HT1338 MBP 2011 shuts off w/out connect to PSU.

Apple rep diagnostics - bad PSU but battery is good - bought new PSU.  Turned off computer - on charger overnight.  startup and keeps shutting off.  what is next please?  TY

The adapter works perfect with other computers (mac pro and dual 24" displays). The problem only seems to happen with this new MBP, Toshiba TV, and the adapter configuration I described. I'm trying to find a friend with a similar new MBP, and try it with theirs. With so many components, it's hard to isolate the problem (especially when all the pieces seem to work properly on their own).

    Error 9006 when restoring your iOS device indicates that there is security software on your computer which is preventing connection to the Apple server or your device.  To troubleshoot this issue please follow the directions below.

    Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
    Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.

  • Safari + Silverlight + Full screen = MBP suddenly shuts off and restarts

    In the past few weeks, my MacBook Pro has unexpectedly shut off and then started back up three times. Each time it happened while I was watching full-screen Silverlight video in Safari (4.0.3) — twice on the Netflix website and once on the NBC Sports website.
    The first time I had been watching the video for several minutes before it happened; I switched to a different computer to finish my movie.
    The second time it happened as soon as I switched into full-screen. I watched the rest of the game in a window (i.e., not full-screen) without incident.
    The third time happened after seven minutes of full-screen video. I switched over to Camino (1.6.9) and was able to watch the rest of my movie in full-screen without incident.
    I've watched full-screen video in Safari many times before without problems, but the last three incidents have occurred the last three times I've done it (i.e., it now seems to be happening every time).
    Each time, my MBP was connected to power, so I don't think it's a battery issue. Could it be an overheating issue? The fact that I was running the same software combination each time suggests to me that it's a software problem, but the symptom suggests hardware. Thoughts?

    Update, As of today, they STILL haven't shipped me a new battery, they claim they are within their 5-7 business days limit still and that it might/should ship tomorrow.
    I went into an Apple Moron Bar today and inquired about swapping one out in the store (they had plenty in stock) because the Applecare tech I spoke to said that it might be a faster option. The Apple 'tech' (seriously, he might be really good at ipods, but I doubt he knows how to turn on anything worth more than $300 with an apple logo on it, much less troubleshoot it) claimed he didn't have any batteries in stock.

  • MBP Randomly shuts off

    You may remember me from such threads as "Electonic "whine" from macbook pro when at idle." I am still waiting on a definite fix for this problem.
    Recently though, my MBP has been having random waking from sleep issues. Mainly beachball and black screen or that the power had completely shut off. This is rather annoying as it causes data loss. I tried removing the second GB stick I have last night for more testing.
    Today, while on battery power (with 30-40% left on the charge, verified by the lights on the battery), while using the MBP, it would just power off. So far today, I have reset the PMU twice, the PRAM once, and switched the GB sticks. I feel privelaged that it has not shut down on it's own in the last 20 minutes.
    Any thoughts?
    I am thinking of doing a full backup to a firewire drive, wiping the computer and starting fresh.

  • My MBP randomly shuts off at around 40-45% Battery Life

    About 2 weeks ago, my computer unexpectedly shuts off when it reaches around 40-50% battery life.
    I've done all the necessary calibration tests but to no avail. I've had my MBP since 2007 along with the original battery. Is this a matter of the battery dying or are there other bugs in the MBP that I should be worried about. Here are the details when it's at 45% and likely to shut down:

    The usual rule of thumb is that a good battery should retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 300 cycles. You have 747 cycles, and are well beyond the 300 cycle benchmark. It is no wonder that it is beginning to show signs of failure. In my opinion, it is just worn out from normal usage and it's time for a new one.

    My Macbook all of a sudden started shutting off randomly when ever i connect my phone, its charger or when i disconnect it.   • Speaker doesn't shut off when earphones connected

    I recently purchased a new 2nd generation ipod Touch however when I connect the earphones the speaker doesn't turn off. I need to disconnect and reconnect the earphones four or five times before the speaker will turn off. The earphones are playing the music when they are plugged in but so is the speaker. It's extremely annoying. This is my first ipod so have I set something incorrectly or is there a problem with my new ipod, any ideas?

    I don't have a 2nd gen myself but would suggest the following course of action -
    1. Ensure that you are pushing the earphone plug *all the way in*, I know it sounds daft but this does happen occasionally. Push firmly, you won't break anything.
    2. Check Settings > General > Sounds and check that the appropriate settings are enabled. (not sure if these differ from 1st gen but have to ask).
    3. Try a reset, press and hold both buttons, ignore the "Slide to turn off" instruction and let go only when the Apple logo appears, the Touch will restart.
    4. If the above fail, take/send it back

  • Computer shuts off when I connect my IPOD Shuffle

    I just got a new computer and I'm trying to use my IPOD shuffle. I've installed the software and have downloaded updates but when I plug my IPOD into the USB port I get a whole blue page of error messages and the thing shuts down. I am running windows xp pro.

    You might have to bring it to apple. Mines was doing the same thing. I brought it to Best Buy (thats where I brought it from) They can fix the problem. I have a windows vista. 30gb ipod

  • Airport Express shut off after VPN connection (Win XP)

    Hi all,
    I bought an Airport Express (AE) the other day to stream iTunes tracks to me distant speakers. I am using a laptop, Windows XP, SP 2. I all works brilliantly.
    However, the moment I am connecting through VPN (Cisco Client) to my university, AE is no longer recognized.
    The VPN is configurated that it only allows IPsec / UDP. Ports cannot be added. It runs on port 1000.
    Is there anything I can do to make the AE reappear during a VPN-session? I need to be connected via VPN most of the time.

    By default, the security appliance allows IPsec packets to bypass interface access control lists (ACLs). In order to allow specific traffic for a VPN tunnel, apply interface access lists. Complete these steps (apart from the basic VPN configuration) on the PIX/ASA:
    1. Use the no form of these commands in order to disable sysopt connection permit-ipsec on PIX version 6.3 and sysopt connection permit-VPN on PIX/ASA version 7.x.
    2. Create an access-list for traffic that goes into the outside interfaces. Refer to this access-list example in order to allow only Telnet traffic:
    access-list outside_in extended permit tcp 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 eq 23
    3. Create an access group and bind it to the outside interface. For example:
    access-group outside_in in interface outside

  • Does anyone know how to shut off the automatic connection to Facebook when using Safari?

    New to the Mac world and I'm still finding my way around the OS.    Also is there any way to make the Mail client delete from older messages rather then newer ones?    Every other Mail client I have used does it different. 

    You have set Safari's home page as Facebook.  Just go to Safari Preferences>General, and set the home page.
    If you have other questions about Safari, please go to the Safari forum as this is the MacBook Pro hardware forum. 
    I'm not clear on what your asking with regards to Mail.  Again, you might want to take your question to the OS X 7 Mail forum, so that you have a quicker answer to your question.

    Recently, my MBP started shutting off when the battery level got to 20%. No low battery warning, just shuts off like it got to 0%. I plug it in, turn it on, it boots and battery level is right around 20%.

    I took it to the Apple store and the "genious" told me that cycle count is too high and they can't replace the battery under warranty. He said I use it with a battery too much. Last time I checked, I bought a portable computer, it has a battery for a purpose. When I work at a client's office I don't always have it plugged in. What does actually constitute a "cycle"? I've had the laptop for 1 year and 2 months.

    Ok, so I'll tell you guys my experience with the genius bar at the Apple Store.
    It was about 2:20 pm today, I walked up to the genius bar and waited for someone to come to me -- which took all of 30 seconds. So he asked what my reason for visiting was, and I told him the story about how my battery would just cut off at 30%. He then asked for my computer, so I reached into my laptop bag, pulled it out, and placed it in front of him. It was in sleep mode so we just opened it up to get started; he went to the "About this Mac" from the Apple button in the menu bar and took a look at my serial number. After about 2 minutes he said "I'll be right back." I waited for no longer than two minutes, and he came out from the back with a box in hand. He then flipped my computer over and took my battery off, opened the box, pulled out a new battery and placed it in my computer. Then, all that I had left to do was sign for it, and I was on my way in no more than 10 minutes.
    What I find interesting is that he didn't even look at how many "cycles" my battery had; although, it probably wouldn't have made much difference as it was only at 17. At any rate, I asked him if there was a set of defective batteries out there -- including mine -- and basically he told me that yes, there was. So I guess since he looked at my computers serial number, his computer told me that mine was one of the affected ones.
    Anyways, bottom line was it was very easy to do to get it replaced, with zero hassle. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with how the Apple Store and genius bar both opperate, much better than dealing with stores like Best Buy and the like -- in my opinion anyways.

  • MBP Shutting off - DVD related?

    4 times today while on battery my MBP has shut off. Oddly enough, it seems to also be related to the fact that I burned a CD for the first time. Has anyone else seen this behavior? My battery doesn't look like it's bulging at all. I also installed 10.4.7 last night. My serial number starts with W8609.

    Sounds a lot like the symptoms of a failing battery.
    The bad batch of batteries in early MBPs would cause
    the MBP to shut down without warning, especially if
    the battery is low. I'd contact Applecare and I'm
    sure they'll send you a replacement.
    It's wierd, though - I'm one week outside the "window" (which on the articles I read was up to serial numbers W8608 and I'm a W8609). They had me reset the PMU. If it does again I'll got to the Apple store and see if they'll get me a new battery. If it still keeps happening then I'm hosed. I hope my ThinkPad for work ships soon otherwise I can't be without my MacBook Pro for a week...

  • My mac book randomly shut off

    I bought my mac book pro last december and everything goes well until last Tuesday. My mbp suddenly shut off by itslef when I was playing legaue of legend. This never happened before, and that was my first time. After that, my mbp keep shutting down randomly everytime when I played league of legend. Sometimes, it randomly shut off or restart by itself when I was watching a drama on an app called "pps", or even when I was maunally turned off the computer.. This problem really frustrated me becasue I spent like 3000+ dollars on this crap... I brought my mac to Apple Retail store and they told me that they have to replace a logic board in order to solve the problem. They also told me that the logic board will arrive in next 3 to 5 business days. I was like "okay". GUESS WHAT, I JUST CALLED THE APPLE STORE TODAY, AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT LOGIC BOARD WILL ARRIVE IN NEXT 6 TO 10 DAYS. WTH.. SERIOUSLY... so they just randomly delayed the date? Our coustomers spent so much money on support and buying iproducts...and... .. and .. sigh..
              So i am wondering if there is any solution/ way to fix my computer, other than waiting so long to replace my logic board. Also, I am wondering if I can replace my mbp for a new one.. since my mac has such a bad technical flaw.

  • 1st Generation iMac G5 shuts off all of a sudden

    My iMac G5 keeps shutting off all of a sudden. Also when I turn it on it shuts off 2 out of 3 times in about 5 secs. anyone have any ideas on whether this is a hardware or a software problem?
    I had the power supply replaced through the warranty agreement about 2 yrs ago.

    I too have a rev a imac and I too had problems a year ago, with kernel panics and sudden shutdowns. I took it for repair after noticing capacitors bulging and leaking, just to the right of the power socket. The bad capacitors had "x" on the bottom. I was told the mid plane had been replaced and everything seemed to be ok.
    Guess what?
    3 days ago, it started happening again.
    Just now I had a look in the back, and surprise, surprise, there are bulging and leaking capacitors, this time to the left of the power socket. Again the leaking capacitors are ones with "x" on the bottom. All the other capacitors have a "y" on the bottom.
    I suggest you take the back off your imac and visually inspect the capacitors.
    i am very very annoyed at this situation.
    The las fault occured when my imac was 11.5 months old, so I panicked and paid for Applecare. Then I found out that the warranty had been extended on all rev a imacs. Now my imac is one month short of 3 years old, and again this is happenign just before my apple care runs out.
    This does not give me any faith in the future of my imac.
