  • Does Apple TV output audio via both HDMI and Toslink at the same time?

I would like to know if Apple TV outputs audio via both the HDMI and Toslink ports AT THE SAME TIME...
Ideally, I want to use it in my main zone connected to my TV via HDMI and convert the Toslink signal to analog to be exported to Zone 2 on my receivers.  (My receiver - as do most - can only direct analog sources to Zones 2, 3, and 4)

    Hey Bob,
I have this same issue.  I was wondering what model of toslink to analog adapter you went with and how well it works?
    Thanks!

The other HD Audio device is likely to be the Realtek ALC880 8-channel High Definition onboard sound. This is a bit of a decision point. If you plan on always using the AMD High definition Audio as your default ouput through an HD TV with HDMI out, then you can disable the Realtek HD audio device. Once that is done then restart the PC. Go to the Control panel and select sound, now sellect the AMD HDMI out and right-click and select it as the default. There should now be a green checkmark next to it. Now you can select Configure to test it.
    Kind regards,

  • Need help to transfer 5.1 audio via hdmi

    Hi, guys!
This is my first post, I would like to apologize for my bad english.
Today I received my new Mini DP to HDMI adapter and, after a little configuration, I was able to make it work properly with my mac.
But, after all my work, I noticed that the audio transfered was only stereo, not 5.1 as my home theater can handle.
So I searched some forums for a bit and noticed that I could try to change my configurations in "audio and midi configurations" (this is a portuguese translation, I'm not sure how is the program's name in english). Once there, I saw a lot of choices for audio via hdmi, like stereo, 5.1, 6.1 etc, but only the first was availabe, all mutichannels were disabled.
Is there any way to make these choices available?
Can this be a limitation of my Mini DP to HDMI adapter?
In the item description, it says that it does transfers "uncompressed audio such as LPCM" and
"compressed audio such as DTS Digital, Dolby Digital(including DTS-HD and Dolby True HD)".
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers from Brazil

As far as I know there is no way to carry more than stereo over HDMI.
I know very little about this subject and have no experience with it myself, but I've been aware for some time of this adapter:
    http://kanexlive.com/products/iAdapt51.html
I take the description to mean that 5.1-channel digital audio can be carried by HDMI, and if the mini-Displayport doesn't output an audio signal that rich, the Kanex adapter should be a useful alternative. I've posted the link in reply to many queries in the past, but I don't recall whether or not anyone has posted back to say they've tried the adapter and tell how well it worked for them.

  • Outputting Lossy Dolby Digital & Lossy DTS 5.1 audio via HDMI - Dv7-4074 Win 7 64bit ATI HD 5650

    Hi Everybody
I'm trying to output lossy DD & DTS 5.1 soundtracks via HDMI to my HDTV then to my AV receiver via optical. Two channel LPCM works fine. I checked for updated drivers for both the ATI HD 5650 AV Card and Win 7; says both are current versions. I'm using the HP MediaSmart program for blu-ray/dvd playback with Windows 7 64bit. Any help would be appreciated.
    Steve

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I don't even have the HDMI-Passthrough option in Mediasmart--Audio. It won't give it to me.
In Win-Control Panel-Hardware & Sound It says ATI-HDMI output limited to 2 Channel only no compressed formats available.
Is there a driver/setting for Win 7 or ATI or Mediasmart to work through this issue. I know there is some small change i need
to make for this computer to be setup.
One would think that to configure this "entertainment" laptop wouldn't be so frustrating.....
I've got no problem with my connection from the HDTV to my AV Receiver. I currently have X360-viaHDMI-HDTV-viaOptical-AVReciver. The HDTV has a optical output for bitstreaming lossy multichannel audio and 2 channel lpcm. I'm only looking
for lossy multichannel sound; i know you need hdmi to the recevier for lossless multichannel lpcm/dts master etc.
    Mediasmart is  version is 4013727
Any additional help will always be appreciated

  • No audio via HDMI (dv9700t CTO)

HP Pavilion dv9700t CTO Entertainment Notebook PC / Windows Vista 64bit
I have set the default audio device to the "Realtek Digital Output" device. I get no sound.
I upgraded the audio drivers from the HP support site. Still no sound via HDMI. (microphone quality was reduced to the point of being worthless)
I upgraded the drivers again with drivers from the Realtek website. Still no sound via HDMI. (I regained microphone functionality)
The reciever that I am trying to connect to indicates that there is no audio signal being sent to it from that source (my laptop). I have even tried connecting directly to the tv. That did not work either.
Its almost as if there was no connection between the audio hardware and the HDMI port.

I also have this problem  my laptop is a Pavillion dv6000, when i first got my Sharp LCD every thing worked fine, i had both video & sound now my sound doesn't work. I cant point to exactly when my sound stopped working exactly, but i do let the computer do the regular updates with the HP update service. reading else where http://www.fixya.com/support/t1284552-hdmi_audio_not_appear_installed_hp it appears the problem may have occurred after one of the updates.

  • 5.1 Audio via HDMI

Does the Apple TV support 5.1 audio out via HDMI (either bitstream or PCM)? I have it connected to my Receiver via HDMI (which passes the video to the receivers HDMI out) and I have a few movies from the iTunes store that have 5.1 audio - but the sound is coming out as 2 channels only. Do I need to run the Optical out instead? Is the optical output the only way to get 5.1 audio?
    Cheers,
    Chris

I think you might be having the same issue I had - essentially there's a handshaking issue between the Apple TV, and the surround sound receiver. The Apple TV will only send the digital signal to the receiver if the receiver and the TV are both switched on before the Apple TV. If you turn things on in the order of:
    TV
    Receiver
Apple TV (Bring it out of standby)
You should get digital sound! The XBox360 has exactly the same handshaking issue - the same workaround works for the 360 too.

  • Cannot output audio via headphone jacks with Mac Mini (2012) and Boot Camp

    Hi all,
I have a brand new (2012) Mac Mini with a Boot Camp partition running Windows 7.  It's connected directly to an HDTV via HDMI cable.  I have external speakers hooked through the headphone jack on the back.  The speakers work fine if I'm in the Mac environment, but I cannot get the audio output to go through the headphone jack while in Boot Camp/Windows- it will only go through the speakers on the TV.  Any suggestions?  I think I've downloaded every driver I can think of, and the installation of Windows on the Boot Camp partition went well otherwise.  Thanks.
    John

Nevermind, I was missing one driver.  Installed it, fixed.

  • Monitor audio via HDMI or Optical?

My Saffire interface just died and I am looking for audio solutions other than firewire or even usb because I am now using a Retina MacBook which has HDMI. I am running 5 M-Audio speakers powered from a subwoofer.
Is anyone outputting audio through this - I want to monitor 5.1 surround? Instead of buying a new usb interface I could get a tv style receiver for HDMI and output to my speakers that way. Could be good enough to mix and monitor.
USB audio interfaces with 6 outputs are fairly expensive so this would save some bucks.

I monitor surround sound via my MiniDisplay Port to HDMI. So for your retina, you can use the Thuderbolt to HDMI connection. Look here for more details https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3639822
I use this to monitor and mix surround sound within AVID Media Composer.

  • RGB colour output format via HDMI/DP

    Hey Guys,
So i just bought a Dell u2410 screen the other day, and decided to hook it up via HDMI, It's being used for photo-editing, I tried to calibrate it, but in the sRGB mode i need to use the colours come out terrible, Reds are orange, etc. The screen itself, and it's settings arn't the problem. The problem is the Colour output of the MacBook, over HDMI and DisplayPort I've found it outputs the old YPbPr colour format, which for me is useless. if i connect it via VGA it'll output proper RGB colour format, but VGA is pretty crappy, and i ideally need to use a Digital output, I've searched all over the net for a solution, but haven't found one. one thing i did find is it will supposedly output RGB over DVI, but alas i don't have a DVI cable and do not wish to have to buy one...
so what i want to know, is it possible to change the output colour format for HDMI and DisplayPort to RGB instead of YPbPr?
Note 1: If i boot into Win7 via BootCamp it outputs RGB and has the option for YPbPr...
Note 2: It isn't the ICC colour profile that's the problem.

Thanks for the link to the Dell discussion forum.
Reading that thread and half a dozen others on the Apple forum is really a sad day for me, having owned every single iphone, ipad, Mac mini, MacBook Pro that Apple has put out, the latest Retina MBP has completely disappointed me. It seems neither Dell nor Apple care about the users who need the correct color space for digital photography.
I bought the latest and greatest MacBook Pro this year and it doesn't connect to an external monitor in the correct color space for me to do digital photography? This is really a sad situation. Will be returning it as soon as I migrate the data out.
I would gladly buy an Apple Thunderbolt display, but just can't stand its glare, not to mention it's limited resolution @2560x1200 which is smaller than the 30" @2560x1600.

  • HP 2511X - No audio via HDMI

HDMI port on  2511X LED monitor might be bad. It  only has the picture but no sound when I connect it via HDMI. I tried 2 different laptops as well as 2 brand new HDMI cables. Both cables and laptops worked on my TV's HDMI with sound although nothing out of this  2511X monitor.
Also installed new drivers on both laptops from Toshibas site.. no luck.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks!

    hbdavo,
In order for a monitors speakers to work, the monitor has to have speakers.
According to the specs, there are no built in speakers.

  • N9400GT MD512H audio via HDMI query

    Hi,
I purchased the N9400GT for its HDMI output and the fact that it quoted support for 8Ch audio.   I therefore was under the impression that I would merely have to connect the card, via the HDMI output to my Yamaha amp then on to my Sony LCD TV to get 5.1 audio into my amp?  Is this the case?
I don't have an digital output from my mainboard so the little internal cable connection is not an option, but I thought by buying this particular card I would not require a dedicated soundcard?   Has anyone set one of these up to achieve this outcome.
    Thanks

all the vga card allows is onboard sound to be sent down the hdmi lead

  • Audio Driver Update, Will not play audio via HDMI cable now...

I just did a driver update for the realtek audio on my Y70 touch.   When I plug the HDMI cable into the receiver (TV & speakers), it will still transfer the image to the TV and reformat the screen, but now the audio will not play unless I make the room speakers the default audio instead of the laptop speakers...   That is just a real PITA to keep switching the default every time I wanted to do something on the big screen with my computer. Any advice on how to fix that?  Preferably without rolling back the driver that was 130MB+ of a download & install that required to restarts to apply. Thanks,                Joe

I haven't had mine long but I always have to do that with my tower system. (switch playback device for sound). I played a movie on the Z70 last night and go audio without doing anything (so it is different) but the sound level was low even though I checked the outputs were set to 100% HDMI audio required I turn up the sound at the TV end a lot to hear it. I figure I am missing something but did not want to spend the time troubleshoot, rather tha watch the Netfix movie.

  • No screensaver or sleep when outputting audio over HDMI

I am using a Mac Mini i5 2.5 running 10.8.2.  This is a new setup and I have tested it with a standard computer monitor and it works fine, however when I implement it in my home theater setup running into a Pioneer VSX-1325 receiver, which I use for my video and audio switching the screen saver will not turn on once I have played any audio over the HDMI (iTunes, Netflix... etc).  From a cold boot the screen saver will boot up, until I trigger any sustained audio (non-system sounds) through the HDMI connection... This includes web based audio as well.  Has anyone else experienced this?  For this is a major issue as this display is connected to a plasma TV and I can not rely on my wife to always use a hot corner.  I do not want any image persistence or burn-in on my display.  I should add the the screensaver function will resume after a period of time when there is no audio being output.

Apparently this was an issue in Lion as well.  Thread below, but can Apple fix this ASAP before I have a Plasma with burn-in?
