Can't send gmail.  Checked connection doctor which indicated a spinning wheel trying to connect.  It just keeps spinning.

  • Still can't send Gmail!

This is making me crazy. I have a gmail account and receiving mail on my iphone works great. I have tried every fix listed here and through GMail, but I still can't send mail. I get the error message: "the connection to the outgoing server 'smtp.gmail.cm faile.' Any suggestions????

This happened to me as well... I was able to solve it by going into the settings for my GMail account on the iPhone and setting the configuration as follows (my problem was that I didn't specify the proper password for the smtp server):
    Account: On
    *Account Information:*
Name: John Smith (note: enter your own name)
Address: [email protected] (note: enter your full GMail email address)
    Description: GMail
    *Incoming Mail Server:*
    Host Name: pop.gmail.com
User Name: recent:[email protected] (note: enter "recent:" followed directly by your full GMail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your GMail password)
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):
    Host Name: smtp.gmail.com
User Name: [email protected] (note: enter your full GMail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your GMail password)
    Advanced Settings:
    Incoming Uses SSL: On
    Outgoing Uses SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: When removed from Inbox (or your preferred option)
Hope that helps - it works great for me. Only thing that's weird with GMail is the bug where mail you send from this account always shows up in the iPhone inbox. I think Google is working on a fix, but for now, it works fine for me (I just know to delete the mail that comes into my GMail inbox that was sent by me).
    Good luck!

Hi, so I followed the instructions from Google and got my Gmail set up on my Nokia Nuron. But for some reason, I can *receive* messages but I can't *send* e-mails. A bit annoying.
I checked and double-checked the instructions and my settings and everything seems to be correct.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

  • Mac Book Pro constantly displays spinning wheel of death HELP!!!

My Mac Book Pro (after installing Mavericks) displays the spinning wheel of death multiple times per day. I thought it was my Google Chrome, but now it has been happening no matter what application I am using. I used Etrecheck to see what is going on with my computer, but I don't actually know what the output means. I've copied the information below.
More information: I no longer have a Blackberry, but I don't know how to remove any software that may still be on my computer (since I see Blackberry listed under Kernel Extensions). I also backed up my harddrive on the 28th, just to be safe.
I would greatly appreciate any and all help with this. I'm in the process of trying to study for mulitple teacher certification exams, so this is the worst possible time for tmy computer to suddenly go haywire. Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to help!

    kmiddlet88,
yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

  • Why can't I download OS X Server (Spinning wheel)?

    Morning Gurus,
So I've bought a mac-mini to set up as my companies new server, I'm about to set it up for partitioning so that I have a mirrored drive etc. But, unrelated I'm trying to purchase the OS X Server app from the app store, yet all I'm getting is a spinning wheel once I hit 'Buy'. The mac mini is connected via ethernet to a network switch with and internet seems to be working fine..
    Any suggestions?
    Rich.

Double doh! Sorted it - Mac Mini needed an update to the latest release of Yosemite!  - Thou a message from apple apps store saying this would have saved me a load of headache and coffee drinking!
    But happily sorted!

  • Mac displays spinning wheel and progress bar at startup.

    Ok, here's the story:
My account password wasn't being recognized. Since I couldn't access my desktop, I tried the resetpassword command in terminal (in OS X Utilities through Command + R) but it didn't work. I restarted my Mac and it displayed a progress bar and spinning wheel. When the progress bar finished, the spinning wheel kept spinning and it wouldn't stop. Each time I boot the Mac, it does it again. I tried doing repair disk using disk utility (through OS X Utilities) but it said that it couldn't be be fixed. I even tried resetting the PRAM.
I want to know if it's possible to recover my files through OS X Utilities... i'm really frustrated because it's the second time i've lost my files.

Try to boot up into safe mode, see if that does anything for you.

  • Can't send mail: connection to server timed out

Every time I go out of the USA I have problems with mail. Sometimes they go away by themselves........this one is not. I am in israel; I receive mail but when I send i get the message "connection to server smtp on port 587 timed out........
How can I fix this and also not have problems everytime I am abroad??

I've been having a problem sending and receiving. I'm on a slow shared wi-fi connection. Does speed affect the mail connection? Will it time out if it takes too long to download the messages? And can if so, can I change the "time out" time to a longer duration to allow for the slower speed?

  • How can I send HTML emails that display in Mail?

    Hi,
I have an email newsletter that I recently have begun experimenting with in HTML. The problem is, when I try to use HTML, the message displays properly in things like Yahoo! webmail, but in Mail for OSX, it displays like a regular text message, images and formatting are not used. I'm sending the messages from PHPList. Is there something I need to add to my code to get it to display correctly?
    Thanks much.
    -Jonas

Well, I did check the layout in Safari, and it looked fine. Since I'm not sending the messages from Mail (since it's for a rather large mailing list handled by PHPList), selecting "Mail the Contents of this Page" wouldn't really do very much for me.
If I do try to send the page using that technique, it does work. But I have to use PHPList to compose and mail the message. I just need to know if there's any other code I need to add to make it display in Mail. I can receive other HTML emails no problem, but mine just shows up as text, disregarding images and other elements. I just don't know what's going on here.

  • I can't send gmail anymore from my mail application in MacBookPro

Can anyone help in resolving inability to send out mails in Mail using gmail. Outgoing server shown as disconnected. I have tried many fixes, nothing work. I do not want to erase my this mail box because I do not want to lose all my history and classification of mails

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

  • Can't send gmail in mail app after maverick update

After the update to OS X 10.9.3,  I am able to receive gmail in mail but not send it. I deleted the  accounts few times and reinstalled them and nothing solves the problem. I  went to the genius bar and the person was useless. She told me to  contact google.
My personal gmail account works fine but not my two business gmail accounts. Anyone else having this problem and were you able to find a solution?

Check Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Email Account -> Account -> Advanced
Is your server port set to 993?

  • HT1338 can't send mail MacBook Air since Mt. Lion update?

MacBook Air, cannot send e-mails since upgrade to Mt. Lion?

Ok - this is a weird one. Looks like something zapped my Gmail SMTP account, and defaulted to "none" for SMTP.
Had to completely build my Gmail SMTP settings again.

  • I can't send email in Thunderbird and I have tried all suggested fixes I can find!

I moved Thunderbird from my old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro (I have done this before with no problems).
I updated Thunderbird on both laptops before I did this - to version 31.0
The new machine's running Mavericks 10.9.4
I started to notice intermittent problems with sending email - this seemed to free up when I opened up my BT email account (the account that 'feeds' Thunderbird) and then resent the email in Thunderbird.
This 'fix' has now stopped working and all I continually get when trying to send is the message:
    'Send Message Error
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com failed.
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.' (etc.)
I checked with both Mozilla and BT forums/help pages, then went to Thunderbird>Tools>Account settings>Outgoing Server(SMTP)>Edit
I then changed the settings to those recommended by both BT and Mozilla:
    Server Name: mail.btinternet.com
    Port - 465
    Security - SSL/TLS
    Authentication - normal password
User Name - (my user name)
I also tried many variations (including the original settings)
    Server Name: mail.btinternet.com
    Port - 587
    Security - none
    Authentication - password transmitted insecurely
User Name - (my user name)
I tried deleting my password and then doing the above all again.
I tried turning the router off and back on and doing the above all again.
Nothing - apart from not being able to send email Thunderbird's working fine with incoming, I really think I've tried everything I can. Can I delete my prefs - will this help? Is there anything I've missed? I've wasted 4 hours and it feels like 4 days!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Error message as above and below:
    'Send Message Error
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com failed.
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.' (etc.)
BT won't deal with this - they redirect me to a 'partner' who want to charge to discuss the problem. Nice, eh!
