You have entirely too little free space on the boot drive, for best performance it's best to have hard drives only 50% filled max and never more than 80% filled.
See Storage Drive here and reduce some space also make a seperate bootable clone backup of all your data BEFORE upgrading

Why is my computer slow?
If you upgrade and it doesn't go right or slows the machine down you might need to erase and install, which all your programs will have to be reinstalled from original sources and files from backup.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If you can't do this, then hire a local PC/Mac specialist.
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 on that older machine, it will slow down and you will lose all your PPC based programs.
Leave the Lions for a brand new machine with a SSD drive.

I want to upgrade to snow leopard from 10.5.8. Im hesitant to proceed because I'm running iPhoto 7 and word 2004. I want to be sure these programs will still run and I won't lose my photos or the events I have ordered them by. Should i make a partition on my new Iomega external and clone it just in case? Word 2004 is almost 10 years old, you will not be able to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard with it. IMHO you have gotten your money's worth out of the application and need to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011, this will work just fine and read your old files just fine too. What will not run beyond SL are all PowerPC (PPC) apps such as Word 2004. You will need to update, upgrade or replace any PPC based apps you want to use. I would recommend taking a little time and check for updates to each of your apps. Then open System Profiler (Applications - Utilities - System Profiler) click the Applications link on the left and then look for any PPC based apps, those are the ones that will not run. You can upgrade to SL just fine with the apps you currently have however if you want to go beyond SL (it's already 2 generations behind) you will need to update or upgrade your apps. You can take your time doing it but eventually you're going to have to begin

I have installed the most recent version of Snow Leopard on my MAC, and I am trying to install Mountain Lion from the Apple Store. It will not install, because it says I do not have 2GB of memory, even though I have over 200GB available. Please help.
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
One thing is the memory, and another thing is the hard disk space. You are telling me that you have 200 GB of free space on the hard disk, but the App Store is telling you that you have to install 2 GB of memory or more on your Mac if you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, open > About this Mac > More Info, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know what Mac you have got and how much memory you can install.
We recommend to buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC) because you won't probably have any problem with the memory you buy there -

Update bundle just released for Aperture 3.4.2, Safari 6.0.2, and iPhoto 9.4.2 will not install. Keep getting error "The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -3001.)(102)" Any one else having this issue? Please help.

Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us; working on it!"

What machine are you running on?
As far as I recall, Snow Leopard's memory requirements were 1GB of RAM. All Intel-based Macs have shipped with at least that much, so I don't understand how you have a machine that doesn't have enough memory. -

A standard installation of SL will only replace the system files, leaving all your data and preferences intact.
But! Things have been known to go wrong, so I strongly advise backing up your current system to an external HD with the Restore function in Disk Utility before starting the installation. -

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.

Be sure to repair your hard drive and permissions before upgrading:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
I have a macbook air running on OS X 10.5.8. I wish to run on the new mountain lion. I realise that i am currently on leopard which means i have to upgrade to snow leopard or lion before i can get mountain lion. Trouble with Safari and keychain after upgrade to Snow Leopard
I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Previously in Safari (with Leopard), when logging in to a website, I entered the first character of my login and, depending on the settings in Keychain, the login/password was autofilled or I was prompted for my Keychain Access password and then it autofilled. This worked great because no one could use my laptop and be able to log in to sensitive websites without my Keychain Access password. And, because I have multiple accounts on some websites, I could choose which login ID to use based on the first character. I don't know if Safari was set to autofill or not, but I suspect not because I never wanted autofill.
After I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Safari would not connect to Keychain at all. I figured out I had to check Safari's autofill User Names and Passwords box in order for it to recognize Keychain. But now it autofills whenever I land on a website login page, even though the Keychain items are set to require my Keychain password. Further, for those websites that have multiple accounts, Safari is autofilling the one that is first listed in Keychain.
What do I need to do for Safari to use Keychain Access without immediately autofilling (like it did with Leopard)?Yes, thank you. I have done that on most of them and it works well. My frustration is that the autofill in Safari seems to be the only way to engage Keychain. When I don't select autofill in Safari, I can't engage Keychain at all (without manually opening it and viewing an individual key). I'd like to be able to activate Keychain selectively as I did in Leopard.
For those sites where I have multiple accounts, I have discovered that if I deny the first pop-up from Keychain, I can then delete the autofilled login and enter the first character of the one I want, and the pop-up appears again. It's just frustrating to have to take those extra steps. -
