HT1338 Deleted Mail Application

I have an Imac. I deleted my Mail application and have to go to my MacBook pro to get my emails. How can I add the Mail app to my Imac?

Sorry I haven't replied. I have been traveling. Before I left I tried several things. I will be home tomorrow night and will try some of the suggestions.
Mail was not in the applications folder. I had deleted it. I found my applications disk and installed the mail app. When I tried to open it it said that my current version of 10.6.8 could not open the mail folder.
I will try installing it again and try what Wzzz recommended updating the security settings tomorrow to see its that works. Thanks. Nelson.

What gives you that impression? I suspect that most problems with Mail are actually due to issues in the Mail files within a user's home folder, such as "yourhomefolder"/Library/Mail.
can I delete it completely and re-install the application from the install disk?
That's difficult, but you may be able to do that with the Pacifist utility: http://www.charlessoft.com/

I think I have inadvertantly deleted my Apple mail application(the stamp icon).
Though I have AOL mail but now my iphoto email selections doesnt work nor can I send a page by clicking on the mail.
I did not have a install disc in my pack (purchased 2010) ,so how do I restore my mail application?

Are you sure you have not deleted the Apple Mail icon on the Dock?
Look into Application folder if it is still there.

  • Deleted Mail Application and iCal Application

So I was trying to clean up my workspace and thought that the files I was deleting were merely icons. Turns out they were the real thing. So...How do I get them back? I tried to reinstall the disks that came with my computer, but they didn't come back (just turned Mail and iCal into "?"s on my Dock. I just got my computer a few months ago and this would be really annoying to continue. What do I do?

    You have two options.
    1) You can start up your Mac from the included restore disks and do an "archive and install." This will reinstall the operating system and restore your settings, documents and applications.
    2) You can use an application called Pacifist to extract the iCal and Mail applications from the install DVDs. This takes a bit of technical knowledge, but you can read about the process here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/Pacifist_Documentation/English/index.html
For future reference, don't delete things in the Applications folder unless you want to uninstall the application. As I'm sure you've learned!

  • Deleted Mail Application

    Hi,
My mom deleted my entire mail application from my macbook pro v. 10.6.8. How can I get it back? Do I need to use pacifist? Is there any easier way to get the mac mail application back other than using pacifist? It is not in the trash or anywhere on the computer from what I can see.
    Thanks

You're right it is MY problem. A problem that I would prefer not having your input or help with. That goes for any further of my questions. I will continue to come to this forum (as I have for years) because there are others who have and continue to provide VALUABLE assistance without feeling the need to disparage others in the process. Whether or not you feel the need to voice your opinions in any of my posts again is up to you, but for the record I am not asking, do not want, nor need your type of "help" anymore. There are plenty of other talented users who are happy to help me without resorting to petty comments as yours above. Any further posts by you is of your own accord and not something that I desire to read or want to interact with.
I'm sure others will find your comments helpful but please don't feel the need to "help" me anymore.
As for Allan's comment. I'm glad you are supporting your friend, but in my opinion his response to my mother's use of my computer was irrelevant to my actual question and was a snide remark from my perspective. It was unecessary to phrase it in such a way.
    Cheers.

  • Deleted Mail application, How do I reinstall it?

I have accidentally removed the Mail App from my computer, and I want to reinstall it, but I have lost my original OS install disk. Any ideas?

I don't remember if I said this already, but if the Mac came with Leopard, just call Apple and give them the serial no. They may be in the process of changing this policy, but they were always willing to send discs for a modest fee.
If not, Apple doesn't sell them any longer and full retail Leopard DVDs are insanely expensive, at least the last time I looked, which wasn't all that recently. Apple's price, when they were available, was $129, but look around on eBay or Amazon and they are asking much more than that. Warning: you may find less expensive DVDs on eBay, but many of those will be grey, machine specific discs that will only work on the Mac they came with. You want the full retail DVD.

  • HT1338 my mail application keeps downloading 1000s of incoming emails

My apple mail client seems to be always in a downloading incoming mail state, even though there are very few (if any) new mail. Sometimes it starts indicating it is downloading 3000 or so emails. This is everyday.
I took it to the apple shop and he wiped everythign off and started again.
    But still this issue continues

Will I lose my emails I have on there? I have numerous client email files and can't afford to lose any of them. I do have everything backed up but I'm fearful of losing important client info. What if something happened during the back up and it doesn't have my files?

  • "Command-i" which was so useful in being able to selectively delete messages from the servers no longer works. Is their a replacement? Will it be fixed? Or should I change my mail application?

"Command-i" which was so useful for selectively deleting messages from servers has disappeared in  Maverick. I wonder if it has been replaced by something else or should I look into other mail applications.

Hmmm.  Which Mail program are you referring to?
in Mac Mail command -i used to bring up the Account info pane on the server  (10.8.5)
Now it seems you have to use the gear at the bottom in "Mail Activity" to get the drop down (10.9) :

How to Use Pacifist to Replace Deleted OS X Applications
Insert the OS X Installer DVD into the optical drive. Use a simple utility like TinkerTool to toggle invisibility so you can see invisible items. Alternatively, open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter the following:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
    Press RETURN.
To turn off the display of invisible files repeat the above command substituting No for Yes.
The install packages are located in the /System/Installation/ folder on the DVD.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist from VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Use it to extract a fresh copy of the missing item(s) from the file archives on your OS X installation DVD. The file archives are in the /System/Installations/ folder (use Go to Folder option in the Go menu of the Finder.)
Here are Four Basic ways to use Pacifist (courtesy of George Orville.)
    A. Drag a .pkg icon onto the Pacifist window .....proceed to step 7.

    • Click on the "Go" button .....
    • Drag a .pkg to Pacifist..... proceed to step 7.
The package you'll need will have to be discovered by trial and error, but for most applications you should start with the Essentials.pkg and/or Additional Essentials.pkg.
    D. Insert your Mac OS X install disk 1 .... and open Pacifist.
    1. In Pacifist, select "Open Mac OS X Install Packages" ... dialog may appear asking for disk 2, then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again.... {if DVD is not used)...If “Stop Loading” is selected...the procedure will stop!!!
2a. When loading is complete, a new window appears, click the triangle to display contents of each package...Select item and proceed to step 7.
2b. or click the “Find” icon in the Pacifist window and type the name of the software you need.
    3. In the list that comes back, click the top most entry for the item that you want. ..... that is the one for the English language.
    4. On the top of the Pacifist window, click “verify” .... you will probably be prompted for your password.
    5. Enter checks for.... “verify permissions” and “verify file contents.” and click “verify” ....enter password when prompted.... you will get back output which may look like this:

20 of 20 files were present on the hard disk.
0 of 20 files had file permissions that did not match those specified in the package.
0 of 20 files had checksums that did not match those specified in the package.

    Notes.....
    • Pacifist may find that a file it is installing already exists on the hard disk. Pacifist will present you with an alert panel....
    Stop
    Leave original alone
    Update ..... Default selection
Replace .... Replace option should only be used on full install packages

  • I deleted my mail application

I think I may have deleted my mail application. It would be nice if someone could help me. PLEAZ!?!?

    First welcome to the discussions.
    You can go to.
    http://www.mozzila.com
Find Thunderbird, it is the mail Application.
If you don't want to do that you can use Pacifist and use it to download just the mail Application from your Original Operating Systems Disc, if you prefer.
There are several different Mail Applications for Mac that are good.
    Cheers Don

  • I accidentally deleted the applications: Mail, Safari

I accidentally deleted the applications: Mail, Safari & iTunes from the launchpad. I also emptied the trash by accident.
Is there a way to reinstall these applications without reinstalling the Mac OS X?
Will upgrading to Mountain Lion resolive my problem?
    What is the best solution?
    Thank You,
    Mrs_Yu

If Spotlight is unable to locate your apps, use the install disc that came with your computer to custom install.  On screen directions will guide you.  Once this is done, use Software Update to update Safari, iTunes and Mail if necessary.

  • Deleted the mail application

I have accidently deleted my mail application, and cleared the trash. I've tried the Software install/restore disc that came with my Mac but to no avail... any suggestions?!

    You're welcome.
If your OS detail is accurate - 10.3.9 and your Panther install discs include an earlier version, after re-installing the Mail.app using Pacifist you need to download the 10.3.9 Combo Update and re-install 10.3.9 to get the Mail.app to the current version as of 10.3.9.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
Why would you now have an old version of iTunes if you installed the Mail.app only from your Panther install package using Pacifist?
    Did you re-install iTunes also?
Not sure what you mean by "it will not let me download Itunes latest version".
    More info please.
