HT1338 Can I update my OS x 10.6 to a newer version
Some apps are available for newer verisions can I upgrade? If so, do I have snow Leopard?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and you can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion. As Mountain Lion is the most recent version, upgrade to it. Open the Mac App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your data with Time Machine and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow its steps.
OS X Mavericks will be released in fall. See > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview

HT1338 Can you update from OS X v10.5.8 to newer OS X versions? How?
I have an iMac model 7.1 Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHz, 2 MB memory machine (purchased end 2009). What's the best OS X version to run on this machine and how do I start the upgrade process?
You have to get 10.6.8 first to go even higher to 10.7 or 10.8
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

I'ts been pulled from the online store, so you have to call Apple to buy it. -
I need to update my software in order to download the new version of iTunes in order to put songs on my new iPod. But my software doesn't need updating..or so my computer says. What should I do??
If your iMac has a PowerPC processor, Leopard OS 10.5.x is the max OS. If your iMac has an Intel processor, it can run Snow Leopard OS 10.6.x or possibly higher.
Once we know your iMac model, we can better recommend what OS X version.

i have many paid apps and i own each and every one of them all are under my apple id and all purchased directly from apple store.
the same thing is also happening with the updates for my macbook pro.

i would appriciate any help.

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?
Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

hey guys . . how come I get updates, but can not updates them as they are "not applicable" for the "version" of the pad?, hey guys . . how come I get updates, but can not updates them as they are "not applicable" for the "version" of the pad?
The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ... -

My Computer will not let me open itunes at all. It tells me that the itunes libary can not be read because it was created by a newer version.
If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...
•Apple - Support - iTunes - install & update:

Good luck & happy computing!
ps: i see you resolved this issue. it's magic! -

Library can't be read because it was created by a newer version...after upd
Help please!!! I recently got the usual update available message so I updated the itune version on my computer. SInce then each time I plug my iPod in and try to do anything I get a message that says the file "iTunes Library.it!" can't be read because it was created by a newer version of iTune.... surely if yo update you simply carry over the library???? It seems that I will need to create a library all over again. Has anyone got any ideas. I tried deleting the whole program and reinstalling the original software that came with the iPod. But to no avail. Any help would be great.

i've seen that happen before. (actually, more commonly on itunes 6.0.x versions than 7.0.x versions.)
it can sometimes happen if the upgrade doesn't go through properly. (you can end up with the later version of the library file, but the earlier version of the program files are still in place.)
so let's try the itunes 7 update again. download and save a copy of the itunes 7.0.1.8 installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than on line. switch off antivirus and antivirus applications prior to the install.

How can i upgrade my iPhoto 7.1.5 to a newer version? the download 8.02 will not work as i need 8 and that isn't available on download on the site?
Thanks xYou can upgrade to iPhoto '11 with OS X 10.8.5 by purchasing an iPhoto '11 DVD from Amazon, eBay or other source - or you can upgrade your OS to Mavericks for free if your system meets the requirements and then purchase the upgrade to iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x from the App store - in either case backup first in case of problems

when double click itunes icon it shows " The file itunes library.itl can not be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes" so what can i do?
Unless you have attempted to downgrade to an older version of iTunes this is likely to be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I install an old version of itune since the new version does not sync with my iPhone but the old version I installed did not play rather it says that it can't read a file 'itune library .itl' written by Newer version of itune how do I installed this old version to work
You need to restore the pre-upgrade backup of the library file in the manner shown in Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.
