recommended).  If you have a first generation MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion.

  • Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • New 2009 Mac Pro, Software Update never finishes (finds no updates/result)

I have a brand new 8-core Mac Pro (new 2009 Nehalem-based model). The configuration is stock, 2.26GHz CPUs and 6GB of RAM. Bought this at the Apple Store yesterday. It is fresh out of the box; I have not even installed anything yet.
When I run Software Update, the "Checking for new software..." sheet appears, and the progress bar gets about 10% done, and then it just hangs there. For hours, so I assume infinitely.
The Software Update program is not crashed--you can still pull down the menus, and if you click Cancel, it will. It just never finds any updates. Nor does it finish the process and tell me my system is up to date.
I tried it on the command line too, and it hangs in the same way:
    *IT-PC-MACPRO-1:~ mason$ softwareupdate --list*
    *Software Update Tool*
    *Copyright 2002-2007 Apple*
    ...also apparently forever.
Other than this, I haven't seen any problems with it in one day of use. This obviously seems like a software/configuration problem, not a hardware problem but still... not the best out-of-the-box experience. I am hoping this turns out to be a known issue with a simple fix. But has anybody else seen this issue?
The one thing I did try was moving the Mac to an entirely different network (from home to office). Other Macs here don't have any problem, just this one.
    Clues appreciated.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
    1) I found updating worked as expected if I created a another admin account, and used that to run Software Update. However, Software Update still would hang infinitely if I ran it using my main account (again, a fresh account created by unboxing the Mac and doing the first-use interview wizard thing).
    2) Being curious, I tried removing each file you suggested independently, and trying Software Update (without restarting). None had an effect until I removed the ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
After moving this folder aside, and launching Software Update again, it worked normally (no reboot required).
So that's some data, posted for posterity. I saved the corrupt cache file that seems to have caused the problem, so I'll file a bug report with Apple if I have time.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Adobe Updater doesn't find updates, wrong version, hangs

I have the full CS5. When I first installed, updater found a number of updates, and recently, it notified me of the update to Photoshop, so it was working.
I just ran Updater after installing Acrobat, and it did not find any updates, even though there is an update for Flash Builder, which I ended up downloading manually. Additionally, it has the old interface, and offered to check for "All CS4 applications." Umm, wrong version. Now, the Updater icon sits in my Dock and won't quit.

The Acrobat update mechanism is different from that of CS5 products. Did you try a "Help --> Check for updates" from with any CS5 App ?

  • App Store can't find any updates? No response from server.

When I open iTunes I get a message saying "a new version of iTunes is ready for download". But when I click download/update it takes me to App Store where it can't find any updates. It keeps saying "Didn't get a response from the Software Update server (198.168.1.7)." every time I check for updates. Please help! I know there is a new update for iTunes and I can't update it.
Please if you have any suggestions or ideas or explanations please let me know! I would greatly appreciate it!!!
    Thanks in advance.

The system is configured to download updates from a private server, not from Apple. That server isn't working or isn't reachable. If you're bound to a network directory server, or if you're behind a firewall that doesn't allow downloading updates directly from Apple, your network administrator has to solve the problem. Otherwise, proceed as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder…
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Restart the computer and try Software Update again.

  • Tecra M5 PTM51L: I did not find any updates on Tosh site

My computer has the model number written at basement as; Tecra M5 Model no. PTM51L 0JG010.
I dont find any updates of softwares from the toshiba site. All the updates are for PMM51U-xxxxx and nothing for above mentioned model.
I dont understand this thing. I bought this laptop from my university shop last october.
    thanks for ur help.

    Hi
I wonder where you have searched for the drivers.
The Toshiba European websites provides the drivers for Tecra M5.
There is no additional part number, only Tecra M5
So maybe you will check the drivers from this page
The Toshiba Canadian site provides drivers for the PTM51C series.
It seems this series was designed only for the Canadian market.
I found the Tecra PTM51A series on the Toshiba Australian and New Zeeland website.
But nothing about the PTM51L series.
So try to download the drivers from the European site and install it in the right order!
