HT1338 mail will not go online

I did an update several weeks ago and now my mail keeps requesting a keychain. I enter the proper password yet it still does not work. I tried everything to reset the keychain and the mail will still not work. I need some step by step help.

  • My mail will not go online.

I have tried to take it online. I have checked the outgoing and incoming settings. It's not working for my AOL mail or my work email, both of which come into my MacBook Pro's mail server. When I click on the lightning icon next to the dimmed gray mailbox name, it says: The server returned the error: The connection to the server “rutlandhs.k12.vt.us” on port 110 timed out" for my work one and "The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.aol.com” on port 993 timed out" for my AOL account. PLEASE HELP!!

Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

  • Mail will not go "online"

my mail has been offline recently. i have restarted, entered my password correctly, etc. -- but my imac keeps telling me the password is wrong. not sure what to do. help. thank you.

Have you logged in to your .Mac account via webmail access using a browser such as Safari? If not, do so which provides a network status for all available services.
I didn't mention anything about extra space.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access. Launch the Keychain Access application. I don't recall the steps for running Keychain First Aid on your login Keychain with 10.3 since it is slightly different with 10.4 but search Keychain Access Help with Keychain First Aid for instructions.
Regarding Network Port Configurations, go to System Preferences > Network. At Show, select Network Port Configurations.
Make sure the Built-in Ethernet configuration is at the top of the list. If not, select and drag it to the top of the list. Deselect any other available network port configurations not being used to turn them off such as Airport if you have an Airport card installed on your Mac and Internal Modem unless you receive and send faxes with your Mac.

That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

2009 MacBook Pro eh? It looks like your hard drive has failed. Three years is pretty standard. Often, then only hint you have is catastrophic failure.
If you put the old hard drive into an external enclosure or similar device, you may still be able to migrate your data from it. Just because it won't boot doesn't mean you can't still read from it. Still, I wouldn't keep trying it. As long as you are buying a new hard drive, may as well get sometime to use with Time Machine too.

  • HT1338 I have hand this Mac for 4 years. Today for the first time mail will not do anything when I hit send. It is receiving but it will not send. Can anyone help?

I have an IMac running on 10.6.8 and today for the first time mail will not do anything when I hit send. Can anyone help out there?

Check your Window menu -> Activity menu to see if anything is really not happening.  If it isn't happening, check your settings.

  • HT2954 my gmail account will not go online

I think my gmail was hacked so I changed the password in gmail, and also in my mail on my computer.  It didn't seem to take the change, so I deleted the gmail account and set it up again, but now it will not go online.

    Hi Noah,
    gMail setup in OSX...
    http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_gmailosxmail.htm
    See if this helps...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • MAIL will not allow iCloud alias to receive mail

I am not a novice. I have been on iCloud (sadly) since July 2011. Today I tried to activate an email alias which was transferred into iCloud. It's valid and has been for years, but not activate since I migrated to iCloud.
Every time I set up the existing alias in MAIL I get the error "invalid incoming mail server."  I have used the Apple recomendation to use imap.mail.me.com.  When it comes time to exist ACCOUNT under Mail PREFERENCES, it will never SAVE changes as the incomding mail server information is grayed out and goes back to "example" and is not accessible.
I have also entered p99-imap.mail.me.com with the same result.
Two hours of going to icloud.com or managing my apple id online have brought exactly the same result.  Although the alias shows as activated under icloud.com and although it is accepted by MAIL, the message is always the same (invalid incoming mail server) and the account change can never be saved in MAIL.

I have a business with MobileMe accounts and we are going to be forced to migrate to icloud in a few months. I have nightmares about it alraedy.
Since Apple doesn't give a good cr*p about this, I humbly ask if there is anyone who really knows what is going wrong and how to work around it?
Again: I migrated to icloud with my apple id in July 2011.  MAIL will NOT set up my icloud alias as it always grays out the incoming mail server and returns the error "invalid incoming mail server" and will not even allow me the save the information.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your suggestions.
I already have an ALIAS set up and receiving emails in my main INBOX under the alias name. It is a MobileMe alias from my separate business mac account.  It has worked as a separate "account" under MAIL for 10 years. It is an ALIAS, not a main identity mac account. The System Preference panel is ACCOUNTS, not aliases, so I use the word "account" when I speak of setting up a new inbox with a different name and password whether that is an iCloud alias or a gmail account.
We may be talking about the same thing but I'm not using a word you use.  I am allowed 3 icloud mail aliases. I am allowed 5 mail aliases under my business mac account. On my mac MAIL I already have three separate "accounts" or inboxes:  (1) my private mac ID account  (2) my business MAC account  (3) an alias from my business account. All three have different passwords. None of the three gets emails sent the other two "accounts."
Maybe I just don't get "icloud." I certainly got "MobileMe" in the past. The alias that is currently working as a separate "account" or "identity" under MAIL is proof of that.
I am going to delete the "alias account" from MAIL and call it a day. For me, iCloud is commensurate with Windows ME in the history of computing: a stupid change that resulted in nothing but aggravation for everybody who was dumb enough to sign up for it.  I won't be signing up for the next "big thing" from Apple. I'm sure there are tens of thousands of other users who feel equally "used" by Apple on this.
I'm marking the question ANSWERED and closing the thread.  iCloud is iCrap and nothing I've experienced with it in six months has changed that opion and the fact that you can get a gmail account operating in MAIL in 2 minutes but you can't get an iCloud email alias working in five hours is just more fuel on that bonfire.
Thank you again for your couresty and your time.  I doubt if my business account, which has to be downgraded to iCloud in a few months, will function at first and I doubt if the 10-year-old alias on that account will continue to function in MAIL.
    Mike

My Firefox browser at home does not come online. I tried reinstalling, but it will not come online.
IE works fine. Microsoft outlook mail works fine. Norton anti virus works fine. Therefore I can access the internet.

Mail will not send messages. Help please: it receives OK but parks my outbound stuff in either Drafts or Outbox

Thanks for your answer. Apprciate it very much. Just prior to receiving your email, I got back online. However, as I had tried what you suggested (and a lot more as I am 'reasonably' competent), and had been so doing since yesterday afternoon, I do believe that what you suggested was correct - that it was my third rate ISP that was at fault.
    Nevertheless, many thanks once again.

  • POP account will not stay online.  Goes offline even after I "take account

My POP account will not stay online, even when I "take" the account "online" via the mailbox drop-down in the menu bar. I don't think the ISP or the internet connection is the problem as I have three other mailboxes with the same ISP and they all work fine.
Why might the POP account be failing to hold its online status and what can O do about it.
Thanks for your help with my problem.

Hi, and a warm welcome to the Forums!
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder.
Try dragging this file to the Desktop first, then logout/in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Can drag back if it doesn't help.
If that doesn't work try the .plists in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/
In your home folder, try trashing this folder after quitting Mail...
    /Library/Caches/Mail

Move Envelope Index to the Desktop in...

  • Mail will not accept my apple password since setting up iCloud?

mail will not accept my apple password since setting up iCloud?

    Hi there.
Since my situation is very similar, rather than start a new thread, I wonder if I could jump on this one for some clarification & to see if I'm okay to proceed with the Tiger instructions you posted.
    I'm running 10.4.11 on a 17" Titanium PowerBook G4. I have a .mac e-mail address & I'm using Apple Mail.
I migrated to iCloud several weeks ago & everything's been fine but I haven't been able to get any e-mail through all weekend.
I logged in to iCloud a short while ago & everything seems fine.
So could I ask whether the procedure you linked to works for .mac addresses as well as .me addresses?
Also, can I assume that the messages that are still sitting in my inbox will still be there after I remove the existing account & create the new one, (seeing as they're synchronised with the inbox online), whilst the complex hierarchy of folders I've created locally in the mail client will remain untouched?
    Thanks!

My apps store will not go online with verizon network, but on wifi it works. I am on an iphone 4, verizon.  I tried to do a complete, backup and restore on the phone 1 day before i noticed this problem,  The backup finished but the RESTORE would fail I had an error, could not access Apple server ( some server name I cant remember).
I have plenty of space available on the iphone,
    8gb free,
    ios version- 6.1.3 ( 10B329)
    carrier - Verizon 14.0
    Modem Firmware - 3.0.04
    Can someone help.
I tried doing my backup restore on the same computer as I once did a year ago. and THis time I cant do the restore on the iphone.
    computer osx is 10.5.8
    itunes version 10.
I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues.
