MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch left speaker not as loud as the right all daignostics have been done as well as the balance fromsystem pref pane is in the center still no luck even the PRAM was reset for a machine thats less than 3 weeks old! Called in apple support but no luck have been told to take it in for repairs all i want is value for my buck and time did not pay for a machine to have its second repair in less than 3 weeks first repair was the top case due to the keyboard being missaligned and now the left speaker not as loud as the right RIDICOLOUS NEVER HAD SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH APPLE PRODUCTS! WOULD ADVISE TO REFRAIN FROM RETINA 13 INCH WASTE OF MONEY! Bought second week of february 2013 ! QUESTION IS WHAT CAN BE DONE ON APPLE PART??? THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE MACHINE AS ITS MORE THAN 2 WEEKS OLD AND WANT ME TO WASTE MY TIME AS A STUDENT GOING AROUND THEIR APPLE STORE WHICH DO NOT PROVIDE FOR A PROPER SERVICE ALWAYS "WE'LL REPAIR IT" WTH!! I DONT WANT A REPAIRED LAPTOP AGAIN AND AGAIN SINCE I DID NOT PAY FOR ONE I EXPECTED IT TO BE TROUBLE FREE NOT TROUBLESOME ??!!?? Adjusting the Audio MIDI solved my problem thanks! What exactly caused the problem for me is unknown. Over the weekend, I did use iMovie, DivX, and audio spliter and I did connect to a pretty sophisticated audio system. One of those things surely was the gremlin.

I had same problem.
After installing, respectively Mountain Lion and Lion, the same error came again in both instalations. I tryed to replace the hard disk, and installed again, but the same error came up.
BUT now have two days running with Windows 8 on it and it run perfectly. I installed from boot camp and has not opened OX again.
So it is quite obvious that Apple has fixed it well enough. Windows cant haddel hardware issue better.

HT1338 macbook pro retina webcam poor quality

I am very happy with my MacBook Pro Retina Display.
However, the webcan produces very poor image quality, feels like out of focus. (using facetime, imessage, skype, all software the same)
I went back to my Macbook pro 2011 version, the same 720p webcam, produces very clear picture.
I read quite a few people having this issues but looks no firm answer. I hope its a software issue.
I wonder if Apple is looking into this problem.

Yes, I have recently noticed the exact same issue. RMBP has very poor webcam quality and is certainly not 720p (HD) display.
I have compared it to my desktop webcam, a logitech (HD720p camera) and images were by far much more superior for my logitech webcam.
I hope they do a software fix on the cameras.

My macbook pro retina's right speaker is not playing and sound but my left one is, is that supposed to happen?

This is the first Retina before the new one came out, it's the 13". When I play a video, sound is only coming out of the left side, is that supposed to happen or is both the speakers supposed to work and play at the same time? Thanks

Unless that is the way it was recorded, you should hear from both speakers.
Try going to system preferences/sound, output tab and make sure the balance slider is set to the center.
If still no joy try a pram reset:
Power off, power back on holding the following keys:
OPTION COMMAND P R
Continue to hold these keys till yu hear the start chime 2 times , then release, reboot.
If still no joy and your machine is less than 1 year (an addtional 2 years if you purchased AppleCare) bring it in for a diagnosis, you are still under warranty, andthey should repair it as long it is not due to accidental damage, or liquid damage.
If you are ot of warranty, you can still bring it in, and the disgnosis will will be free, they will then give you your options.

Retina Macbook Pro 13 inch late 2013 left speaker louder than right

I was using my macbook pro and i noticed that the left speaker is louder than the right one. I checked the sound settings and it is set to the middle but the right one is still very faint.

If you have anything open at the time the shut down is taking place, yes.
Nothing opened on both computers.
If you have anything connected other than power to the computer, yes.
Nothing connected. Onply plugged and with Wifi Internet connection both.
If your hard drive is very full, yes.
My MacBook has more things that my new MacBook Pro Retina in the hard drive.
Repairing permissions can help. Non-Apple utilities can hinder it.
Apple Care staff did did that told me that and we did it with no result

Question 1-maybe so . What you have is called "screen burn in" and might be the result of having the same image left on a screen for a long period of time. See if running a screensaver or something else that has moving images will erase it, or lessen it *
Question 2- yes, if Apple deems that the problem is serious enough that the only way to fix it is to replace your Macbook Pro. otherwise, it will repair

Left shift key of my new macbook pro retina 13 is always pressed.

My 1 month old macbook pro retina 13 inch model has a problem now. Left shift key is always pressed which results in booting to safe mode.
Currently i have overcome the issue by pressing "option" while booting and used keyremap software to disable "left shift key". Since this a temporary solution, I would like to know what would have caused the shift key to behave like this. If the key not working would have been better, but it is always in pressed state.
Please let me know what I can do to rectify this. If keyboard to be replaced, approximately how much it will cost for the same? I am looking for a positive response....

Hi BobRz, you are probably talking about the screen display which normaly dims during low light conditions, and that's true. but my concern is the keyboard brightness, it suppose to increase in low light conditions, but instead it dims to the point that i can no longer see the letters on the keyboard. I recommend you to run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 It's possible that something is damaged, and Apple Hardware Test will help you finding it. Make sure you tick the option to run an extended test, and connect your Mac to the charger.
If your Mac came with DVDs, you have to insert the Mac OS X DVD to run Apple Hardware Test. As you haven't got the SuperDrive, you will have to buy an external optical drive

My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows). The key behaves the same for the laptop keyboard and for an external Apple keyboard? This just started in last week after 6 months of use

This just started in last week after 6 months of use. The right shift key and other keys on the keyboard all appear to work correctly.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support. Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences. Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key). I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility. The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.

TS5296 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad unresponsive

Brand new Macbook PRO Retina 15inch. (1 day old) Running 10.9
EFI 1.2 installed.
Keyboard/trackpad hangs when using the left USB.
The EFI update 1.3 apparently fixes this issue for the 13inch macbook pro.
I have a 15inch macbook pro. The EFI update 1.2 does not resolve this issue for me.
Whenever I plug something into the left USB, after the 2nd or 3rd time, the keyboard and trackpad become unresponsive. To get the keyboard/trackpad back again, I must restart the machine.

I cannot install the EFI update 1.3 as I get an alert "This software is not supported on your system." I assume because it was made only for the 13inch.
Is this a hardware or firmware issue? If it's only firmware, why does this issue only affect some users? If it's hardware, should I just return this macbook?

I can reproduce the behavior at will. I just have to plug in the tablet on the left USB board, reboot the tablet, disconnect the cable and reconnect. At that moment the trackpad and keyboard will both freeze.

Disconnecting the tablet doesn't resolve the issue. A reboot does. I still have to try if the workaround posted by Apple for the MBP-13 Late 2013 (close the lid and reopen after a few minutes) would work here too.
