HT1338 how to format my hard disk

how to format my hard disk ....my mac book came with no cds

You do this either with a Mountain Lion install disc or drive, which you have to make yourself, or from the Recovery System. For the Recovery System, you reboot while holding down command-R. This boots from a (hidden) recovery partition that is on your hard drive; then you access Disk Utility and do your formatting that way. The Recovery system can do a new install of Mountain Lion from the internet from apple once you have reformatted your drive. Or you can make a ML installer disk from the installer files that you download for future reference.
Here's a page about Recovery mode: OS X: About OS X Recovery
and here's how to make your own ML installer disk: How to Burn OS X Mountain Lion to a DVD or USB Flash Drive..
BTW, you could have figured out all this yourself with a google search.

  • HT1349 How to format my hard disk and restart

THis aftrnoon my system wouldn't start. a black screen with OS X utility. Now I want to format my hard disk and install  OS. X

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

For backing up bookmarks, see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
If you want to back up passwords, you need to use an extension such as Password Exporter. This is located at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/ .

  • How to upgrade the hard disk of the nomad jukebox

I read the FAQ of nomad on nomadness.net, I wanna know how to upgrade the hard disk of old nomad jukebox with a bigger one?
I also read a artical on tom's hardware about this,
    http://www7.tomshardware.com/mobile/20000/mp3-3.html
    but he gave a link
    http://www.kuren.org/jukebox
that is not available. He mentioned that it need to clone the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk to the new one, but I have not the old hard disk( I bought a second hand nomad jukebox without the original hard disk). How should I do?
Does someone have the image file of the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk?
    Thank you!

That was the old method before Creative published their Bootcode Flasher software.
    Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php...ticle&artid=24
All files mentioned are available somewhere on Nomadness. Also check out the sticky thread in their JB section of the forum as it lists what hard dri'ves will work in a JB and which ones won't. I hope you haven't already bought your upgrade hard dri've.
I used the above method without any problems and now have a 20GB JB.

  • I am planing to format my hard disk on my PC.

I am planing to format my hard disk on my PC . I would like to know the needed preparation to sync my ipod again without losing my saved data.

if you were on a Mac, you'd use a cloning software to make a complete backup of your boot drive to an external, format the internal drive, then clone the clone back to it.
that would ensure everything will be there and your iPod would not note the difference as it is syncing with the same old library.
on a winsloth machine, you could use something like Casper to achieve the same.

  • NTFS formatted external hard disks?

does mountain lion supports writing on NTFS formatted external hard disks?

I'm getting immense slow-downs using Tuxera NTFS (latest release as of August 2012).  I moved my home folder to an NTFS shared drive.  Reading/writing to the cache while browsing in Safari is slow.  Takes about 30 seconds for Finder to open my NTFS drive, takes about 1 minute to open an app and close the app.  If I disable Tuxera NTFS and make my drive read-only, everything goes back to snappy performance (except for write-errors, since disabling Tuxera means I can't write to my home folder).
What shocks me the most is that if you visit the Tuxera community forum on their corporate website, none of their support representatives have helped their customers since the release of Tuxera NTFS for OS X Mountain Lion.  It's as if the company realized they messed up, so they went silent.
I'm about to try the latest version of Paragon.  I had it for OS X Lion, but it corrupted my entire drive after 2 months of use, which is why I tried to give Tuxera a shot.  Here's to hoping Paragon has fixed their issues.

  • HT5628 Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

You can, but it's not recommended. If you are going to use Windows all the time, at least give some GBs to OS X, because you will need it to install firmware updates.
Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition. You can find it in /Applications/Utilities. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You must use a 64-bit version, and note that not all Mac minis support Windows 8. Check if yours is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to download the Windows support software onto a USB drive. You will need to install it in Windows, so it's very important to download it. If not, you will have problems in Windows.
If your Mac doesn't support Windows 8, install the Windows version the site gives you

  • How to increase RAM & Hard Disk a form at run time can use?

Question: How to increase RAM & Hard Disk a form at run time can use?
    Explanation:
I have a problem with a form at run-time. I guess this is due to shortage of RAM/Hard Disk. I want to increase these things so that the form can use more RAM/Hard Disk and it does not crash/cancel. The reason is that when I change/toggle TOOL --> Preferences --> Runtime, Buffer Records and Array Processing parameters, the problem is rectifies intermittantly. That is there is no fix combination of above-mentioned parameters to rectify the problem. After lot of attempts, it gets resolved but only temporarily. Next time I have to modify the form, I get the same problem.
    Please help.

I am still waiting for an answer to the above question.
May be Oracle Corp. or anyabody, please guide.

  • Reinstall but deleting the previous system without formatting the hard disk

HI there, I was wondering if there's a way to reinstall Snow Leopard with the option that Tiger had: install and rename the old system folder and keep existing users. I'm having some issues with my iMac and and don't want to format the hard disk because I don't want to lose some applications and I don't have an external hard disk to make a back up. I tried reinstalling but it seems that it doesn't fix the issues.
    Thanks for your help
    PERCY

I agree with Allan. However, you should know that with Snow Leopard, a reinstall, not an erase and install, will, by default, give you new system files while retaining everything else. There is no Previous System folder.
I see you already tried that.  What issues aren't being fixed?

  • How format the hard disk in single-user mode

Hi all, i would like to format the internal hard disk of my macbook pro 13'' through single-user mode. How can I do it, please?

Ok, to do that you need to hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk and second screen in under the Utilities Menu is Disk Utility.
You can then select the hard drive makers name (your "bare metal") and peform the wipe/format of the entire drive or a "partition" on that drive.
In the picture below there is only one partition, the Mac HD. In the picture above there are two partitions which both would show up under the hard drive makers name and both or either partition can be wiped in Disk Utility.
Use the Security Option to Zero your hard drive of all lingering data.
When you Quit Disk utiltiy, your back in the installer and can quit or install OS X.
Note: messing with Disk utility will erase all data on the drive, if there is something you need to recover better stop and ask!
If you don't see your internal boot drive in Disk Utility, the drive is dead.

  • Format my hard disk.Unfortunately I have lost Aperture cover and bill from Apple. How to find serial no. of Aperture ?

fI have Aperture cd from Apple Store.Due to some reason I have toformat my hard disk.Unfortunately I have lost Aperture cover and bill from Apple. How to find serial no. of Aperture ?

Is it installed on an other system? If so you can see the serial number in the About Aperture window.
If not ant you wiped your disk and Aperture is no longer installed there is no way to find the serial number apart from the hard copy you had when you bought it.
See Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers and give Apple a call. They are pretty good at working with you to try and recover the serial number.

  • How to format new hard drive for Apple TV when you can't use old HD

I need to know how to format a new HD to install in my Apple TV where I can't use the old HD to clone or otherwise create the new structure on the new HD.
I have an Apple TV that was syncing to a Mac Mini that had a defective HD and logic board. I was unable to backup the Apple TV to the Mac Mini for some time before I had the mini repaired by AppleCare.
When the mini came back, it registered on the Apple TV as a new computer and I couldn't sync with it without losing hundreds of dollars of content.
All was okay until the other night when Apple's defective update for the ATV erased ALL my content. I updated it to 3.1 this morning, which Apple indicated might fix the problem. It didn't. The old content is all gone.
My ATV is out of warranty, so I removed the old HD and copied the files from the "Purchased" folder to my mini. That saved most 101 items that I purchased since 12/08 (but not all for some reason). I lost all content prior to 12/08 that I purchased, as well as some content since 12/08 that I purchased.
I need to keep the old HD untouched until I can purchase data recovery software. I'd like to just put a spare IDE HD in that I have into the ATV and just start over with what is in my Mac mini iTunes.
So, how does one do that? I'm not gifted with vast Unix knowledge or experience and I don't want to clone the old HD and risk losing more data if it writes to the HD for some reason.
    Thanks.

    Hi Atagahi,
Firstly, have you emailed Apple iTunes support indicating your issue? There have been instances in which Apple will allow re-downloading of all content you've purchased on the iTunes store.
Secondly, I highly recommend you get an external usb hard drive, attach it to your mini and use it as a Time Machine drive to keep your iTunes purchases safe. It's a fact of life that all hard disk drives will eventually fail. The Apple TV should never be used as any kind of permanent storage space; think of it as a 'temporary holding' zone. And as you've unfortunately already experienced, a glitch wiped out all content on the Apple TV.
As regards your original question, it seems like there have been folks who've done just that...taken the internal drive in the Apple TV out and attached it to a mac and copied files from the Apple TV hard drive. I have not had to do such, so I cannot offer any help here except for Linda's suggestion on googling the net for solutions.
Good luck and hope you get all your purchased content back Atagahi!

  • Formatting the Hard Disk with recovery DVD's

I'm having a L505 S5996 laptop and it takes a longer time to boot. So I thought to format the HD and install a fresh copy of windows and other drivers from my recovery dvds. There is only one HD partition in my laptop but when I open the disk management window it shows three HD partitions. These two hidden partitions are named as "Recovery Partitions". So I want to know the formatting of HD will result in erasing all these hard disk partitions(including the hidden partitions) in my laptop. If so please tell me the correct way of formatting the HD without loosing pre-installed image of Windows.

if you want to return it back to factory. as in exactly how it was when you opened the box and turned it on. you can select recovery to factory out of box when you either run the recovery media or hold zero during boot and use the recovery partitions.
