HT1338 Mini mac Apple TV screen jumping problem

I switched on my mini mac and Apple TV today to find they both seem to have the same jumping split screen problem. I have tried my ps3 into the same sockets and the TV seems fine is this an apple issue. Both my apple equipment were working fine two days ago when I last used it

So when it works in Safe mode using DVI, did you mean the signal is still passing through the amp/receiver that you plan on using? If that is the case, then I have a suggestion. Boot safe again in the same manner and when the boot completes and the TV comes up in 1024 x 768 as it does, go into Displays preferences and switch it to the desired resolution. Hopefully on doing so there will still be a usable image on the TV. If yes, then reboot normally. The last selection made under Safe mode should now persist through a normal restart and should stay that way ever after until you make a different selection again in Displays preferences.

If you put the software install dvd in you should be able to boot to it and at least try to run a repair disk or repair permissions. You could also try and boot to the AHT apple hardware test cd.
I would not reinstall just yet.

Lumia 2520 Screen Jumping Problem

Hi.
My Lumia 2520 (Bought in Jan 2014) keeps jumping back to the start screen even if I don't press the windows button. Problem started a few months ago and it is getting worse and worse. Sometimes it works without problems but every now and then it jumps back to start screen for several times (for example 20 times). It may jump back i.e. from IE, E-mail or Calendar. For example, during writing this message my device has jumped back to start screen (ans sometimes back to IE) for five times... When 'the jumping mode' is on moving the device seems to make the problem even worse. My device is up-to-date. Hardware problem / repair needed?

PowerPC Mac Mini gets stuck at grey apple logo screen, wont start

I have a bit of a problem and would appreciate some help, im not especially good at this stuff.
My Powerpc Mac Mini froze up recently, having left it on for a few days without shutting down/resetting. I impatiently turned it off with the power button at the back. When I turned it on again, it only got as far as the grey apple logo screen, it now refuses to go past this screen despite numerous power resets, and unplugging at the power.
I have reset the PMU and the PRAM as suggested by the troubleshooting, to no avail - the PRAM did work as it changed the resolution of the apple logo, but still got stuck at the grey startup screen. Its out of warranty so I have to pay for technical support. Can anyone help?

If you have the original install disk that came with your mini, the first thing to do is to insert that, and then boot the system holding the C key down. This should force it to boot from the install disk rather than the internal drive. The reason you want to do this is two-fold: firstly that if it boots OK that way, it shows the basic hardware is OK, and secondly, it's possible that the hard drive has developed errors (likely directory damage) and the tool to check for that and attempt to resolve it is on the install disk.
Once you've got the system booted to the install disk, exit the installer and run the Disk Utility application. That should display the internal drive (and the install disk) on the left. Select the internal drive and then click 'Repair Disk'. If no errors are found, the drive is fine and the problem lies elsewhere. If errors are reported and the disk is fixed, then you should be able to reboot normally afterwards. If errors are found and Disk Utility reports 'error on exit' not having fixed them, then run it again just to be sure, but otherwise it means the drive is damaged sufficiently that Disk Utility can't fix it. A third-party application such as Alsoft's DiskWarrior will then be needed if you want to try and fix the drive and recover data, or you can simply elect to do an erase and install, meaning the drive will be reformatted and a new copy of MacOS installed. Do not do this if you have data you need to get off the drive!!

Mac Mini won't get past the apple startup screen

Just returned from the long weekend and tried to boot up my mac mini. It seems it doesn't want to get past the apple startup screen and the icon on the bottom just keeps spinning.

New 2012 Mac mini having screen resolution problem when I connect to either 27" LG or 22" Hannspree monitor. Tried mini display port to VGA/HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D cables... all same isse

New 2012 Mac mini having issues in connecting to third party Monitors. Connected my mac mini to a 27" LG monitor. Text looks blurred. Tried connecting to the monitor using 3 options. 1) mini port to HDMI, then HDMI cable to LG monitor. 2) Mini port to VGA, then VGA cable to monitor 3) HDMI port on mini mac to DVI-D cable then DVI to DVI cable... In all cases text is not clear. Anyone has similar issues with latest mini mac. The monitor works fine when I connect to a windows 7 Samsung laptop. Any input is highly appreciated. Why do you use always 2 cables? There's a lot that can go wrong.
1.) Hardware:
- Use only one cable, best an HDMI->HDMI cable. It doesn't need to be an expensive one, they've proven to be no worse than those "esoteric", expensive ones.
- Set the monitor to the HDMI input.
- The modes you are listing are only "picture modes" changing color/brightness/contrast settings, not resolution or the likes, so pick the one you like best later, or enter your own settings under Custom.
2.) OS X:
- Usually the Mac detects the screen itself and chooses the best settings, so by default you need to do nothing than make a proper hardware connection to get a decent image.
- However, there have been issues with new Mac Minis and particularly their HDMI ports. But reportedly they have been fixed with a software update. So, launch the App Store and check under Updates if there is one for you to install. If so, do it; otherwise you should be good to go.
- If you require, go to System Preferences -> Displays. In the Dispaly tab, by default, "Best for display" should be selected, and that is typically true. If you want, select "Scaled" and 1920x1080, plus a frequency from the list (where higher is usually better, but just pick the one that works best for you). If you can't see a change to the better, you best go back to "Best for display".
- If you are not happy with the colors on your screen, you'll find eventually more than one choice in the Color tab, though your particular screen should be in the list and its Display Profile should get you the best result. (Double-check picture modes on your display: if you're far off there, you won't make it much better with the Mac's settings).

Mac mini with Apple Mini Display to VGA adaptor

Hello,
I have just purchased a new i5 mac mini, and have started to use it with an HDMI TV. This is great, but I really want to go back to using just my VGA monitor, which is an LGFlatron W2243S.
So, today, with the HDMI plugged in, I put a Apple Mini Display Port to VGA adaptor into the back of the mac mini, hooked it up to the monitor and great. The monitor was recognised, and it actually appeared as a second display.
But then, I pulled out the HDMI lead, and that was the start of the trouble. I now cannot get the LG monitor to work - instead it goes into power saving mode. I have proven the VGA cable, and also noted that the display settings do detect the monitor, but it just keeps going into power saving mode.
Reading on the internet I've found talk of the power from the mini display port being a possible problem.
At the moment then, the HDMI is still plugged in. Any advice on any settings I should be using to get the mini display -> VGA adaptor to work with the monitor? It is obviously working in some form (a) because I can't believe apple would continue to sell a dud product and (b) because it did occur briefly as a second monitor.

I've got some more information which I'm hoping might enable someone somewhere to help!!
So, I've just connected up the monitor again, with success. Both the HDMI and VGA monitor as mirrorred displays.
Then, I removed the HDMI connection, and the VGA monitor stayed on. I was also able to change the resolution successfully on the VGA monitor.
Then I restarted the system. The VGA monitor went into standby and wouldn't wake up from power saving mode (therefore was not able to see the password screen).
Plugged the HDMI back in (as well as the VGA) and restarted. Password screen came up on the HDMI screen. OS started up as normal, then the VGA screen came back to life on mirrored display.
So there is some level of success occuring now, except on restart. It seems as once the OS loads, it sends the signal to the VGA to switch on, but not on the password screen. Note that I do not want the HDMI screen connected - just the VGA. It's really a TV and I want to use it elsewhere.
I also downloaded the DP to VGA firmware update, but even with everything plugged in (and ironically with the VGA on and working!) it says that it cannot find a DP to VGA adaptor!!
This all suggests to me that things work, but that there's something I'm not quite doing right somewhere. My PC connects to the VGA monitor fine, and comes on at power up.

Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.

If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).

My Mac Mini utilizes a samsung screen with the vga adappter used for my display it goes black in the middle of work even while typing our utilizing the mouse and usualy does it twice in a row.

Mac Mini Server no login screen but server is running

Folks, I am facing a very strange issue with my Mac Mini Server (Mavericks 10.9.5, latest Server.app).
It started as the inability to see my Firewire external drive. So I took the whole thing on my table and simulated the problem, after connecting a monitor, an Apple keyboard and a mouse. In few words, the problem looks as if it can be described as:
When the system powers up, it goes to the Apple grey screen with the spinning wheel and stays there for ever. However, and this is the strange thing, I can still ssh to the server and the server processes are running, or at least the email service is running. I can send and receive emails just fine.
I've tried the usual things, reset SMC, reset PRAM, boot from another disk (external, USB), but I can't log in the server, either from the console connected to the machine, nor from Screen Sharing from another computer, so I can't run Server.app obviously. Also, while the system recognizes the internal disk and the USB external one, it doesn't recognize the Firewire disk I have connected. Needless to say, I've tried all the usual things, unplugging everything etc. I tried to mount a USB flash drive, to reinstall OS-X on the internal disk, but that's impossible, because everything gets stuck at the spinning ball grey screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does Apple hardware test run via D at startup?
What model is the Mini (it is worth checking it can run 10.8, just to make sure that test was valid). Does it have Applecare or a warranty (normally a year, but varies by country)?
The Firewire disk could be part of the problem - remove it. Check it is OK in the Mac Pro's Disk Utility.
I find Internet recovery can be very slow, leave it for a long time, it should give an error when it has failed, I'd leave it for 30-45 mins.
Don't forget the Mini can be read from the Mac Pro via Target disk mode, assuming you have the correct leads…

I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
What can i do now?

Mac Pro 2007 with Nvidia 8800GT screen redraw problems on Mac OS 10.5.2

I seem to be having a slight screen redraw problem. Such as when grabbing the browser window and moving up and down it seems the redraw can't keep up,also seems problematic when watching flash or other video online. It does it in the finder too for windows listings or in icon view there is a fluttering or flashing back and forth, kind of like a white super split second flash when dragging the window box smaller or larger not as bad as when making smaller. Hard to describe but my original Ge-force that I pulled was not having these characteristics. I figure that the drivers need tweaking. In windows I am not getting these results. I have newer boot camp installed as well as the leopard graphics update done so I am trying to see if others are having a slight problem or maybe it is me.
Also I make certain it is not heat related as I monitor that and it does not matter at what temp it is.

Here's another similar experience -- and my solution.
I bought a Quad-core 2.8GHz (8GB RAM) Mac Pro in May and got the "better" Nvidia 8800GT. I thought I was happy, but there were redraw issues after sleeping and a display "roughness" I found annoying. Upgrading to OSX 10.5.4 didn't help.
I found it to be mostly absent on startup, but sleeping the Mac would bring it on. I.e., after sleep, the relatiionship between the 8800GT would be different than before. when I logged out and in again, the problem woud vanish. No what I expect from a "superior" graphics card. I ascribed it to funky drivers from Apple.
The store I bought the Mac from offered to swap for my suggestion of an ATI HD 3870, so I went for it about a week ago.
This card is far smoother than the 8800GT and just as fast in rendering benchmerks for graphics. (I'm not a gamer.) I am a happy camper! There is no stuttering, oddball redraw, or jerkiness as there had been with the 8800. It's perfect! Never mind that it may be 5% slower for gamers, it feels faster for my use.
BUT NOTE: As I now see from reading several forums, I wasn't alone is getting a screaming-Mimi at first! The first 3870 ran at nearly full fan speed at power-up. The speed changed a little with resolution changes on my big Mitsubishi CRT monitor, and actually stopped when I switched to 1080x1920 @ 72Hz! Then the fan would start and quit, start and quit randomly -- convincing me it was defective.
I returned this RED-shrouded unit and the store replaced it, this time with (randomly) a BLUE-shrouded unit. (Slightly lower serial.)
Bottom Line: This replacement 3870 is quiet as a mouse! Fan runs near-silently at startup and after hours of regular use in a 75ºF room. I get the distinct feeling that a bunch of cards with wonky fan controllers were built, and some of us got 'em.
Bad News: The ATI HD 3870 does NOT support multiple refresh rates under Windows XP-SP2 booting the Mac Pro, with or without Boot Camp drivers installed. No version of the ATI drivers fixes this, and ATI does not officially support Boot Camp yet. You can choose a resolution okay, but you're stuck at 60Hz refresh -- a pain for those of us who hate 60Hz flicker. (I like 100Hz refresh.)
