HT1338 I'm on 10.5.8 software and need to upgrade to a new version to allow new itunes software to work for my iPhone 5 what software can I get?

What software do I need to use itunes 10. and my iphone 5?

For an iPhone5 you will need iTunes 10.7, not 10.6.3.  Once you have Snow Leopard installed you will need to update it to 10.6.8 in order to install iTunes 10.7
1) Make sure your computer meets Snow Leopard technical specifications - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575  This mostly means making sure it is an Intel Mac and has at least 1GB RAM (at least 2 GB is recommended).  Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Does it mention  "PowerPC" (not Intel), or Intel? To check RAM continue to "More Info...".  It should say you have at least 1GB of "memory".
2) Buy a Snow Leopard disc from Apple online
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard - USA
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard - UK
or telephone Apple. In the USA: (800) 676-2775 (contact information for other countries: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57)
Alternatively you can buy from online retailers but anticipate paying much more than the original price which is the price still charged by Apple
3) Backing up your computer before upgrading is always a good idea.
4) After installing from the DVD, update your Snow Leopard installation using Software Update or manually downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v.1.1 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
If this is a company computer or is used with company software, I suggest you do not upgrade to Mavericks without first checking with your company. Older software may not work with Mavericks. Some of it may need upgrading, and that may be something your company is unwilling to pay for.

I have Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 and need to update to OS X version 10.8 how can I do so?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • I currently have OSX 10.4.11 and need to upgrade my software. I do not have Time Machine yet. My processor is an intel Core 2 duo. Do I have to upgrade to snow leopard 10.6.8 before upgrading to Mavericks?

Assuming your computer has the minimum system requirements yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and then open the Mac App Store and upgrade to Mavericks. You can only get SL 10.6.x from Apple's online store, it is $20. Prior to upgrading to 10.6.x get an external HD and use a utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and make a bootable clone of  your system to safeguard all of your valuable data. In the event you have a problem the backup will be invaluable!!!!!
Considering your computer is at best a 2007 iMac I would STRONGLY recommend upgrading your RAM to 6GB, the maximum a 2007 machine can accommodate. You can buy this from either Crucial or OWC  (www.macsales.com).
Another option is due to the age of your computer is considering buying a newer machine.

I have a MacBook with OS 10.4.11 and need OS 10.5 or newer Software for my Canon Digital camera--- any suggestions?

    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay

  • Like a fool I tried to download the new software for my 3GS. Now oI can't get the dam thing activated. I'm in Portugal but my phone originates from the UK.

Like a fool I tried to download the new software for my 3GS. Now oI can't get the dam thing activated. I'm in Portugal but my phone originates from the UK. Help.

I actually interpreted this as a carrier lock issue.  If that is the case the OP needs to contact the UK carrier who owns the rights to lock the iPhone.  Only that carrier can unlock it.
Was the iPhone unlocked by means of jailbreak software? If that is the case, then the reply from Phil McCafrey would apply to this as well.

  • The software on the iPhone has expired and must be upgraded to a newer version

Been using my iPhone 4 for days with iOS 5.  Got off a call and not it wants be to reactivate for some reason.  so I go to iTunes to reactivate.  It says the "The software on the iPhone has expired and must be upgraded to a newer version" so I click the update button in iTunes and it says it's up to date but still can't activate.  HELP!!!!!

That's because you put a Beta version of iOS 5.0 on your phone. All the iOS 5.0 betas have expired. You'll have to restore your phone in iTunes to re-activate it.

You need to purchase a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM. Run Software Update twice afterwards.
If you're already running Mac OS X 10.6, run Software Update until it gives you the option of installing iTunes 11.

You cannot. Apple does not support downgrading of iOS, there is no supported method to do this.

  • What software can I get for home budgeting?

What softare do you recommend fo use on my New iMac?  I used Microsoft Money on my PC, but it is no longer published or supported.  Since, I am moving to a new computer, I think it is a good time to find another software that is still supported, before I lose all of my financial information.  Any suggestions?

There are some good choices in the App Store. My personal favorite for many years has been MoneyDance. It plays "nice" with all my financial institutions and the latest version has some really nice small enhancements. Another alternative available from the App Store is iBank. It has a bit "glitzier" and in some ways more polished user interface than MoneyDance, but it does not "play nice" with all my financial institutions, but in that case your mileage may vary. There are a number of other lesser options on the App Store but from my experience these two are the heavyweight contenders.

  • What software can I get to completely check returned macbooks?

Does anyone know what software I can purchase for iMac's and macbook's, that have been leased by schools previously and I want to ensure all is working properly before I resell them?
Like pixels, disc drives, etc...?  Thanks!

The best test would be Apple's hardware test.  Another test product would be TechTool Pro. The version linked to looks to be one that can be used to test many systems, as opposed to TechTool Pro 6 that is licensed per system. I don't know if it's functionally the same as TechTool Pro 6, but you can look into if it would meet your needs.

  • HT1338 I have a Mac Desk Top Computer OS X10.5.8. I have a new hp 7525 printer and need to upgrade. Can you help me do this online?

I have a new HP 7525 printer. I have a MAC desk top coputer. It has OS X 10.5.8. I need to upgrade so I can complete the install of my printer. Can I do this online(download a new system) I am also not sure if I need Snow Lepoard, or Mountin Lion. HELP!

You need to have Snow Leopard to get to Mountain Lion. ML is available for download from the Mac App Store.
    The Snow Leopard (10.6.x) upgrade is available only on DVD from here;
    For US; http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    For UK: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Update to 10.6.8 using the combo installer; http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    Snow Leopard 10.6 system requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB RAM (2GB or more preferred)
    5GB available disc space
    DVD drive for installation.
    Lion is still only available from Phone Sales as far as I'm aware;
in the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant; they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store.
    UK sales; 0800 048 0408
If your Mac meets the requirements you can go straight to Mountain Lion from 10.6.8 using the App Store.
    Lion 10.7 system requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon processer
    2GB RAM (4GB minimum recommended)
OS 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available HD space
    Mountain Lion system requirements;
Your Mac must be one of the following models:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminium, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
And meet the same RAM and disc space requirements as Lion.
Many third party applications (and some Apple ones) may need updates for SL (Adobe particularly) and definitely will for Lion/Mountain Lion, so check with the vendors for compatability before you upgrade.
Also, while most legacy PPC apps that run in Leopard will also run in SL under Rosetta, they won't run at all in Lion/ML as Rosetta support has been dropped. That may include drivers for some older peripherals as well as apps like Appleworks or Office 2004 or earlier and many Adobe apps.
For what it's worth, I'd go to 10.6.8 and try the printer. If it works OK, stay there until you have a chance to try the newer OS on someone elses computer. It's not for everyone, as may be attested by the number of requests for info on rolling back to SL.
