HT1338 I forgot my Keychain password, is there a way to reset it?

I forgot my Keychain password, is there a way to reset it?

There is no way to change a keychain password without the original password. The only option is to delete the keychain and start a new one. Use Keychain Access. (You could keep a back up of the old keychain file in case you remember the password some day.)

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • Forgot my master password, is there a way to change it?

Forgot my master password.  Wondering is there a special way to change it for the new OS LION?
I read past discussions on how to change it for older OS.  Such as deleting some files under /library/keychains folder.
Also, the other way I read is to put in the installer disc and change it from there.  But, how would I be able to do it for LION OS as I have downloaded it directly from the App Store and do not have it on any physical disk.
Also, I did NOT turn on Filevault.  So this should be easier for me to change it.
    Thanks!

    1. Shutdown your computer
    2. boot up holding down the option key on the keyboard
    3. click on the Recovery disk
    4. after system boots select terminal from the Utilities Menu
    5. type resetpassword
    6. verify the account name
    7. type your new password in and hit return
    8. type your new password in and hit return.
    9. quit terminal
    10. restart your computer
    11. login with the new password and trash your keychain

    no

  • Am buyig a ipad 4 on ebay but the person forgot the user name and the password is there a way to reset it

is the a way to reset a ipad if you forgot the uset and the password

If that ipad is running iOS7 then no, you cannot wipe it without the user's Apple ID and pass word....which isn't usually something a person forgets. The cynic in me would be very suspicious of a person selling a device that says they have no access to the password protection on said device.

  • Can't remember Admin password, is there a way to reset it?

Can't remember my Admin password, what are my options?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but the Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as the login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Help there is no X button when I try to delete an app from my ipad. People say i need to enter my restriction passcode in to delete it. But I forgot the passcode. Is there a way to reset it?

Help please! This has never happened before when I got my iPod touch.

No, no way to reset it. Wouldn't be much of a security feature if there was a way around it :-)
If you want to save your data that is not already backed up, you will have to restore from a backup made before you turned on restrictions. If you are ok with starting fresh, simply restore as new.
    Follow these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

  • Hi there, I have locked the restrictions section in settings and forgot my password, is there a way to reset this or an over ride code?

Hi There, I have locked the restricted access section as she was purchasing lots of in app purchases and now I cannot remember the four digit code to unlock it.  Does anyone know how if there is a master code or how to reset only this section without deleting everything on the ipod?

    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - If you are up to it see:

  • HT201412 I forgot my iphone password is there a way i could unlock it without restoring it ?

    Help please !

Sorry, no. The only way to remove the passcode, if you can't remember it, is to restore the phone. Either from backup, or as a new device. Read here:

No, Apple can't help.  Just connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in recovery mode.  For that mode see:

Forgot password to log on to phone, is there any way to reset?

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
