is the garageband, iPhoto,iMovie update free, as I have purchase mac book pro last december, I am unable to update it from app store. When I try to do so it says "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it"
I have apple ID but after signing into that account too, it does't allow to update. None of the updates for these application are show in software update of late, but it flashes in the dock where app store is . Kindly suggest.

Should be the account you registered your mac with, and/or the account you used during the setup assistant.

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

  • I have a Mac Book pro 2007 and when I try to start, after logging in it just doesn't open.  The apple symbol shows but it seems to be frozen????

I have a Macbook Pro from 2007 and run Mac OS Lion.  Today it froze and when I tried to restart after log in it just freezes and does not open?  Can anybody help?
    Gunilla

First thing to try, reboot from the Mac OS X install disk that came with your machine.  When it starts up, select your language, then choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  Select your hard drive in the list and then, in the First Aid tab, click Repair Disk (NOT Repair Disk Permissions).  If there were problems that were repaired, try rebooting again and see if the problem is gone.
Alternately, if you have upgraded that machine to Lion (Mac OS X 10.7), you can hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode, and then open Disk Utility from there and do the same repairs.
Let us know what the results are for further assistance, if the problems continue after repairing.

  • Problem updating pre-installed iPhoto and iMovie "to update this application, sign into the account you used to purchase it"

My dad bought a new retina macbook pro over a year ago.
The pre-installed iPhoto and iMovie applicaitons get this error when trying to download an update:
"to update this application, sign into the account you used to purchase it"
We are logged into the only account that he has ever had.
    He has mountain lion.
It's very annoying and there's no way we know of to get around it. Searching and searching online led nowhere.
    Please help!!!!!

    You cannot.
As requested... You need to use the SAME Apple ID that Originally made the Purchase of whatever Application you are trying to Update.

I have updates for iMovie and iPhoto but when I try to update them through App Store I'm told that "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." even though I bought it and it is on my iMac! Any suggestions on what I need to do?

    Hi...
Delete both apps using this utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
That will delete the apps and all associated files.
Then re download the apps. That will download the most recent version updates included.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • When trying to update applications, where can you find an account you used to purchase the application?

The App Store has had the little red notification saying I have two new updates to download, for iPhoto and iMovie, but when I go to download them it says "please log into the account you used to purchase the application." I am not sure which account this would be, as I have only had one account on my computer since I purchased it from the Apple Store online.
    Please help.
Also, a side note not related to this issue: I have been having problems with system preferences as well, when trying to change the background image the rainbow starts spinning automatically and then it becomes unresponsive.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, I suppose that you bought a brand-new Mac, right? If not, you won't be able to update iPhoto and iMovie, because they are registered to another Apple ID.
If you have a brand-new Mac, first try this > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4236 If it doesn't work, check that iPhoto and iMovie aren't hidden on your account, so unhide them > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928 After doing this, try updating iPhoto and iMovie again.
If nothing works, contact with the App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact
Respecting to your second problem, your Desktop settings file is corrupted. To fix it, follow these steps:
    1. While you are on Desktop without any application opened, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences.
    2. Delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart

  • I cant update my apps.  I just get this message.  Any help is appreciated.  To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.

Upgraded to OX Mt Lion and the app store wants to update iMovie and iPhoto.  When I hit the update button I get this message.
To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.

    So do it.

  • Trying to update pixelmator. Anytime I try it tellsme "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it." ???????? I have entered my account password several times and nothing happens. Any hints?

I just sign in  to my account (the oprevious one, with which I bought Pixelmator was hacked and I changed the Password)
Now,anityme I try to update Pixelmator (V. 2.1) the app store tells me "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
It simply does not work. Any hints?
    Thanks for your help.

It used to be that Spotlight had to create an index for the boot volume with the /Applications folder in order for the App Store Update option to work properly. I had a habit of disabling Spotlight for all volumes by adding disk volume names to the Do Not Index list under the Privacy tab in the Spotlight System Preferences panel, so App Store never let me update apps until I turned Spotlight back on. I turned it on until I was able to update the apps, then I'd turn it off again.
I'm currently faced with the same error message (Login with the account you used to buy the free package) but Spotlight is turned on. Apple really goes out of its way to not tell you what account you used to buy something. That's not supposed to be a big deal, I only have a couple accounts. But when I tried them all, App Store refused to let me update using ANY of them.
It's just Xcode. I can just delete the darn thing and buy it again (all 4 GB of it), but this is really annoying!

  • I keep getting an error message that reads "to update application sign into the account you used to purchase it"   I am trying to download Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9  I am signed in with the account that I purchased Final cut Pro X   I don't have another acco

I keep getting an error message that reads "to update application sign into the account you used to purchase it"
I am trying to download Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9
I am signed in with the account that I purchased Final cut Pro X
I don't have another account I'm not sure what's going on

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open the Mac App Store and go to Purchases. Do you see Final Cut Pro X listed?
If so, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete Final Cut Pro X. Then, go to the Mac App Store and download Final Cut Pro X for free.
If you don't see it in Purchases, see if it's hidden, and if so, unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928 If it doesn't work, contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact

    Dear Brother David,
You are way out of order and actually just wrong and seem to lack any empathy or understanding for users, let alone anything other than text book/google regurgitations.
I thank you for highlighting your illusions of granduer  and for your wonderful, thoughful and intelligent insults.
I re- post a fix below that worked for me:
As a user and you may find this bug, you can either ring apple or try the below,
All my apps now appear in the purchases section of App store and iMovie also updated itself.
I have only one ID software is presinstalled and software was "not hidden" or even showing...I just got various error messages and ID errors.
It was not spotlight indexing either.
    cheers

Re: App Store: says You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software - when it came with the computer!!

I had a similiar problem that I fixed doing this:
    Close Mac App Store
    Go into this folder
    /Library/Application Support/App Store
Drag this file to the desktop
    adoption.plist
Repen Mac App Store and log in
If it fixes your problem, great, if not, you can move the old adoption.plist file back"

  • When i try to update iPhoto, it says sign in to the account you used to purchase it

when i try to update iPhoto, it says sign in to the account you used to purchase it and does not update. what can i do?

Did you buy this machine used or "open box" by any chance?
The free iLife suite is tied to the AppStore now and copy protected, so if OS X was wiped off the drive and iLife reinstalled from AppStore, it's registered to the person owning the AppleID that installed it.
Even if the machine gets transfered to a new owner and had a copy of free iLife like other software Apple bundles with OS X,  it can't be updated without the original AppleID.
Surprising Steve Jobs said that copy protection won't work when dealing with the music labels, but on the other hand copy protects everything on AppStore instead of by developer choice instead.
There is certainly a case for copy protection in certain cases, but no to the point it's on everything and becomes a problem for everyone.
Your solution to this problem is either use the original AppleID or delete iPhoto and purchase it from AppStore with your AppleID.
Your pictures are stored it the Pictures/iPhoto Library and will remain if you delete the program.
If you wish not to use iPhoto, and need to get your pictures out, right click on the iPhoto Library and "show package contents" ot get to the Origianls folder.
    Good Luck

  • Error message To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it - what do i do?

To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it. - I get this message for a couple of the apps that were installed from original

Take a look at this ..  .Troubleshooting the Mac App Store
You have to update an app using the same ID as was used when it was purchased.   If a family member or friend downloaded the app originally, then you must use the same ID as they used.
