HT1338 get this response when trying to check for updates  The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)

The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576
Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available.

Post subject: NSURLErrorDomain error -1100 in OS X 10.8
If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile

I was recently trying to upgrade to mountain lion through the app store.  I have unreliable Internet from a cable company whom I will not name, but we all know who they are.  My Internet dropped while downloading the upgrade.  Once I went through the notorious unplug the modem/router and plugged it back in to gain Internet connectivity again, I could not resume. No matter what I did, the app store kept displaying "an error occurred." I am hoping that those with the same issue read this first to save them hours of skimming through the Internet to find a solution.  Here are the steps to take:
    1. Make sure you have reestablished Internet connection
    2. Chances are you got frustrated when you tried to resume/unpause the download and clicked the "X" to the left.  If so, select the "Store" drop-down menu from the App Store and select "View My Account." There should be an option to unhide your purchase.  You know what to do.
    3. There is also an option to  reset all warnings for buying and downloading under "View My Account." Do this, click "Done," sign out of the App Store and quit the App Store.
    4. Open the Preferences in safari and select Privacy.  Select "Remove All Website Data."  Just do it.
    5. Launch the app store and sign in.
    6. Now, if you "Check for Unfinished Downloads" everything works peachy.
I hope this helps.  Not much I can do for your Internet connection though.

    What should I do?
This is when trying to use the latest software update on my 10.8.2 Lion.
I want to update the latest Safari 6.0.2 and iPhoto 9.4.2 only......NOT Java.

Same error here.  The Safari 6.0.2 update is not in Apple's download section.  The notification may have gone out before the update was put on their servers, thus causing the download error.

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Getting an error when trying to check for update for my iPad

On the iPad itself, there is no option such as 'update' in the general tab under settings. So I connected the iPad to my computer and on iTunes, whenever I click for 'Check for Update' I get an error message that says:
The iPad software update server could not be contacted
Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later
My network is absolutely fine and I have been trying since almost 2 days now.

If you would like help from these user forums then saying what the error message was would be useful.

  • "server unavailable" when trying to check for updates

As I said in another post, my email was working better since three dl09 update was pushed out. But I now have the gps (no lock for 20+ minutes minimum) and didn't have this problem previously.
I would like to try the ea28 update, but SINCE dl09 (not prior) checking updates gets "please wait"and then finally "server unavailable."
SPent more than an hour on the phone with tech support (hard reboot, reactivate...) and they ended up telling me to go to the official verizon store where they can update the phone via internet and usb cable. Well, took off of work, went out of my way to get to store. They were useless. Never heard of such issues and, no, they can't update thru usb, they don't have access to the updates.
Also, my email isn't as good as it was...after DL09 it would POP on its own. After reactivating, it again won't POP automatically, but will download msgs if I hit Load More Msgs (which is better than before DL09).
I really don't want to reset my phone and lose data from all my apps.
Any solutions to the update problem? The store told me these build updates come from google directly...???
