HT1338 How do I update to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8 so I can install the new iTunes?
I'm trying to use my new iPod but it requires a newer version of iTunes. I downloaded the newer version but it now needs a newer version of the OS. My update tells me it is up to date. Do I have to buy the 10.6 version??
First, check that your machine is suitable for Snow Leopard. It needs to be a Mac computer with an Intel processor.Double check by reading the specs.

Before you start upgrading, back up your files.
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, if your upgrade took you to 10.6.3 you will need to apply the Combo updater. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 and follow with a software update to pick up the most recent security updates.
To upgrade past Snow Leopard. For Mountain Lion, the minimum specs are as follows ... technical specification

Hey so i have a version of a mac i think it is kinda old, it is the all white one i got it like 4 years ago maybe. I got a new ipod recently and i cannot downloade any music onto it. this is because i tried to download the new itunes which it said i needed and now when i try to install it. But there is also some problem.totally agree. at this point i could care less if "apple" supports it. i'm not renting my ipod touch, it's mine. i paid for it. and i'm not asking to do anything illegal with it, all i want is to get rid of this POS ios6 and get back to being able to use my ipod touch the way it was before...working.

Can someone please help me! I installed the new itunes software onto my computer it shut down then when i tried to log back into my computer all of my documents and everything was gone! the only thing remaining was my recycle bin. but my documents etc are gone!
I tried to uninstall the software but it still hasnt made a difference! Has anyone had the same issue and if so how do I fix it? I need all my documents back!!Installing an iTunes update does not remove your media or personal files.
Are the files actually missing off the computer, if so, you have a serious computer issue... not a software update issue.
Regardless, use the backup of your media and other important files to put everything back. You do have a backup, correct? -

Open iTunes on your computer. It should prompt you with the info that there is a new operating system available. The safest way to go, is to download only. Then when you are ready to let your phone sit for a while, choose to update it.

I just downloaded and installed the new iTunes on a Toshiba Satelite of some age. It was just completely reformated and updated with XP. iTunes will not open. The terms page comes up and when I agree it disappears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

Trying to install the new itunes update and it keeps saying error could not install itunes. Currently I am running windows 7. Any advise to fix this problem. This is doing this when installing itunes/quicktime, safari 5, mobileme control panel, and the software update itself. The itunes version is 10.3.1
That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer? -
When installing the new iTunes software, the message : "the older version of apple software update cannot be removed." What should I do? I tried deleting files related through control panel or the manual way, but it doesn't work. Am I missing something?
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

You will need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard to get a Compatible version of iTunes to Sync your Device.
Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
