HT1338 Java Plug in not working?

I have re-installed java several times and can not get the plug in to work.  So frustrating.

Hi mommaduckof2,
Have you tried downloading this Java update?   Hopefully it will help ....
Java for OS X 2013-003
The article below explains what this update does:
About Java for OS X 2013-003
This release updates the Apple-provided system Java SE 6 to version 1.6.0_45 and is for OS X versions 10.7 or later.
This update uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled "Missing plug-in" to go download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.
This update also removes the Java Preferences application, which is no longer required to configure applet settings.
Cheers,
Judy

  • Java plug-in not working in multi-server instance

I am having problems getting the Sun Java plug-in to work
when attempting to use the Browse Server button within the CF
Administrator for directory browsing features such as the Code
    Analyzer, Verity Collections,etc., in a multi-server instance
setup. The plug-in works fine within the first instance. For all
the other instances (2 through n), the Java plug-in doesn't do
anything except show an image of a sun with the words Java Sun
Microsystems with the rays of the sun going around and round.
We are using CFMX 7.0.1 with the Sun Java plug-in 1.5.0_06.
Anyone else experience this problem before?

First, you need to get off of Java 1.5 and back to 1.4.2. 1.5
isn't supported yet and breaks stuff.
Secondly, you need to make sure RDS is enabled on all of your
    instances.

Well, I don't think I will join the debate about Java, but a temporary fix to enable Java (I know, it is a security hazard, however I don't have another option as I have to use the Juniper SSL VPN network connect client).
    So,
    1. close Safari
    2. Open a terminal
    3. sudo vi /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta. plist
    4. Find the string MinimumPlugInBundleVersion
    5. Just under that line you should see the version. Change the last portion of the number from 19 to 1.
    6. Save and exit
    7. Start up Safari and you should work. You must keep in mind that this file may be updated by Apple again, so this is only temporary and should only be done if you *must* use your current version of Java.
    best of luck....

NOTe: I didn't write this but have the same problem, haven't tried it either, as I use a javascript to download videos from you tube that doesn't work.  Apparently, Apple disabled the plug-in because some sheetbirds are using the vulnerability to break into Apple Users computers.   My suggention it to wait and let Apple deal with, if you need capability, the above seems to work based on the responses from macrumors.  Like I said earlier I haven't tried it so use at your own risk.  It ooks like a simple change, just a flag, change it, do your business, then reset the flag back to 19 or better yet, save the plist file to .plist.old and rename it when you are done.

  • Java Plug-in not working with WinXP SP2 Registry Key Missing Error Pop-Up

I have WinXp PRO with SP2 and the Oct 12 Security Update Patch for SP2 loaded and I went to my Control Panel and saw that the JavaRuntime Environment 1.4.2_04 icon was missing and when I went to click the Java Plugin icon to Open it, I got the following message in a Error Pop-Up window:
The system cannot find the registry key specified:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java pPlug-in\1.4.2_04\JavaHome
I then went to Chage Access Program Controls and when I clicked on the Change box for the program, it wanted me to re-install the whole environment.
Prior to doing this, and potentially screwing up my MS winXp environment, I went to the Sun support page for Java Plug-in and I did get the dancing elmo appear as they said I would but I noticed that my environment was MS VM, not Java and that I was out of date and a newer update was avaliable.
The downloads page for the plug-in states clearly that it supports WinXp SP1 and NOT SP2.
SO, my question is, do I need to re-install anything or wait till the whole SP2 issue and java with (BITS) issue gets resolved and just use the MS VM engine during my browsing time? Is there a workaround and what impact will this have on my system? I am not developing Java Apps but am a Power user in Windows who is wondering if applets and general browsing might be easier, faster and more fluid if the Java Runtime was enabled as opposed to the MS VM solution?
Any ideas or thoughts on this very timely issue would be greatly appreciated as I see others have tried to post related issues but none that succinctly combines what I have asked for here in this post.
    Thanks from NYC -Phil

did you know that XP SP2 has so many technical problems? try SP1 or contact the WindowsXP Vendor

Your question doesn't make much sense, so this is a WAG. Launch the Java Preferences.app in /Utilities, install the Java Runtime Environment when prompted, and, when that's finished, enable Java and Web Start apps.

  • Could not find an installed JDK, SCM Java Tools may not work until registry

    Hello all,
I've downloaded the latest full version of Designer (10.1.2.3), but getting installation error: Could not find an installed JDK, SCM Java Tools may not work until registry
    Any solution?

    3. install the Designer 10.1.2.3 patch to the Developer suite home. When I try to do this at C:\oracle\product\Ora10gDSR2, I get a message OUI-10137: An Oracle Home with name OUIHome already exits at C:\OraHome (a directory that doesn't exist) please specify another name for Oracle Home.
I don't want to just specify another name because cleaning up these faulty installations requires deleting registry keys, etc, since the deinstall does't really remove everything sufficiently to start with a clean slate.
I also got the Java JDK message because the JDK 5 is no longer being put straight onto the C drive, it is buried in C:\Sun\SDK\jdk, so some java programs have to be pointed to it. The Oracle installer doesn't provide this option.
Also, Michael, your post, "Re: Designer 10.1.2.3 on windows Xp Posted: Oct 20, 2007 7:05 AM in response to: mmehdi" is full of unreadable characters and question marks. Maybe I don't have a font you are using. There are also references to a zip file and a Word document that aren't there.
Anyway, thanks for all your time and effort,
    Edward

  • Accidentally deleted x protect meta.plist and plug in not working even after downloading latest

    Hi all
Need some help here. It started off like this - after upgrading to mavericks, i had a problem viewing some java stuff. Googled and read somewhere to delete the x protect meta.plist and thus, did so. After doing that, my youtube videos etc all couldnt work. So googled again and did whatever the rest suggested - download latest version of Java, uninstall java and reinstall again, install other versions of java etc etc. all didnt worked.
Someone just pointed out that I had deleted a very critical security file (x protect meta.plist) and might have more problems that I thought on my hand.
Im not very technical or IT saavy, so please kindly advise. Most of the problems surfaced after deleting that file. And right now, plug in for videos are still not working even though I have attempted various 'solutions' suggested in this forum (the not too technical ones) and java is still cranky. Pls advise. thanks!

    Anyone able to help?
    1) How did u solve the missing/out of date plugin?
    - Have tried installing numberous times the latest version - doesnt work
    - Tried uninstalling and then reinstalled earlier versions of java - doesnt work too
read somewhere to delete the xprotect meta plist - realised much later that piece of advice was for snow leopard OS and thus, did not work too. A forummer told me today this file is a critical security file and i should not have deleted it. WHat can I do now?
    current situation:
still cant play youtube videos and other videos.
java on some sites still cant work

  • Java Plug in not loaded

    Hi,
I'm using JPI 1.4.0 on IE 5.0 on a Windows 98 environment.. I have a really simple applet working with appletviewer ... I converted for Java Plug in using HTML Converter ... when I run the applet on my browser the page is succesfully loaded ( no ClassdefFoundError detected by JavaConsole ) but no applet appears.
Any help will be appreciated ...

There could be a lot of reasons why you're not seeing your applet. Here are a few:
    1) Do you see a little yellow icon on the lower left corner of the browser, if so click on it to see what the error message is.
    2) Otherwise, click View (from the menu) and select Java Console (this requires that Java Console is enabled) to see if there is any error message there.
    3) Perhaps you applet doesn't require a Java plugin and therefore do not need to be converted with the HTMLConverter.
If after having checked all of the above and you still have problem, try my applet FAQ page at:
    http://home.attbi.com/~aokabc/appletFAQ/applet.htm
    Hope this helps...

  • Java and Flash not working ONLY in Safari

Ok, so Java and flash stopped working in Safari on my 10.6.8 system. It seems a recent update caused a problem and all of the normal items I have gone through have made it worse or not helped.
Java is not working in Safari (My account or guest account)
http://javatester.org/version.html    Error "attempted to load Java content, but Java is unavailable or not installed."
http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp " attempted to load Java content, but Java is unavailable or not installed."
         http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/  Error "Missing plugin"
Flash tests just say missing plugin
Java DOES work in Chrome and Firefox
         http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
              Java SE 6 Update 31
              Flash - 11,2,202,235 installed
Able to use apps and other items online that are not working in Safari.
Have downloaded and installed the following and done the following
         Ran software update
Verified Java and Java Script are enabled via Safari > Preferences > Security
         Re-installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8
         Reinstalled current version of flash
Looked around and deleted all plist, and java folders in library locations (user and main system)
         Cleared out metadata folders
         Reset Safari several times
         Java Preferences
              Cleared all cache
Made sure no old versions there (2 entereis)
              Reset all defaults
              Removed any blocked items
    Current Java version per terminal
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_31"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_31-b04-415-10M3646)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.6-b01-415, mixed mode)
So - Java is up and working - works in Chrome and Firefox. Have reinstalled both from current versions. Reset all browser cache. Issue follows Safari. Normally installing these and trying again works. I do not know what other things to reset or clear out.

Yes, I got distracted for a moment with something, came back and I didn't finish reading the OP's original post, I have since edited mine.
BTW, the Mozilla plug-in checker is basically useless for Safari users, since have of those I have have no status, but work in Safari:
I don't know the causes for the "Research" one's, why there isn't a link or why it doesn't update the checker,
But at least it's infomative, as vulnerable plug-ins are responsible for MacDefender and Flashback malware attacks.
Someone with a lot of plug-ins should be running Firefox and NoScript, as your very exposed to multiple attack vectors from any of those plug-ins, which is the purpose of the web site, to get the word out about outdated plug-ins with potential security issues.
