HT1338 I have a Power Mac G5 running 10.4 and am trying to upgrade OS.  Need Help.

I have a Power Mac G5 with an OS 10.4; what upgraces are available?

Leopard 10.5.8 is the last operating system a PowerPC Mac can be upgraded to.
Everything else newer requires Intel.
The DVD for Leopard are getting expensive since Aple has stopped producing them.

  • I have a Power Mac G5 quad core (2006) and it does not work.

I have a Power Mac G5 Quad core (2006) and it does not work. The status light flashes twice and the fans blow full blast. The display does not show anything. Does anybody know what is wrong with my mac.

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
See which one your G5 has, should be the 1st one ..

  • I have a Power Mac G4 running 10.5.8 (circa 2002).  Can I buy a card that will allow me to activate Wi-FI?

    Hello:
Here's what I hope to do.  I want to be able to transfer photos from an Eye-Fi card in a digital camera to my oldish Power Mac G4 running 10.5.8.  I don't have wi-fi capability in the computer now but was hoping that I can buy a card to give the machine this capability?  Anyone know what I should be looking to buy?
    Sincerely:
    Michael

  • I have a Power Mac G4 running Tiger that will not open Classic 9.1

I have an old Power Mac G4 Running OSX 10.4.11 that would run Classic 9.1. I haven't used the computer in a long time, but am trying now, and Classic will not start. I get no alerts, besides one that says "You have Mac OS 9.1 Installed. It's recommended that you upgrade to Mac OS 9.2" With "OK" as the only option. Afterwards it just goes to the start up screen for Classic and the blue bar doesn't move, but flickers. I have tried restarting, and all extensions are off. I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions??

You'll need to copy these files onto your computer in Mac OS 9 to be able to extract the 9.2.1 update, install it, and then the 9.2.2 update and install it:

We have a MacBook Pro and it is usually quiet, but it sits in a stand to allow air under the bottom.
Just my opinion, but based on experience.
You are still eligible to purchase the longer term AppleCare warranty I think (3 years if my memory is correct). While it is an expense that you may never need, in my opinion, it is cheap insurance based on the cost to repair computers. I buy it and more than once it has paid for itself many times over. Not that Apple products are bad, but electronics do weird things at times.

  • Hi There, i have a power mac g5, which has the following spec, can i upgrade straight from 10.5.8 to 10.7? or do i have to purchase 10.6 first?;

    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Power Mac G5
      Model Identifier:          PowerMac7,3
      Processor Name:          PowerPC G5  (3.1)
      Processor Speed:          2.7 GHz
      Number Of CPUs:          2
L2 Cache (per CPU):          512 KB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.35 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          5.2.4f1
      Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-000D9379499E

Lion won't boot or install if there isn't EFI or UEFI firmware.
You can focus on Intel side because that is simple and easier (though because some early "Core Duo" models are cut off from 10.7 and only Core2Duo and above are supported).
There is no firmware support. The logicboard can't.  There is no PowerPC code in Lion, which was the heart of the G5 kernel.
Lion integrates the iPad and other iOS devices with the desktop and iCloud along with Apple's AppStore.   There is a lot of 'something' and what value or benefit it offers to the traditional desktop OS, I think the jury will have to decide.
But 10.4.11 may also be the most optimized Apple OS for the PowerMac platform.
Excellent value on Apple refurbished equipment -

    Apple Specials MacBook Pro

  • HT1338 I have an older Mac using 10.5.8 and need to upgrade the software so I can run the latest Itunes which requires 10.6.8.  My new iphone 5 needs this to load music.

? How do I upgrade my older MAC from 10.5.8 to a minimum of 10.6.8 in order to load the current iTunes software that is required for the new iphone 5?

Click here, buy and install the DVD, and then run Software Update.

  • Run DB Verify and has some files corrupt. Need help

In our system, after we run the DB Verify and two data files have the following message:
Page 254582 is marked media corrupt
Page 254583 is marked software corrupt
Page 254584 is marked software corrupt
Page 254585 is marked software corrupt
Page 254586 is marked software corrupt
Page 254587 is marked software corrupt
    A few questions:
What is the difference between the 'media corrupt'and 'software corrupt'?
How to verify if the data is really corrupted or not?
If is corrupted, is possible to repair it?
    How to recover from this?
In general, what are the procedures after finding files are currupted?
    Thanks for advises.

While I think that Mylenium and Dec9 have solved your problem with installation, here is a CHECKLIST on installing most Adobe programs, that might also help.
    Good luck,

  • I have Iphone4 Factory-unlock from Etisalat (Dubai-UAE) and when trying to upgrade my IOS to 4.3.3 it always gives me error -3259 (err=-3259), any help. (F.I: My current IOS4.3 and Itunes 10.2 are all orginal from Apple)

As mentioned, i bought this phone from Etisalat (Dubai-UAE based operator) and i never face a issue perviously on updating an IOS, this time after downloading IOS 4.3.3 I always get a error (it says Network issue)  with Number Err= -3259 and never lets me update the IOS on my Iphone 4. My Iphone is completly original (Meaning, not jail breaked) and its using Itunes 10.2.2. The reason i want to update is becuase after updating the current installed IOS (4.3.2) the battery life is really bad and when i want to restore my Iphone4, it wants to download the updated IOS software (4.3.3) and when trying to update its gives me error all the time and does not let me update or install it.
Any help and update on how to fix this issue.

  • I have a Power Mac G5 - How can I run Matrox MX02 mini max

I have a Power Mac G5 Running Mac OSX 10.5.8 I recently got the MX02 Mini Max by Matrox to run my Final Cut Studio application version 6.6 and Im having problems with the pci board that comes with the matrox unit ( it does not fit in the mother board) how would i be able to use this with out connecting the pci board into my mother board on my Mac.?

    Can't use it with a G5.
System requirements are Mac Pro and Intel-based MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 or higher.
IF (big if) the card is PPC Mac compatible, only Late 2005 G5 machines have PCIe. All other G5s are PCI.
The Matrox card is PCIe, not PCI.
