HT1338 How to I upgrade to iTunes 10.7 in OS 10.5.8?

I need iTunes 10.7 or otherwise I have a redundant new iPhone 5!
So how do I get through the various OS upgrades, so that I can get iTunes 10.7?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

Am i on the right path or do i need to upgrade my software which is OS X version 10.5.8?
    Any help is appeciated.

All these programs levels are a little confusing ..... you currently are on OS X 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to OS X 10.6.8, so you can download iTunes 7.
You'll need to call the online Apple store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE, and buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, from the legacy products list. You'll use the DVD they send to install the new operating system, then run Software Update several times until there are no more updates. At that point, you'll be at 10.6.8 and can download iTunes 7.
PS. Be sure and have a system backup before upgrading your operating system.

Sorry, you can't. iTunes 11 requires at least Snow Leopard (10.6) which in turn requires an Intel processor.

  • TS3212 how do I upgrade my itunes on my pc

I had itunes but apparently need to upgrade because as of this week I can no longer see anything. How do I upgrade itunes? Is it the same as just downloading it again? I don't want to loose the music I already have.
    Thanks

You should be prompted whenever there is a newer version of iTunes available to you. Perhaps it has been turned off.
If the top menu bar is not displayed in your iTunes, use CTRL+B to turn it on. That will display this:
Click on Help/Check for Updates. If you see a message similar to this one...
...then you already have the latest version. Otherwise, a prompt will appear to help you download the new version.
For the future, to ensure that you are prompted when a newer version is available, click on Edit/Preferences/Advanced>Check for new software updates automatically:

I contacted my local Apple Store and they told me that they could not do anything for me. They suggested I buy the upgrade from Amazon.com.

  • How do I upgrade from ITunes 3.0?

    Hi there,
We just had to reinstall our hard drive and are running 10.2.8. On that disc we have Itunes 3.
How do we upgrade to a recent version? Do we have to go in steps, or can we go straight to 6.0?
We would like to be able to use the Itunes store.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

You can install iTunes 6.0x directly; there's no need to install any previous version.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, upgrade to Snow Leopard. Check that your iMac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 Then, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and follow the steps to upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install OS X 10.6.8. Finally, open Software Update again and install iTunes 11, or iTunes 10.7 > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

  • HT1338 how can I upgrade my Logic Pro 6

I bought the Logic 6 years ago, how can I upgrade this now?
    robert

You'll need to buy a new copy of Logic Pro if you want anything newer. Logic 6 was discontinued eight years ago, so no updates will be available for it. Logic Pro 9 is available through the Mac App Store.
    Regards.

  • HT1338 how could iI upgrade my OS from Mac OS 10.5.8 to the Latest version Mountain Lion

how could iI upgrade my OS from Mac OS 10.5.8 to the Latest version Mountain Lion

    Hello,
You need to get 10.6 & update to 10.6.8 first to be able to buy it from the App Store & download it.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It's been pulled from the online store, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard, but quick, call before it's gone!
    Call Apple 1-800-MY-APPLE
You have to get 10.6.8 first to go even higher to 10.7 or 10.8

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • How do I upgrade to itunes 10.68 to get to 10.7

I have 10.6 on my Mac computer but need to upgrade to Itunes 10.68 to be able to download 10.7.

There is no iTunes 10.6.8. If you mean Mac OS X 10.6.8 and have an Intel Mac, phone the online Apple Store and order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.
