HT1338 Meow or Roar ?

I have OS X  10.5.8  Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard before Lion ?  or something else ?  Thank you !

Unless you're willing to purchase the more expensive USB flash drive and install it onto a blank partition, you must go through Snow Leopard.

My MacAir( 2011 dec ) fan is roaring wen heavy apps(Win7 via VMWare) are running. I also have a crystal cover but its well grooved for the heat exhaust.
Does anybody have the same experience ? Upgrading to 8GB RAM will solve it ? Is it possible to upgrade Mac Air RAM ?

You ARE running Lion, aren't you?
Does anybody have the same experience ?
No. Never noticed that on my MacBook Air. Try removing it from the case temporarily just to see if you notice a difference.

  • Roar mini speaker won't pair with Samsung S tablet

My HP Roar Mini wireless gives me an error code when I try to pair with new Samsung S Tab...invalid PIN or Password. How to I get it to connect?

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community! According to the Setup Guide for the speaker, it powers up in pairing mode: "Press to turn the speaker on and off. If the speaker is charging, the light is solid amber. If the battery is fully charged, the light is off when the speaker is turned off, solid white when the speaker is turned on and paired, and blinking white when the speaker is turned on and pairing. The speaker starts in pairing mode and automatically attempts to connect to previously paired Bluetooth devices." I saw nothing about a pairing code.  Is BlueTooth turned on in your tablet, and have you pressed "Scan"? WyreNut

  • Need help with new SoundBlaster ROAR SR20 or it goes to the trash. [Bluetooth]

Hey Guys, I just recently purchased a the Sound Blaster ROAR SR20 and even after 2 days of owning it and countless searches for help, I've come to no conclusion of why i cant get my laptop to recognize it [Bluetooth] and allow me to download any drivers for it. I have tried Connecting it VIA USB 3.0 whereas the drivers said they were successfully installed [and it works over USB] but when i attempt to re-connect via Bluetooth it shows that 3 separate Bluetooth Peripheral Device Drivers are needed and not installed. I am currently running Windows 7 (64x) Professional and have tried already using this method but with no luck.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2654568
Attached [hopefully] is a image/screenshot file of the drivers it is showing errors for.

Another option is to use this bluetooth transmitter with your laptop. Let me know how it goes and I can make further suggestions based on the outcome.

Ok so i purchased a aptX enabled dongle, installed the drivers from a mini CD, and now when i connect using the CSR 4.0 Bluetooth driver that now shows up on my taskbar, a pop up displays saying that Im now connected to an aptX enabled device.
Now my problem is that under properties (when selected for playback) i notice that now my advanced settings are drastically...well...crappier. Meaning that the Default Format sampling rate is Locked at 1 Channel, 16 bit, 8000Hz which is telephone quality, and it sounds like telephone quality.
However when connect using my built in Bluetooth adapter my Default Format sampling rate is 2 Channel, 16 bit, 44100Hz which is CD quality and i have the option only one other selection....2 Channel, 16 bit, 48000Hz which is DVD quality.
One would think that the so called legendary aptX codec would allow for a higher sample rate so I am wondering if this is user error or perhaps i have an outdated driver (a problem since CSR updates/drivers are no where to be found on the internet)
Im Hoping that maybe you can help me resolve this issue since Ive hopefully narrow down the list of possible errors
Hope to hear back from someone soon

  • HT1338 What do iPad users use if they do not have the apple icon??

    Hi,
I'm trying to get Java onto my iPad, on looking at the following site, it suggests clicking the apple icon at the top of a mac? But I don't have a mac I have an iPad, so how do I do it?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338?viewlocale=en_US
    Thank you, in anticipation
    Martin

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Java is not directly available to install on iOS, the operating system for the iPad.
I'm not sure just what you're looking for.
Do you need Java enabled to use a specific website, such as an education site?
This browser app claims to have Java capability built-in.
I've not used it, so I cannot vouch for whether it works at all or how well it works.
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/office-flash-java-w-chrome/id380204369?mt=8
For future reference, you've posted in the Mac OS X forums. (Yes, Mac does support Java in OS X, but the iPad uses iOS, completely different operating system.)
You'll likely get a faster reply by posting your questions in the iPad forums:

  • Soundblaster ROAR Mac USB Connection Lost After Reboot

I am using the device on my Mac. I currently connect it via USB, but also ran into the problem with Bluetooth. I set up the device for sound in System Preferences and everything works correctly. However, if I reboot the computer, the Mac is not seeing the device and won't reconnect via USB. I have to go back hit the Play/Pause button to connect it again via USB.
This is obviously frustrating. Is there a way to solve this problem? My Mac is running Yosemite 10.10.2.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Hi jwt0001,
As with any electronic devices, especially those with built-in batteries, leaving them connected to your PC or electrical socket that is always turned is not good for your battery. Although batteries these days have special circuitry to cut power off once it has reached its full charge, such practice can diminish your battery's lifespan/charging cycle. If your Sound Blaster Roar is connected to your PC and it is occasionally switched off from time to time, this should not be a huge problem.
It is a normal behavior for Bluetooth devices to take a second or two to wake up when audio begins since it needs to re-connect to its last paired connection. I've yet to observe this when connected via USB.
Personally, I pair my Roar to my phone via Bluetooth; I usually turn on the speaker, turn on Bluetooth to connect and start playing music. It does take a couple seconds to do this each time but is not so much of a hiccup for me.
    Cheers,
    Colin-CL

  • Mac Pro has died - it powers on but fans roar, screen stays black.

I had just woken my Mac Pro from sleeping overnight. It's running 10.4.8.
I open the boot hard disk in column view. I click the Applications folder to expand it into the next column.
The desktop disappears to be replaced by an all over blue raster. After a minute, that little grey rotating sun "wait" symbol you normally only see during start up, appears in the centre of the screen. I have no menubar or cursor.
I have been staring at this situation for five minutes now. I have never seen a Mac behave like this before.
I suppose the only option is to hold the power button in until the thing shuts down.
I shut it down with the power button. Powering up again, the fans roar, the screen remains dark, and that's the way it stays. No boot.
The only thing changed recently was the installation, yesterday, of the latest EFI Firmware Update v1.1.
I feel that this update has broken the computer. What are my options now?

Here's a copy of the relevent part of the log. I can't deduce what went wrong.

I have moved my iTunes library from an old PC to my new one running on Windows 8.  All play normally apart from two albums:  Songwriter by Justin Hayward and The Roaring Silence by Manfred Man''s Earth Band.  The FAQ suggestions don't resolve the problem.

Honestly, all the people in all the world that look at this forum, no-one can tell me why my itunes is causing my machine to fall over?
I wiped the machine and started again. Fresh XP install, fresh iTune download, fired it up imported one album and bang. Over it went. I've PC Checked the hard ware, mad onioned the system to see if it's a resource thing but it's rock solid until i open iTunes. Then after every re-boot, the message is back in the event log.
    This:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( iPod Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service started.
Can someone at least reply to let me know I've not typed this in dutch!! :o)

  • HT1338 How to download Java RuntimeEnvironment for my new Brother laser printer?

I recently purchased a Brother HL 2270DW laser printer to print  from my iMac (Intel) desktop computer. However, after inserting the CD into the computer I get an error message stating thus "This OS version is not supported. Software cannot be installed." There is a firmware update v 1.17, release date 06-27/13 for the Brother printer but, again catch-22, it requires Java Runtime (environment).
When prompted to go to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338?viewlocale=en_US I see no further instruction on how to update the Java Runtime. I am running iMac OS X10.7.5. Please help.

  • ACK Issues! Long Bootup and roaring CPU fan!!

    Hi all,
    Two issues...
My 2 yr old iMac takes anywhere from 3-8 minutes to bootup. I get this grey screen with a circle and line through it. Then it boots to the normal desktop. LONG time..?
Secondly, the CPU fan roars all the time. It's pretty loud. I've used compressed air on the vent in back, but to no avail.
    I'm running Tiger, 10.4.11. iLife 09
I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Leopard or Snow Leopard.... Would this help? Can I upgrade straight to Snow Leopard? Or do I need to go step by step through Leopard then Snow? LAME if I do..
    Any other suggestions?
    Thank you SO much!!
    Jay.

    Hi Jay,
I get this grey screen with a circle and line through it. Then it boots to the normal desktop.
    Most likely Hard Disk problems.
Have you booted off the Install Disk by holding the *d key* down at boot-up, (not the c key), and run the extended Apple HW Test? Some Install disks require holding the Option key at bootup to select the AHT. Some Macs came with separate AHT CDs.
Secondly, the CPU fan roars all the time.

    I wouldn't just yet.
    Any other suggestions?

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...

That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • My hd is making cracking sounds and a lour roaring  HELP!

my hd has always been a noisy one.. a little while ago it started making the roaring sounds every now and then... does this mean that the HD will probably die on me in a little bit or is this a harmless problem with the HD

Well, you would most certainly not want to rely on the drive for anything critical! I would clone the drive to another ASAP. It may not mean anything but I for one would not want to take a chance. You do not mention how old this drive is but no drive should make "roaring sounds".
