Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

I am having trouble moving my G4 tower from 9.2.2 to the Mac Os X system. I am thinking that my Max Os X ver 10.1 disc is damaged, and I'm not sure where or what to purchase to replace this Cd. Can't locate these older versions on Apple's page. This machine was once on Tiger, but I erased the HD and had planned to re-install anew my OS's. I thought I had read once that you could bypass the older versions of Mac Os X with any of the later versions - e.g. Leopard and Tiger, i.e. upgrade from a Mac Os 9.2.2 to Leopard and or Tiger directly, but I haven't been able to do that. Can anyone help?

First of all, it will be helpful for us to know which Mac G4 you have. I suspect that you have a PowerMac G4. If that is correct what processor speed do you have? How large is your HDD and how much free space do you have? How much RAM do you have installed?
Next, you are correct, you do not need to install prior versions to be able to install Panther, Tiger or Leopard if your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the OS you wish to install.
OS X 10.1 is essentially a Beta version, is very unstable and is hardly worth your while installing. I suggest a minimum of Panther (10.3x)
Post back with updated information and we will see where you need to go next.

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.

You cannot use the standard desktop Snow Leopard upgrade on a machine running any flavor of OS X Server. There is a lot of 'under-the-hood' functionality that would not take well to attempting this and could render you with a dead Mac until you reinstall the original OS.
If you wish to keep the Server functionality, the Snow Leopard Server upgrade ($499) is the only option.
If you wish to ditch the Server functionality and use the standard desktop version, you would need a copy of the desktop version of OS X 10.5 Leopard and the ($29) Snow Leopard upgrade. Apple does sell both 10.5 and the Snow Leopard upgrade in a combo bundle.

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
