HT1338 MacBook Pro went down - tried reinstalling with back up disk - not work - help!!!!

As above???????????????????

That error occurs when the Windows Scheduler fails.
Try to use System Restore first.
If that doesn't fix the problem,
Run the Vista System File Checker Tool:
1. Open a Command Window in Administrator mode:
* click Start
* click All Programs, then Accessories
* right click on the Command Prompt option,
* on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administrator option.
* If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.
2. Start the System File Checker
* In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow,
* press Enter.
* You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.
The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.

  • TS1440 A flashing question mark appeared when I started my MacBook Pro, I've tried all the suggestions and nothing has worked. How can I back up my current files so I can reinstall Mavericks?

    I recently did a manual reboot after my MacBook Pro had frozen, and instead of the usual Apple and loading icon, it gave me the flashing question mark on a folder, which I've never encountered before. I looked up some possible reasons on my PC, and after reading that there's a problem with my HD I tried looking up how to back up my files so that I can do a clean reinstall of Yosemite (latest ver.). However, I've never used anything like Time Machine or anything else that could back up all my files, so it didn't sound like I could do anything about that at this point. I've also tried going into Disk Utility and attempting to repair the disk image. There was only 2 available, disk0 and the base system. I verified the base system, and told me there was nothing wrong (it didn't give me the option to repair anything either, on both available options). I don't think this is the right thing though, since my drive was called MacBook Pro HD. So basically this is the point I'm at now. Is there anything I can do that will repair my HD without erasing all my files?

    Hold the option key on boot to see if you can select your Macintosh HD.

  • Does the 15 " MacBook Pro from late 2011 come with a os disk?

    I am looking into a new hard drive for my Mac book pro 2011 version because mine died but I was reading shouldn't have my Mac came with the os disk for a reinstall? I'm looking for it and can't find it I known I didn't  miss place it because i have had no use for it until now. Can any one help me in getting a new disk or something simpler?

    Actually the Late 2011's came with the horrible OS X Lion 10.7 and a ability to install OS X on a blank drive by holding the command option and r keys down on a wired Ethernet/Internet connection. (Internet Recovery)
    The command r held at boot is for Recovery HD, which is on a partition on the boot drive, which yours is obviously blank.
    Once you get Lion on it, and get to AppStore, you can upgrade to worst OS X Mountian Lion 10.8 from there or redownload it by loggin in with your AppleID.
    There is a way to shoehorn OS X 10.6 onto that machine (fastest and runs older PPC software) if your interested.

  • Macbook pro very slow at startup, with often "repair disk" demand

    I have a mid2009 15'' macbook pro. I have an issue of it being veery slow and some times non-responsive for no reason. It also takes a considerable extended time to startup.
    I use only 35-40% of the HD, i have the least posible apps opening at startup, i keep desktop clean etc.
    Another thing that is strange is that very often when i perform VERIFY DISK, most times it sais i need to repair from partition (can happen even every day or two)
    Is my disk failing? Is there any way to test it?
    Note: My optical drive is not working any more (like the drive of every mac owner after 2-3 years ) so i cant use the Hardware Test Cd.Is there any other way?

    Use an external drive.

  • Just started my new Macbook Pro, from Time Machine backup and the password is not working

    Just got home with my new mackbook pro, and going through the startup process I booted from a time machine back up of my 2007 macbook. When I got to the login part of the process, after the new macbook was registered and ready to go, and now my password is not recognized.

    Sorry about that.
    I just got done posting back and forth with someone with a similar problem (not exact).
    Turn the power off by holding down the power button, that is if just one push does not turn it off.
    Then turn it back on and hold down the Option key. That will give you a startup screen where you can select which partition on the drive to boot into. Select the Recovery partition. From there you can use Disk Utility to wipe the Macintosh partition of the drive and then do a reinstall of the OS from the Apple website.
    You need a internet connection to do this and depending on your internet speed it can take a few hours to complete. If you have a fairly fast internet connection it may still take 1-2 hours to download the 3.5+GB file to do the reinstall.
    Before you go through all this try turning the system off and back on a few time to see if Lion can recover on it's own. I doubt it but it's worth a shot.
    Again sorry for the condescending tone.
    Happy New Year.

  • My Macbook Pro Retina's USB port on the right side not working at all

    Dear all,
    I received my macbook pro 15inch with retina display a week ago, but not until today had I got the chance to use the USB port on the right side, only to find out that it is not connecting to anything at all. I have tried to use my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 with two different cables, my USB thumb drive, and my Blackberry 9900, none of them are charging nor shown in iTunes/Finder. All of above works on the left and on other windows machines too.
    I'm also not able to charge my Blackberry with the usb port on the left side, thought it would pop up a message saying "charging not supported" on the phone.
    For you information, I have applied both updates including the one released few days ago. I have also tried to reset the PRAM. Also, I have migrated from my old late 2008 13inch unibody Macbook using Migration Assistant, not sure if this would affect anything.
    I'm aware that there have been reports and discussions regarding the USB port not been able to run devices on 3.0 speed, but I wonder if anyone else have the same problem with me, where the port simply not connecting to anything at all?

    I also have a problem with the USB port on the right side of my Retina MBP.  The USB3.0 port on the left side works fine, even with high speed external SSD enclosures, like the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G which enables me to copy large files at a sustained rate of 160-170MB/sec.  Wow USB3.0 and the Mercury SSD is a FAAAAST combination connected to the Retina MBP.
    However, like the forum entries about the USB3.0 ports in general on the new Retina MBP, the USB3.0 port on the RIGHT side is plagued with dropping intermittently, disconnecting my external hard drives while copying large files AS WELL AS disconnecting while just sitting there connected to an external hard drive and doing nothing.
    Therefore, since I don't feel like returning my Retina MBP and waiting weeks for a replacement, I have chosen to only use the left side USB3.0 port for now.
    I have my suspicions about why the right side USB port might be more problematic than the left side one.  I found this older post on the internet about how "Not all USB ports are created equal on MacBooks..." that talks about how on older models of MacBooks one of the USB ports shares a USB hub with multiple other devices like the iSight camera etc. therefore making it less tolerant of heavy traffic or something like that.  (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/05/the-macbook-all/)
    Therefore, I wonder if the right side USB port is sharing a USB internal hub where-as the left side one is more 'dedicated' and therefore in my case able to handle the high speed transfers/traffic I am throwing at it with my external SSDs.
    I have also read that USB3.0 in general, on non-Macs, has had trouble for years.  For instance, some forum entries on Apple Support Communities and other non-Apple forums has made mention that 'they' are not surprised at the problems encountered on USB3.0 external hard drives connected to the Retina MBP because Windows laptops have had a lot of flakey problems with USB3.0 for 'years'.
    Also, I have recently purchased a "Buffalo" external Thunderbolt 1TB drive from OWC and have been doing Clones onto that drive for several weeks.  I use SuperDuper to clone >600GB of data on my 768GB Retina MBP several times a week.  And, I have (knock on wood) not had any problems with the stability of my externally connected Thunderbolt drive.
    So, in my case, I am racking it up to high-speed stresses on the USB3.0 ports at least in part...and perhaps the possibility that the LEFT side USB port on the Retina MBP is more dependable and/or a more dedicated USB port than the right side one.
    This doesn't really solve your problem, but it may at least help you feel like you are not alone.

  • I just took my new MacBook Pro out of the box and the screen will not work. Display is, black no life to the screen at all

    So I just ordered my first Mac book Pro. I took it out of the box and hit the power button to do the start up and the screen will not work at all. I shut the computer off and back on again. I plugged it in and unplugged it. I've done everything I can think of and the screen still stays blank with no life at all

    Is the battery charged? Press the little button on the left edge, near the front. If no green dots, no charge.
    Does it charge? When you connect the MagSafe charger, does the pilot light on the plug light up?
    Does it actually start? Should sound a chime after you press the power button on the top/right corner. If it chimes, does the Caps Lock pilot light when you press it?
    If it starts and Caps Lock does flash on and off, have you tried pressing the screen brightness control for awhile? F2 turns up the brightness, may be turned fully down.

  • MacBook Pro Trackpad-Zoom under firefox 5.0.1 is not working

    Working with a macbook pro, my 2-fingers-trackpad-zoom is not working anymore on the web under firefox 5.0.1. (but in general, on all other surfaces of the computer it is working perfectly fine) - what happened? How can I change it?

    I have just had the same issue after upgrading from snow leopard to Lion Mac OS x 10.7 with firefox 5.0.1... Not sure why as the Browser didn't change. I was also annoyed by the change in two finger trackpad scroll direction which I discovered was configurable by un-checking [System Preferences>Hardware>Trackpad<scroll&zoom>scroll direction:neutral].
    Correction for the trackpad pinch zoom issue was a little more complex, you will need to re-configure firefox as follows:
    # in the firefox url type >about:config >and press return accepting the warning
    # Ctrl F should bring up a search box, type >browser.gestures
    # either double click or right click to modify the following with these values:
    # browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce
    # browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    # browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
    # browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    All should start working immediately without the need to restart Firefox.
    I don't think the zoom is as smooth as it was before....
    Hope this helps someone...
    Oops forgot number 5 and corrected a spelling error....
    5 browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> false

  • My ipod touch has frozen with a white screen. None of the buttons will work to turn it off or take any action. Holding down buttons for 10 seconds plus does not work.Help

    My ipod touch has frozen with a white screen. The on/ff and sleep buttons will not work whether pressed for a moment or held for more than 10 seconds as per help pages. When connected to computer it is not recognised and no indication in "devices".It has been working perfectly from Christmas until now. Was watching a TV prog via BBC iplayer when the image and sound froze for about 5 seconds then just white screen. Help

    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

    I have a new iMac and trying to install Windows 7 Pro using boot camp. I have reached the stage of starting to load windows from the DVD then discovered the mouse and the keyboards not working so I could not interact with windows installation.

    Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
    Format the partition as NTFS.

  • IMac ichat to macbook pro ichat and vice versa: audio/video call/chat not working

    Hi and thanks for your time!

    invite to video/audio chat under buddies list are grayed out even if buddy highlighted first.
    also tried changing port to 443 but when I do it automatically goes back to 5190...
    also, i've tried logging off/on, deleting my account and making a new one...
    basically followed suggestions from various threads herein but still cant video/audi chat/call:-)
    hope somebody can help^^

    Hi,
    Lets check a few more things.
    Some things are blocked from you changing them if the Mac User Account you are using has Parental Controls turned On.
    To Show Buddies with Video and Audio icons several places should be checked.
    1) with iChat Open go to the View Menu. In here both Show Video Status and Show Audio Status should be ticked  (Selecting it will toggle the tick On or Off)
    2) In the Video Menu the Camera Enabled item and the Microphone Enabled one should also have ticks.
    3) (we Looked already) The Connection Doctor should say you can Video or Audio Chat as well as whether you can 4 way Video chat and 10 Way Audio Chat.
    4) In the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section the Bandwidth Limit should not be set too low.
    At least the 500kbps setting is needed to do 4 Way Video Chats.
    It can also be useful to use this setting if your Internet Connection is much faster but varies a lot.
    5) Parental Controls will stop you Adding Buddies, adding new Screen Names/Accounts in the iChat Preferences, altering several things about existing Accounts/Screen Names that have been set up.
    If a Buddy has a Video or Audio iCon and it is a pale green them they are Busy.
    If 1) are set then you should have an Video icon next to your Own Buddy pic in the header part of the Buddy List window. (Whether it shows Audio or Video will depend on 2)
    What shows in 3) will depend on the other settings and what Internet Speed and hardware you actually have.
    6) IF the settings are On for the camera then we need to know if the System can "See" the camera.
    Go to the Apple icon Menu top Left.  Click About this Mac.
    Click More info to Open the System Profiler
    Use the Reveal Triangles to see the Hardware list then USB.
    Does this list the Camera connected to one of the Buses ?  (you may need to click the items in the panes on the right to see the info you need)
    It should list the details such as serial number, Maker, Firmware (possibly) and speed.

  • Macbook freezes on start up, diskwarrior and/or tiger disks not working

    Hi,
    My laptop slowed whilst I was accessing my wireless modem via the ethernet cable, it wouldn't restart and I waited an hour, but no luck, so I held down the power button to turn off.
    Upon turning it on again I got the grey screen, then the apple with the turning 'clock' graphic, which stays for about 4 mins, then shows the 'stop' sign, and flashes up a message saying 'you need to restart your computer'.
    I have tried restarting it several times, the same thing happens. Once, I got the icon with the ? and the folder, but this disappeared and the 'stop' sign reappears.
    I tried to boot from the os x 10.4 installation CD, by holding c when restarting. It will not boot from this.
    I then tried disk warrior, holding c to boot from cd. It will not boot from this.
    Is there anything I can try? I think my computer memory was a little too full when it broke down (about 90%), but not sure if this is relevant.
    If anyone can help me to at least get my stuff off the laptop I'd be very grateful indeed!

    cadorette:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Is there anything I can try? I think my computer memory was a little too full when it broke down (about 90%), but not sure if this is relevant.
    I suspect that part of your issue may be due to a too full HDD which may have resulted in a corrupted directory/filesystem. Unfortunately you are not able to boot from Disk Warrior or the install disk to run diagnostics and repairs. Your first priority is to secure your data. Using firewire target disk mode as suggested by BDAqua is your best bet, if your MacBook supports firewire.
    Next try checking the filesystem using the method described in the article Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck.
    And finally, your computer usage suggests that you might need more storage capacity. I suggest that you consider installing a larger capacity HDD. This is something you can very likely do yourself. If you are interested in this approach don't hesitate to post back for suggestions and directions.
    Good luck.
