I have a webcam and Labview 8, Vision Assistant Module 8, NI IMAQ for USB Cameras. What I concern is how to use a webcam in motion tracking? Should I just use Vision assistant or use it in combination with Labview? Do I need any other support?

Thanks for your post. Vision Assistant is a good software package to prototype your system, but it does not give you access to all Vision methods. LabVIEW is much more powerful allowing full access to Vision. You may want to use Vision Assistant to play with the algorithms (you can use your mouse to set regions of interest, etc) and then once you find the methods and parameters that work, implement the code in LabVIEW.

Time Machine should be enough to make a backup of your files. Also, it should back up all folders, so open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and make sure that there are no folders included in the excluded items list.
If you want to create a bootable clone of your hard drive, you need to use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Disk Utility's Restore feature > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html

     I'm trying to resume regular scheduled Full backup ( ~ 1 TB ) of drives using external HD (to allow off-site redundant backup storage) .
     What are relative speeds of USB vs. Firewire vs. eSATA ?
     I suspect eSATA connection may be considerably faster … how to install eSATA on mid-2010 Mac Pro desktop ( dual hex-core processors)?
      ( The quicker and easier backup protocol is, the more likely one is to use it to backup on a routine repetitive basis.)

Adding a USB 3.0+eSATA PCIe card, which The hatter mentions, is the best solution that I've found. See http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/FASTA6GU3/. The card is not cheap, but the USB 3.0 works flawlessly (which can't be assumed; ask me how I know) and the eSATA connection allows booting from the connected drive. Grant Bennet-Alder's point about HD speed is important to consider; in addition, the size of the individual files being backed up and where on the backup disk they're going will affect overall transfer speed. For example, using the USB 3.0 connection on that CalDigit card going to a Toshiba 3TB external, the transfer rate for a big file (say a virtual machine file) from an internal SSD boot drive was about 145 MB/sec while a bunch of little files might drop to 30 MB/sec and both rates decrease as an inner partition on the external is used. All told, a nearly 700 GB backup took under 1.5 hours. Using a HD as the source added almost an extra hour, though a WD external was used for that. It does not function the same as windows, in that it does not have an automatic snap function. You can put multiple apps up side by side though. You might want to consider using Spaces instead.

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

No webcams working on Mac Pro, happened suddenly, need troubleshooting.

I have had a Logitech C910 webcam and a Mac Pro (Early 2008) for years. They both worked well together. The Logitech C910 worked out of the box as I recall. I have been using it for Messages and Facetime, and both video and audio have worked. A few weeks back, I was trying to determine options for screencasting a webinar. I installed GoToMeeting and tried it out, as well as join.me. I installed and uninstalled a few others that I can't recall.
At some point during this, my webcam simply stopped working for video. It still works as a microphone, but Facetime shows no video, and Messages says "no camera is connected."
- I tried resetting SMC. It didn't work.
- I have restarted many times.
- Repaired disk permissions many times.
- I tried reinstalling Mavericks (the way that preserves your data and files, just reinstalls the OS). Didn't help.
- In "System Report" it is listed there under USB.
- Webcam works when I reboot into Boot Camp (Windows 7) meaning the webcam is fine.
- I tried "sudo killall VDCAssistant" as suggested here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4158054?start=15&tstart=0
- If I plug in my old iSight firewire, the OS won't detect it for Facetime but it will for Messages.
I am at wits end. It appears that something I did is causing a driver conflict or erased a neccesary driver. However, I would think one of the solutions above would have worked and it hasn't. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

I used Carbon Copy Cloner. I swapped it into the main bay, enabled Screen Sharing and can confirm it works 100%. I also swapped my old dying drive that came with the system which was 10.5.x still and no such luck either.
I tried pulling all drives and putting the disc in, but I don't see how that is going to help unfortunately since I can't see what is going on with no display.
I tried the reset, although I have been unplugging it everyday all week overnight.
I have thought about running Windows again, but it's not really needed right now. I just need Mac to run for the immediate future.
I don't think there is a problem with the RAM. I looked at them and they appear to be fine. They also show up fine in System Profiler and when Screen Sharing, the computer and programs seem to run as they should.
So, I guess, in the end it must just be a video card issue. I hope. I'll look into buying a new card, whether a 2600 or 5770 and see if I can get the display back. If not, then I guess it's a problem with the the logic board which of course would not make sense to replace anymore cause of cost.

How to get 10 screens on a Mac Pro

I'm trying to figure out how to get 10 screens working together like one big desktop on a Mac Pro.
Currently I have a 12core 2010 Mac Pro with 2 ATI 5770 cards driving 6 30" cinema displays. Each of these cards are double wide.
I want to connect 4 65" LED displays.
Does anyone have an idea how I can do this? The Mac Pro has only 4 slots. The two 5770s take up 3 spaces (because of their doulbe wide size). The last slot has a OWC solidstate drive there. I guess I could remove that and use just a regular SATA SSD if need be, but would love to get this done with just 3 slots.
So some thoughts. There are two possible ways (ideal, and less ideal) that I can think of:
IDEAL way:
The ideal would be to find a single wide card that supports 5 or 6 displays, and use that. I know that some people have had success flashing single wide cards, but it's not clear if all the ports are usable. See here for an ATI card with 3 ports, single slot, that's been flashed:

My guess is there are some PCI expansion chasis, and I can just put in 2 more regular ATI 5770s there. I found this:

EVEN LESS ideal way:
Perhaps getting another Mac or PC and somehow VNC'ing in is an option, but this likely would be too laggy to run video from one computer to the other. The ideal is to just treat the system like one giant screen, but I'm open to hearing any experiences/suggestions on getting this to work.

After reading up on it, it seems that the 6850 supports 3 displays. So perhaps I could do one 6870 (4 displays) in slot one, and then 2 single slot 6850's or 5770's in slots 2 and 3. This would give 10 displays.
I have 3 questions then:
(1) What is the quietest 6870 card people have successfully used in a Mac Pro?
(2) What is quietest single slot 6850 or 5770 card successfully used in a Mac Pro?
(3) Has anyone gotten thiis 5770 single slot card to work on a Mac Pro, and have they gotten 5 display ports to work?

There are various browser scripts
1: Java (not needed much at all and highly advised to be turned off in Safari/Firefox preferences due to it's vulnerability)
2: Javascript (if off, needs to be turned on in Safari/Firefox preferences as it's used A LOT)
Note: If your using a NoScript type blocker, then you need to whitelist the site. Or drag a Temp Allow All button to Firefox's Toolbar.
3: Silverlight plug-in (needed for watching Netflix content, it's from Microsoft)
4: Flash (needed for watching a lot of web based content, but requires constant checks to make sure it's current as they have a lot of security issues)

To restore the Mac Pro to factory settings:
1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD that came with your Mac, and press the C key while your Mac is starting.
2. Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X, so it will be installed using default settings
This will erase everything, so make a backup of your data before
