HT1338 how to use Bonjour

can any one tell me how can i add my hp printer which is on network to my mac 10.7.3. Thanks

To be clear, Snow Leopard is 10.6.x  and Lion is 10.7.x
iOS is another operating system used on iPhones and iPads.
On your computer you can click on the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and select About this Mac. Click on the Mac OS X version, to see the build and serial number in rotation.
The procedure given by nerowolfe should work, but  you may need to cable connect during the initial phase of the installation.  Read your printer instructions.
It may not be necessary, but I also needed to reset my router to it's factory default settings (not just a reboot), before I could get the printer to connect wirelessly.

  • How-to: Using Bonjour Browser as a troubleshooting tool

AirPort Extreme uses Bonjour (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bonjour/) to facilitate features like disk sharing and printing. You can use a Bonjour browser to see what features are active on your network.
    How does this help?
Many questons on the forum are similar to 'Where's my shared disk/iTunes/printer/airport?' A Bonjour browser can tell you if your disk/iTunes/printer/airport is present in your network. If the feature is not present focus on the device/feature. If the feature is present focus on your client computer.
    1) Download a Bonjour browser, e.g. I use this browser: 'Bonjour Browser' (http://www.tildesoft.com/Programs.html)
    2) Install and run Bonjour Browser
    3) You should see a hierarchy of features under 'local'. There maybe other domains in addition to local.
Here's some examples of Bonjour-advertised features:
Shared disks appear under 'adisk.tcp.' Under this heading you can see all your AirPorts with the disks you nominated for sharing, with IP addresses.
The base station itself is under 'airport.tcp.' Under this entry are all the base stations you have (b/g and n, AirPort Express etc ...)
The 'AirTunes' entry tells you which IP address is your AirTunes/AirPort Express device.
You can also see any file sharing, SSH, iTunes music sharing etc .. that may be offered by your client computers. I see my IP printer under 'Printer PDL Data Stream).
    Hope this helps your troubleshooting.

    Hi gino,
    Select -
where text CP 'Manufacturer' is right answer. If you get error on that statment, you would probably check the field that is used in where clause.
or  try the following statement. Hope this will helps.
    select -
    where text = '%manufacturer%'.
I think it will then become a performance issue. Explain it clearly that what exactly you want and where is this being used.
Do you want some thing like search help? Example: customer number search from any customer field. If so try to create a search help and add the same to your custom field.

How to use a webcam on a mac pro?

    Generally, plug it in.
The OS should notice most major webcams, although you might need to install some software from the vendor to make it work. You'll need to check specific make/models for compatibility.
Once it's connected it should be available in any application that supports video input.

  • How to use Bonjour

    Hi,
    I have looked around the web for quite a while on how to link up my macbook and a windows pc for sharing my document etc;
From the look of things I can do this via Bonjour. So I've downloaded it to Windows and have it on my Mac. Now what do I do?
There is little direction of what to do at this point to start sharing. What should I do on my machines so that I can pass files easily?
Also, does Bonjour only owrk when running off the same network? The PC is my parents and I live away, but if I could still share files with them it would make things much easier. Can this be done?
    Thanks

    G'day,
    Two questions here:
    1) How to configure a Windows - OS X network (locally). There are several excellent guides available for this on the internet for Leopard (most of which is relevant for Snow Leopard). However the instructions vary according to the version of Windows (2000, XP, Vista, 7).
A good guide from the OS X side of the fence is the Apple one: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1549
A good guide covering everything for Windows Vista: http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesvs_2.htm
A good guide covering everything for Windows XP:
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesxp_2.htm
    2) How to setup screen and file sharing remotely. There are multiple ways of doing this, but the easiest from cross platform work is logmein or teamviewer.
    Cheers,
    Rodney
    I hope this helps,
    Rodney

  • How to use iPhone as a modem for MBP

    bonjour all,
after looking up information about how to use my iPhone 3G as a modem to my late 2008 MPB i found a APP called NetShare that was removed by Apple for reasons unknown yet, and i was hoping that with a little luck there might be an alternative.
if you have any information please pass it on,
    Cheers,
    Sean

I'm from the US, and there has been no alternative because Apple doesn't want people to be able to tether on the iPhone just yet. Apparently they will be releasing tethering to iPhone users here soon, but Apple took Netshare down because of that fact.
Now I don't know if there is anything else available in Paris, but you might want to contact Apple or your cell carrier and ask them, they would have a better idea about it.

  • IChat AV 3.1.9 (v446) HOW 2 USE IT? - NEVER USED IT - I'D LIKE 2 USE IT!

Till today, I separately use msn messenger and yahoo messenger. I'd like to only use iChat AV 3.1.9 (v446) I already have installed but got no idea how to use it.
When I click iChat the Buddy List window opens together with AOL Instant Messenger Login which informs me that "iChat was unable to login to the AOL Instant Messenger service because your screen name or password was incorrect." In the Login ID section there's my every day used e-mail; [email protected] and the password section is empty. The thing is that I got no idea when I gave those info to AOL and I can't remember my password... so I can't login.
Then I go to iChat preferences, click Accounts and I see 3 of them. The first one is an AOL Instant Messenger account named George Nikas, the second another AOL Instant Messenger account and the third another Bonjour account. At the last account I open My Address Book Card and among my info I also see an e-mail I have never used (created like all the other info ages ago); [email protected]
As I said in the first paragraph I'd like to use iChat, rearrange all my info and delete anything which isn't useful.
    1) I would like to edit my .Mac account but how?
    2) Also edit my AIM and Bonjour account. Maybe delete one of them? (As I said I found two AIM accounts). How?
    3) Embody my msn and yahoo messengers in iChat.
Please don't laugh at all my stupid questions!
I KNOW I'M A MESS AND SOUND LIKE A CHILD!
    THANK GOD THERE'S APPLE DISCUSSIONS.
    THANX A LOT!

    Hi,
    The Detailed Version http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/versions/ichat3/howtos3.html
Use the Second menu for the first three items.
iChat 3 can login in to one AIM Buddy List and one Jabber List and the Bonjour option giving you a max of three Buddy Lists at any one time.
AIM Screen Names and Apple IDs (Email type for @mac.com or MobileMe) can be used for the AIM Buddy List.
GoogleTalk is a Jabber Server and can be made to work in iChat 3
You Can have other Jabber IDs from other servers.
If you have more than one AIM valid name or Jabber account set up in iChat 3 then you have to Log one out before you Login another.
There is only ever one Bonjour list if you have Enabled this and it is essentially Mac to Mac only on your LAN.
This can only be edited as such via your Address Book.
It uses the Name on the "My Card" to send that as your Buddy Name to other Macs on your LAN.
IF there are other Macs on your LAN with iChat Open and Bonjour Enabled then you will see people as their own Address Book Entry
If you cannot remember telling AIM your Hotmail Email name (It is possible to register Email IDs as Screen Names at AIM) then it would be best to delete that Account in iChat > Preferences > Accounts (Highlight then use the Minus button lower left).
For your @Mac.com type name you may get some Progress here https://iforgot.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/DSiForgot.woa/wa
Type in the @Mac.com name and you will be led through the retrieval Process.
However it may want to send the response to an Email address you no Longer have access to.
(and just to complicate things you can't change the reply Email address until you have access to the Account).
    Summary
For 1) try the Paragraph above.
For 2) just delete the Hotmail name as an AIM name. You cannot edit the Bonjour Stuff in iChat but can change your Name in the Address Book (This will also effect Mail as it "Sends" your Name as part of the Headers linked to the Email Address you use).
I have left 3) until now.
This can be done but only for Text Chats.
With a Jabber Account you do some background/workaround stuff that enables that Jabber account to login to what is called A Transport on an Jabber server that then links that Jabber ID to MSN or Yahoo.
    Resources.
http://www.jabberes.org/servers/ A list of Jabber Servers and the options they have like Transports.
Some allow you to login via any other Jabber server (After your set it up you don't have to use the Jabber account but can use another such as GoogleTalk)
Instructions on how to make iChat use these Transports http://allforces.com/2005/05/06/ichat-to-msn-through-jabber/
As I have pointed out it pays to know which Jabber Server you are going to use first before doing this bit. The Instructions make more sense if you are doing it as you go.
Instructions for Getting your GoogleMail Account to work in iChat 3 http://google.com/support/chat/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=24076
These pics and Instructions are for iChat 3
If you have a GoogleMail ID (@Gmail.com or @Googlemail.com) then you have to go to your account settings at Google and Enable Talk first.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using Bonjour with Windows 7?

Recently purchased an HP G62-144DX Notebook with Windows 7 pre-installed. I've been trying to print using Bonjour through the airport express to my Canon printer. The airport works with the Mac OS on my iMac and Macbook pro. It usually works with an old Dell laptop that runs Vista Home Premium. However, it does not work on my HP with Windows 7 or my iMac with Windows 7. I have the latest Bonjour installation, which claims to work with Windows 7.
Oddly, when I print, I don't get an error message on my laptop. It's as though the computer sends the printed document off into space. I've tried disabling my Avast Anti-virus, thinking that maybe the print job was being firewalled. I've tried re-running Airport Utility. I've tried re-downloading Bonjour. Basically, I've tried everything that I can think of. Nothing ever prints.
Anyone have a clue how to resolve this?

I've read a lot of discussions on this problem and there was no answer I could find. However I knew that Bonjour uses IP address printing so I looked for where the address was configured. I have TimeCapsule but I think Airport works the same.
Go to Devices and Printers, right click on the Printer (HP, Samsung etc) and select Printer Properties and then select Ports and then highlight and "Configure" the port for the printer from the list. Mine Printer configuration said something like "TimeCapsule.local" for the IP address (strange IP address huh?) so then I set the IP address to 10.0.1.1 which is the address of my TimeCapsule. Eureka, it worked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems printing to HP printers using Bonjour and XP

    Good afternoon all
I am unable to print from my ThinkPad X61 PC laptop running XP (Service Pack 3) to either of my HP printers (Laserjet 6MP and PhotoSmart C3180) connected to my Airport Extreme via a USB hub. They work fine from my MacBook running Snow Leopard, or when directly connected to my PC.
I am able to install both printers using Bonjour Printer Wizard (and recognize them through Airport Utility). I then print a document, it spools to the print queue, then generates an error saying the document failed to print. I have tried it without the hub with the same result.
I have reinstalled Bonjour and the printer drivers and followed the Printer Troubleshooting Guide procedure to no avail. I have also tried the TCP/IP port creation which did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Yours
    Sam

    Hi Pahu,
Thanks for you reply. Here's some additional information because I'm not quite sure how to resolve the network addressing as you described. The router is set up as a DHCP server, using the standard 192.168.1.1 IP address, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 The starting IP address is 192.168.1.100, and I have it set to allow up to 50 connections. (No particular reason, I think that may have been the default.) The printer is set up to check a variety of connection protocols, starting with DHCP. If that fails, it moves to BOOTP, etc. When I print the network configuraton page from the printer, it tells me the IP address is 169.254.18.32, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, default gateway 169.254.18.32, and the IP is configured by AUTOIP.
In the past, when it has been working properly, the printer shows an IP address of 192.168.1.10X, usually .100 or .101, but it depends on which device I've powered up first. This is what I would expect, given that the printer should be communicating with the router and be assigned an IP address by DHCP. What I can't figure out is why the printer reverts to its internal default IP address 169.254.18.32, and why this is inaccessible even if I try to designate the printer as an IP printer and type in the printer's IP address.
Do I need to set the printer to refresh its DHCP lease more often to ensure it doesn't get cut off by the router? How do I make sure the printer stays on the same subnet as the computers if they're all on the same router? Should I assign the printer a static IP address like 192.168.1.100, then set the DHCP range to start at 192.168.1.101? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm not a network expert and I didn't think this printer would be such a pain to configure.
    Cheers,
    R
