HT1338 how do i reduce pixels in iphoto

Wanting to make a photo into a avatar but size is to big how do i reduce photo?

I'm looking at the Mavericks version of Preview at the moment, so can't check to see if the Snow Leopard version has the same option. But if it does, go to the menu bar and choose Tools > Adjust Size. You'll get a resizing box like this:
Make sure Resample image is on. Otherwise, when you change the size or resolution, the number of pixels in the file will stay right where they are. Resampling must be on to actually reduce the physical number of pixels.

  • How would I reduce pixels?

    I am trying to reduce a JPG photo from 3008 x 2000 to 1600 x 1200. I need to e-mail this shot to a local magazine I'm working for.
I have consulted the "Help" feature and been through the menu several times and cannot find an answer. I tried "Export," but when I put in one number, the other one would change.
I hope someone can help me! Thanks!

Thanks Larry! This seems to have worked. At first, the 16 x 12 crop looked like it would cut off the top of someone's head. Once I did the export, everything was intact when it came up in Preview. I hope it will be the same when I send it off for publication.
If you know of any Iphoto or other tutorials on adjusting pictures according to pixels or dpis, please post them here. Thank you again!

  • HT1338 How do I delete videos from iPhoto?  Dragging photo to trash or pushing delete does not work.

I've transferred all my photos and videos from Iphoto to an external drive and would now like to delete them from my Macbook pro.  I've highlighted the videos and photos and press delete and nothing happens.  Drag it to the trash bin and the trash bin will not accept the phot/video.  Also, pressing the carrot at the bottom of the photo brings up a menu that includes trash, but the trash icon is not highlighted and is not available.  How do I delete these from my mac hard drive in order to free up space?  Btw, brand new macbook with updated software running 10.8.3.

I found the answer to my own question.  For anyone else having these issues:  push control and option keys anf then delete all 3 together and photos and videos will be delted.

  • HT1338 how do i add iCloud to iPhoto?

I have  MacBook Pro, with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5.  We just purchased and connected an AppleTV.  I can connect to ITunes just fine, but I can't access any of my photos.  In iPhoto, under Sharing, it doesn't give me an iCloud or AppleTV option.  How do I add that to my iPhotos 11?

Its labled as "photo stream" This is a device that if you take a pictrue with a device IOS 5 or later, it will appear on all iCloud devices. Hope this works for you.

  • How do I increase pixels?

How do I increase pixels in iPhoto?

you can not "increase" pixels in any way (PhotoShop will add pixels by interpolating new pixels between the existing ones but it does not increase photo quality) - you need to start with the pixels you need - everything you do after the initial photo is created will at best leave them alone and generally will reduce them and reduce quality

What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

  • HT1229 How do I reduce the size of photo in iPhoto?  The size of my imported photos are 2 - 3 MB and for my purpose I need 200 - 400 KB.  Any suggestions appreciated.

How do I reduce the size of photo in iPhoto?  The size of my imported photos from my camera are 2 - 3 MB and for my purpose I need 200 - 400 KB.   Scanned copies of older photographs with a size of 100 to 500 KB work very well.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

File -> Export and make your choices in the Export dialogue.
Jpeg Quality and Size will have most effect on file size. Note that 'Size' refers to the pixel dimensions of the photo.

You could also export the image and use your Preview application to change pixel dimensions.
    Open the image in Preview.

Type in the dimensions you want.

  • How do I reduce the number of pages in an iPhoto book from 100 to 50

How do I reduce the number of pages in an iPhoto book from 100 to 50.  I have selected 153 photos to be put in the book and iPhoto automatically designated the book to be 100 pages in length.

If the auto place put photos on all 100 pages you'll need to reset the layout on the first 50 pages so all photos will fit in just those 50 pages.  Then add the photos to the first 50 pages and delete the last 50 according to the link Larry provided.

  • How can I reduce the size of IPhoto ?

I have tested IPhoto with a few hundred pictures.
I do not find this software very user-friendly, in particular because I can no longer locate the files of these pictures. I kept fortunately a copy of my complete set of my photo collection.
I removed all pictures from IPhoto, but the application shows a size of 600 Mb.
How can I reduce the size of IPhoto and recover this storage space?

    patrick
in particular because I can no longer locate the files of these pictures.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

  • How to reduce videos in iPhoto from iPhone for mailing or uploading

How do you reduce videos from an iPhone 4s for e-mailing or uploading to sites like Flickr? iPhoto gives you a choice of photo sizes to e-mail but doesn't allow you to e-mail videos. The videos are on my iPhone and my iMac.

You can export (or drag) the videos out of the iPhoto interface and drop them onto your Desktop (which will copy them from the iPhoto Library onto the Desktop).
You can then double-click the new video file on the Desktop to open it with Quicktime (hopefully this is your default video-playing app). Within Quicktime, click on Quicktime in the menubar and use the Export feature to create a smaller version of your video file. That smaller version of your file will be better compressed for internet uploading.
If you have Quicktime X, then you will also have a Share menu in the Menubar with some built-in sharing options such as YouTube that can be more convenient.

  • How to reduce size of iPhoto library

My iPhoto library is growing out of proportion to it's content. The iPhoto library file is now 27GB. When I go in and do a show package content I see the following folder sizes:
    Data 649MB
    iPod Photo Cache 15.79GB
    Modified 267MB
    Originals 7.1GB
    Do you see this!
The iPod Photo Cache is TWO times the size of the Originals. How can that be????
Why would this be larger anyway. I thought pictures are getting scaled down to fit on the iPod.
Has anybody any idea how I can reduce the size of this iPod Cache?

The iPod Photo Cache is TWO times the size of the Originals. How can that be????
    because something has gone wrong
Normally, I would advise against changing things in the iPhoto Library Folder but make a back up - just in case - and you can safely trash that iPod Photo Cache. The worst that will happen is that iPhoto will create a new one next time you sync. When it does, compare the size with this one.
