  • How low can mac mini storage capacity go before it affects performance?

I have 15 GB left on my hard drive, how low can it go before it affects performance and I welcome any recommendations on how I can best expand storage space.
Usage: I use my mac for word and excel docs, but I store a number of images and graphic files, but I don't use any designer software.
    Thanks,
    Sq1mac

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There's no one answer to the question of how much free space you really need to keep on your drive before performance and system stability begins to suffer, but with 15Gb left at the present, you will only be reaching that point if you are doing things like burning disk images (because macOS grabs drive space to store the image) or syncing with MobileMe.
In your situation I'd be careful not to go below 10Gb free.
Expanding storage space is very easy. Buy an external drive with either USB2.0 or Firewire interface (firewire is better but more expensive) and connect it to your system. If the drive isn't set up for a MAc, it can easily be partitioned and formatted using Disk Utility on the Mac, and you are then ready to use whatever capacity the external has - including moving any or all your files, music, photos etc to the external if you wish or need to. Just about any external, even models which appear to be for PC/Windows use only, will work perfectly well on a Mac - you don't need a 'Mac compatible' drive.

What does the "other" part in my mac air storage meter mean?

things that are not audio movies photos apps or backups. Like your OS.
this also denotes things not indexed by spotlight as that is one of the functions of spotlight, to show you the media you have on your hard drives.

how to restore mac air osx 10.6.7

    Hi Jeannette,
If you have the newest MacBook Air then you would have received a USB "thumb drive" with the OS installation media on it. You'd want to plug that into one of your available USB ports and run the installer. If your MacBook Air is a generation or two old then it would have come with DVD installation media. You'd need an external DVD drive (USB) or to configure Disc Sharing with another computer (Mac or PC).

How to restore mac air late 2010 to its factory settings?

To restore the Late 2010 MacBook Air to factory settings:
    1. Insert the OS X thumb drive that came with your computer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and choose your USB drive.
    2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility.
    3. Select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. This will delete everything that it's in the hard drive.

  • HT201318 If you increase your iCloud storage capacity can you increase the number of songs that exceed the 25,000 limit on the iMatch. If it does not apply specifically how can I increase this rather constrained limit?

The whole business of cloud storage is unclear to me. They say that you have 5G of memory free upgrade to 15 for twenty-five dollars and that this is unrelated to music and video memory. I get this, but I have purchased iCloud Match for $25 but I've quickly maxed out the 25,000 song limit. How can I increase this limit. It is at this point I am unclear about the $25 for 15G additional storage... can this be used to increase iTunes/iCloudmusic storage to increase the music Storage? One would think that apple would make these distinctions clearer. Can anyone carify? Thanks!

iTunes Match does not use your iCloud account.  Your annual Match subscribtion pays for separate storage to host your iTunes library.  As far as I know, you can't increase the 25,000 song limit.
If you recently purchased the storage upgrade for this purpose, in the U.S. you could call 1-800-MYAPPLE for a refund if you don't need it.

  • I want to buy an ipad to teach others how to use ipads.  I would like to also teach people how to use Mac Air.  would i be able to do cross train others based on the ipad ?

As a trainer i would like to train others how to work with either of these tools - the ipad or the Mac Air.
Starting out in the world of Mac as i embark on this journey i want to ensure the path i choose will work.
in other words, based on the experience i gain with the Ipad, can i transfer this knowledge to helping others manage a Mac Air - essentially the operating system, managing files, the desktop, multitasking with apps
i do not want to buy both the ipad and the Mac Air.
    thank you for any advice

The iPad and Mac computers use different operating systems : iOS for iPads (and iPhones and iPod Touches) and OS X for Mac computers. They operate in different ways - Macs have a desktop and a file system, iPads (with the sandboxed iOS) have apps with content stored within the apps (and no file system).

  • How to increase the icloud storage?

how can i increase the storage of the iCloud account?

    Hey debbiefromphnompenh,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you wish to upgrade your iCloud storage. The following resource should assist you in doing so:
    iCloud storage upgrades and downgrades
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4874
    Upgrade your iCloud storage plan
You can increase the amount of storage by selecting a new plan from your iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, or PC (for example, a 200 GB plan to replace a 20 GB plan). Your existing storage plan will be canceled, and you'll be charged the prorated cost for the upgrade (the cost of the higher-tier plan minus the prorated cost of the previous plan). Your plan is upgraded immediately and the new monthly payment date is updated to reflect the purchase date for the new plan. You'll be notified by email each month about 7 days before the monthly payment for your storage plan is due. Your storage upgrade is billed every month unless you cancel by downgrading your storage plan.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How can increase total hard drive capacity?????

I just got an apple 750gb Sata internal hard drive. I wanted to add the 750 gb to the original hard drive because i'm running out of space. By mistake I used that 750gb as the time machine hard drive. How can I erased the time machine and used the brand new 750 Gb sata as an add on to increase the total capacity of my computer.
    Thanks
    Divi

You can't "add" one drive to another. You have to create your RAID which deletes current data. Then copy/restore files.
And anytime you want to create a RAID, use the same make and model drives.
Usually using one drive for OS/Apps and 2nd drive for scratch, 3rd for data is a good start. Then put your RAID in an external setup for such purposes or for a larger multi-drive scratch array.
You can hood up 6 drives before you have to get into a $200 RAID controller.
RAID is one of the most common topic of threads.

  • HT1338 how to upgrade mac os x 10.4 to the latest version?

how and what do i need to upgrade my mac OS X 10.4.11 to the latest version?

You must have an Intel Mac to start. If it's a Core Duo model with 1 GB or RAM or more, then you can upgrade to Snow Leopard only. If it's a Core 2 Duo with at least 2 GBs of RAM installed, then you can upgrade at least to Lion and possibly to Mountain Lion.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store.  If you want to find out whether you can buy something, you must contact stores directly yourself or consult their websites.   You should do this for stores in the country where you are located, because Apple stores do not ship to other countries.
