To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

    Hi
You need to find the format of the drive by looking at its info, my guess would be you are currently in NTFS (windows only) mac can use any mac os journaled or non journaled, or you can use fat32 which is usable on both pc and mac but is unable to move files over 4GB so no good for large file transfers. You will need to re format at some point but this will delete everything currently on the drive.
    Hope this helps

Recently, after cancelling the tick of a song, which is the next song after the one I am listening, in the song list, the canceled song will still run for the next song. I remember that it used not to happen like this. How can I solve this problem?

This looks like a change of behaviour in iTunes 12. Once songs are queued up to the Up Next list then they play whether ticked or not. If you want to skip certain songs already queued click the Up Next tool, then click the small X to the left of the song that appears when you hover over it.

  • I have an iPhone 5. Just downloaded the latest Upgrade and it is not updating my mailboxes or showing that I even have mail like the other version did, when I open the mailbox icon

i have an iPhone 5 and just downloaded the latest upgrade.iOS 7.  Dunno what happened but it no longer is "pushing" my email into my mailboxes nor is it showing that I even have mail when I open the Mailbox icon. What happened?  What do I need to do to fix? help

That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation.  A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number.  I suggest you turn iMessage off.  In settings/phone turn on dial assist.  Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage.  Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

  • How do I send my photos to iCloud on my iPhone 3, which has the latest upgrade. I cannot find the option.

How do I send my photos on my iPhone 3, which has the latest upgrade, to iCloud? I cannot find an option.

You can only view your photo stream photos from a device or computer that is signed into your account with photo stream enabled, not from icloud.com.  If you backed up your phone, the camera roll photos on your phone would be included in the backup, but cannot be seen unless you restore the backup to your phone.
However, you shouldn't try to use iCloud to back up your photos.  Photo stream photos only remain in iCoud for 30 days.  And if you back up yoru phone to iCloud, then delete your photos, you next backup will overwrite the backup that contains the photos you deleted and they would be lost.
To back up your photos, import them to your computer using your usb cable as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

I Have OSX 10.5.8 how can i get OSX 10.6 or can I jump to the next upgrade ?

In order to proceed you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) first: you can purchase this from the online Apple Store. Note that you must have an Intel Mac in order to install this (and you should check the other requirements, listed in the Technical Specifications on the Store page, before purchasing). As you have Leopard it's possible your Mac is a PPC one: if this is the case you cannot upgrade any further.
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard you can obtain Mavericks for free from the App Store in your Applications folder. The requirements for Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
If you are unable to install Mavericks (it won't let you if your Mac isn't compliant with the requirements) you may be able to install Lion.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Hi There, i have a power mac g5, which has the following spec, can i upgrade straight from 10.5.8 to 10.7? or do i have to purchase 10.6 first?;

    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Power Mac G5
      Model Identifier:          PowerMac7,3
      Processor Name:          PowerPC G5  (3.1)
      Processor Speed:          2.7 GHz
      Number Of CPUs:          2
L2 Cache (per CPU):          512 KB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.35 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          5.2.4f1
      Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-000D9379499E

Lion won't boot or install if there isn't EFI or UEFI firmware.
You can focus on Intel side because that is simple and easier (though because some early "Core Duo" models are cut off from 10.7 and only Core2Duo and above are supported).
There is no firmware support. The logicboard can't.  There is no PowerPC code in Lion, which was the heart of the G5 kernel.
Lion integrates the iPad and other iOS devices with the desktop and iCloud along with Apple's AppStore.   There is a lot of 'something' and what value or benefit it offers to the traditional desktop OS, I think the jury will have to decide.
But 10.4.11 may also be the most optimized Apple OS for the PowerMac platform.
Excellent value on Apple refurbished equipment -

  • I have two Libraries... which is the REAL one?

    Hi all,
In moving from one Mac to another in the process of getting it right I seem to have ended up with two Library folders. They are located:
    1. Macintich HD - System - Library
    and
    2. Macintosh HD - Library
Which is the real one? Which one can I delete?
    Thanks,
    Alex

DO NOT DELETE EITHER ONE OF THEM.
These are both valid OS X folders that your system needs to run. If you look at the contents of each, you will see that they contain different stuff.
There is also a Library folder inside each User home folder, containing things that are unique to each User.

  • Which is the better upgrade: RAM or a fusion drive?

I am on the verge of ordering one of the new iMac models but I find myself in right ole quandary regarding the Fusion Drive. On the one hand it looks like interesting technology and I'm sufficiently geekly to be motivated by that. On the other hand, I am very reluctant to spend £350 for a speed bump of a second or two here and there.  (Yes, it is £350: £200 for the drive, plus £150 extra for the upper end 21.5"). A RAM upgrade seemed a much more sensible option, espeically since this cannot be upgraded later (boo hiss to that!). But then I started thinking: all-flash systems like the MacBook Air have no distinct RAM as such: it's 128 or 256Gb of flash and that's it. So what function does RAM have on a fusion drive system?? Would I not get the same benefits from a fusion drive as I would from a RAM upgrade??
Informed input much appreciated: I am very confused!

    Cameron Paterson wrote:
I see what you mean Martin. They do seem distinct but there is some overlap, isn't there? There is no RAM in a MacBook Air is there? Just a quantity of flash memory....
    <omitted>
Most computers today do not have RAM which is just Random Access Memory, they have Dynamic Random Access Memory or DRAM, but the 'idea' is the same.  DRAM is memory used by the OS and applications for storing objects they are working on in the computers 'memory'.
SSD or flash is flash memory configured to handle 'hard drive' functions.  Compared to hardware disk drives with their inertia latency issues SSD is lightning quick.  The hard drive function is usually referred to as 'storage' and not as 'memory'.
For example, my mid-2011 MacBook Air has 256GB of SSD which is flash memory used as the main disk drive.  It is very fast.  It also has 8GB of DRAM, which is enough for most applications to have room to run without paging to the SSD.  Since paging to SSD is very quick apps that have to page to the SSD run very quickly too.
A fusion drive is one that has a SSD drive 'married' to a hardware drive via software.  Apple's implementation has a 128GB SSD and a 1TB or 3TB hard drive.  The software is designed to keep the most often accessed items stored on the SSD.  So while it is really two drives, a fusion drive for all practical purposes appears as a single drive.  One would have to get to the system level to see it as two drives and Apple has made that very difficult.  Accessing the drives separately is a quick and sure way to hose your system.

  • Which is the better upgrade: EOS 5DS R or EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM?

I have the 5D Mark II with a 100-400 mm lens (the old version). As a wildlife photographer, which would be the better upgrade, the EOS 5DS R or EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM?

I always assumed lens upgrade first. In this case I was impressed by the new features of the 5DS R because I photograph small birds, often in trees, often at a distance of 30-50 feet, and almost always moving around. I thought the 61 point high density reticular AF might be quick enough to get a photo (that my current set up can't get) and with a file that would allow severe cropping which would make up for the distance.
On the other hand, photographing birds in riparian areas where there is usually poor lighting might suggest the better lens is the answer.
That's basically why I thought to ask others.

  • My documents and pictures have been erased from one day to the next

I've closed my macbook pro last thursday without shutting down, the next day when opening again all my documents and pictures have been erased from my files. I cannot find them anywhere, and they are also not in the recycle bin. Has anybody else had this problem recently and does anybody know how I can recover my files? All my pictures from my little son birth from last year until now are gone!

  • Have a true/false template slide. The next button is ghosted and unclickable. Why?

    Hi All.
Using CAPTIVAte 6 Build 01.240 Have added quiz slides at the end of Project. I can see the next button in Filmstrip view.
But when I publish the project next button does not work.  Have looked at Quiz settings and not sure what is happening there. Please help. Wouuld like to know please why this happens?
    Thanks,
    Mel

Actually I beg to differ with Ian here.
The Next button on Quiz slides is indeed normally active as long as the Quiz > Settings > Required option is set to something that does not force the user to answer the question or get it correct before they can move on.
With the Optional setting, the Next button provides a way for the user to move through the questions WITHOUT answering them, whereas if they click the Submit button, the user would be shown a message that said: "You must answer the question before continuing".

  • HT1338 Hi I would like to know which is the correct way to upgrade my imac.

My operating system is Mac OS X 10.4.11 with processor GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 1 GB SDRAM 667 MHzDDR2
    Thanks for the help

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
