HT1338 FCP Studio convert MXF Files (Canon C300)

Anyone have a suggested method for converting MXF files shot with a Canon C300 for use with FCP Studio 7.
Thanks!

You can convert the Canon C300 mxf footage to the other common format, like MOV, ProRes MOV as that format is easy to import and edit on Final Cut Pro 7. For convert the Canon C300 MXF to ProRes mov, have two software for your choice:
1. Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro : http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=
2. A Converter : Google ....
But use Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro seems that some frames were dropped when transcoded to ProRes 422. So the best way is convert Canon XF300 MXF to ProRes 422 MOV by a mxf converter. ( You can download try this : converter )

  • Convert .MXF file into .mov?

Im looking to bring a .mxf file into FCP. How do I convert it into a .mov file so I can import it into FCP?
    Thank you!

Does it say 004GHZ.mxf or something similar? Or HG4783IKSJHD9882094048DLJSH.mxf...REALLY long string of letters and numbers?
The short one is a P2 file, the long one is an Avid file. Depending on where it comes from is how you deal with it. But really, you might have to look into Raylight, or Calibrated or MXF4QT...third party MXF solutions that allow FCP to open MXF files.

    Hello
It's not possible for me, to import mxf-files into FCP.
I haven't yoused FCP for a couple of days, but today I could not import files from my Canon XF100, so i think the problems came with Mavericks??
Does any of you have same problems?
    What to do?
    Kind regards

    Hi Russ -
I downloaded the utility and driver from here:
    http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120223_xf_utilities_and_pl ugin_updates.shtml
But after looking around realized it isn't updated for Mavericks yet. I was only given two files and both weren't in any sort of directory structure- here is a screenshot.

  • Convert MXF files to MOV files, NO LASTCLIP.TXT in FCP 5.1.4

Hello everyone. I am new to the forums. I have a project I have been asked to edit where the files came off of a P2 Card from a Panasonic HVX2000. The problem is, they didn't copy the LASTCLIP.TXT files off of the P2 Card. So I just have the files themselves. Is there a way to convert the files to .MOV files? I do know about the Log & Transfer, but you need the LASTCLIP.TXT for that. Thanks!!

#38-P2 - Missing LASTCLIP.txt file. How to rebuild.
Shane's Stock Answer #38 - When you offloaded the P2 cards, you forgot to get the LASTCLIP.tct file? No worries, not all is lost.
    MISSING LASTCLIP.TXT FILE:
    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58755
If you neglected to copy the "lastclip.txt" file all is not lost. Much like the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him.
Lastclip.txt can be generated by any text editor. If you are using a mac then open up textedit.
Create a new txt file. It will have 3 lines to it.
The first line is the name of the last clip that was recorded.
Back to the finder. Open up your CONTENTS folder. In there, open up your VIDEO folder. Organize the folder by Date Last Modified. Find the name of the last file in this folder. If you have 16 clips in the folder is will be 0016ag.mxf or something like that. Four numbers and two letters followed by .mxf.
Take this name and place in the first line of your text file. On the next line of the text file type in "1.0" (don't include the quotes).
The third line is the number of clips in the folder +1. If you have 16 clips then the third line should read "17" (again no quotes).
I'm not 100% sure if the number on the third line is the number of clips left in the folder (after any on-set deletions) or if it is the total number of clips generated during this session with the card. Try both. Remember to add 1 to that number.
Your txt file should like something like this:
    0016ab.mxf
    1.0
    17
That's it. You should be good to go. Put your CONTENTS folders in separate folders with separate LASTCLIP.txt folders and import them as separate P2 cards.
The annoying thing is that all of the various .mxf files in these 6 folders are locked items and they must all be unlocked manually to erase them.
It's much easier to import direct into FCP 5.0.4 or higher. It does so without leaving all of these locked files on your computer.

  • Converting MXF files to Apple ProRes 422 HQ generates no audio, video only. Why?

    Hi,
Does anyone here have experience with Aunsoft TransMXF for Mac or Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac?
I was using Aunsoft TransMXF for Mac to convert my Cannon C300 MXF files to the Apple ProRes 422 HQ(*.mov) format so that I can import and edit my video footages without rendering in Final Cut Pro X.
However, the converted MOV file from Aunsoft TransMXF for Mac included no sound, only video (which was in excellent quality though).
I have played the generated Apple ProRes MOV file in both QuickTime and FCPX, no audio at all.
But the original MXF files just previewed fine with audio in the camera itself.
I am not sure if there's anything wrong with my MXF files or with the Aunsoft TransMXF for Mac program.
    Any suggestion here is appreciated!

    Just got the solution.
I contacted the customer service at Aunsoft and they offered me the workaround. Here shares the information so that people with similar issue could have a reference.
    From Aunsoft:
Why Canon C300/XF100/XF300 MXF files converted with no sound?
If your MXF files from Canon C300/XF100/XF300, etc are converted with no sound, or your MXF files previewed in Aunsoft program with only video, please do not worry. It is because Canon MXF contains two audio tracks, one with sound but the other with no sound. Aunsoft TransMXF or Video Converter happens to pick the track without sound by default. This is the reason why the converted output will has no sound but only video.
No worries, here’s the solution for this issue:
On the main interface of your Aunsoft program, click the "Show selected task properties" button on top of the Format box and then select in the Audio Stream ID box a different audio track.
Then, you can play Canon C300/XF100/XF300 MXF files in the preview window with both audio and video.Meanwhile, the files converted will also be with sound.

  • Log and Transfer for MXF files (Canon 300XF) suddenly doesn't work

I've searched for a solution and I've pulled out a few hairs...
    We have 2 identical FCP7 MacPro workstations (2x2.66 dual-core Xeon, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT, 256MB VRAM, OSX 10.6.8).
Both systems have successfully ingested MXF files captured by a Canon 300XF using Canon's XF plugin for FCP.
    Until today.
One system doesn't ingest the footage anymore.  One still does.
The faulty system sees the footage in Log and Transfer, but as we add the footage to the queue, the red exclaimation point pops up.  Hovering over the alert gives us: ERROR: UNKNOWN.
Nothing has changed in either system.
    Any ideas?  Gremlins maybe?
    Thanks!

...and a Canon XF Utility software uninstall/reinstall solved it.
    Oops.
Should have tried that before the 17 other things we tried.

  • Issue with importing MXF files - Canon

The issue is, when importing MXF files from a Canon camera, we experience "spanned" files. This has been occuring now for sometime. Why has Adobe not fixed this. Surely there is a large community using Canon MXF files? Can someone from Adobe or Canon reply to this message. If anyone else has a fix or a workaround other than mannually addressing this, please advise.

    I'm afraid I don't understand the question.
7.2 now correctly parses the Canon XF .CIF sidecar files to determine whether the media is supposed to be spanned or not.  This has been a feature request that has been finally addressed to work correctly.
(It also was there in 7.1 & previous, but had limitations:  the performance wasn't as good, there had been issues in the past with audio pops at cut points, and it required that the Canon XF folder structure remain intact, ie if you copied the media to a flattened folder structure, it would fail to do the spanning correctly.)
If you are looking for a means to disable the automatic spanning, simply removing the .CIF files will achieve that.  Although i'm not sure I understand why you're looking to do that.  Most people *want* spanning to happen automatically, otherwise you're forced to manually sync spanned media segments by hand.

  • FCP X Import MXF files?

Is possible to import, in FCP X, MXF files?

    MDSE
I have an XF100 which is almost the same as yours.
If youy download from the CF card via a card reader, you use the USB port.
If you download directly from the camera, you use a Firewire cable and connect to the FW800  port on your computer. The cable is not supplied with the camera. The output terminal is at the back of your camera, as you will see in your Instructions Manual.

Many thanks for your reply Harm.
Would you have any ideas for what preset settings I would export with?  And which codec?  There is an HD preset which compresses it with H.264.  I'm trying to get the highest quality possible and h.264 compresses it.

  • Glitches on .mxf files - Canon XF300

We shoot on a Canon XF300 and recently I opened up a project and realized that all the footage on one card is filled with horizontal "glitches" that pop randomly throughout the screen. It seems to be on the actual footage because it exists even when viewing through the Canon XF Utility and opening in multiple programs. Unfortunately the CF card was formatted long ago for this project and the glitches went unnoticed after dumping the card and backing it up. I only just noticed as I sat down to start editing. It seems to get worse as I move through the files on that same card. The second card used that day has no glitches. Has anyone encountered this before and have a fix? I feel like the problem is on the actual  footage. Maybe the card was corrupt?

  • Convert .MXF Video files to work with Mac Editing software?

    Hello,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Trying to find software that will edit .MXF Video Files to work with Mac.
As the edit is simple, prefer iMovie, but happy if the Conversion software only works with FCExpress (or even FCPro if that is the only alternative).
    1. If it matters, .MXF (Material Exchange Format) Video files came from shooting on a Panasonic 500 P2. Originally downloaded onto a Windows system, using Adobe Premiere.
    2. I just want to see and convert some of the shots I did for my Reel, etc., but I have a Mac.
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
    4. When I attach an External HD with backup files of all the footage shot, they show up named as .MXF files. They appear as VLC files (VLC icon), but the suffix is .MXF.
    5. When I try to play them as VLC files, they won't play. It seems they start to play, but then the VLC software quits.
    6. So I have tried downloading some software on the Internet that Google says converts .MXF files.
I tried: iSkysoft Video Converter, AVCWare Mac Video Converter, MPEG Streamclip, and a couple others. They all seem to have basically the same conversion setups, but when I click to pick one .MXF file, none of them recognize it. (The file in my Browse window is greyed out).
    7. MoyaVideo Converter for Mac recognizes the .MXF file, but when I hit the "conversion" button - I tried a couple different settings, all it seems to convert is the first frame. Even if the .MXF file says a clip is 123MB or 43 seconds long, etc.
    8. I can't even watch the clip in Preview. Press Play and it is just the first frame.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks for your response.
If this codec can only be read by Final Cut Pro, why do all these companies claim their software can convert .MXF files?

If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a

Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
