Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results. -
All my mail have disappeared from my mac and my iOS devices. Seemingly from the iCloud server as well. How can I recover them?
Well, you can't since the emails are stored on icloud's mail server. Try this test, using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and check the mail page. If they are gone, then they are really gone.
Now, I thought I could go into a Time Machine backup and view old emails from a day ago. Unfortunately, Time Machine doesn't seem to save icloud based email, since regardless of the past date I go to, only the current emails show up, not older ones. My conclusion is that I wouldn 't be able to recover them from a TM backup.
What had you been doing on the mac or device that causes emails to be deleted? (I hope you don't have a family member or friend using the same icloud account - they may have deleted all emails by mistake.) -
Get back the folders and contents that have disappeared
All of a sudden subfolders of my inbox for one of my accounts have disappeared, even though I can still see them (and their contents) when I access that account through outlook and the provider's webmail. I want to see them (and their contenets) in the thunderbird left hand panel once again.
right click the account in the left pane and select subscribe. Are the folders subscribed?

I had a similar problem, which I solved like this:
In the sidebar, there are various main headings in gray. If I hover the cursor over those headings, I see the words "show" or "hide."
I went to the heading "ON MY MAC," hovered the cursor over it, clicked on "show." Voilà! All my mailboxes, which hold archived emails sorted by topic, are now displayed!
Now the question is: Why is there no reference to this in any of the help documents anywhere? -
I just up graded my system and my G mail file folders are now organized from Z to A how do I get them back to A to Z ?
It's the headers marked above as From, Subject, and Date Received.

I have just noticed that some of my important and often used 'Notes' within my Mail app have misteriously disappared? The last time I accessed them was only a few days ago, and now gone! I have Latest Lion running, no iCloud sync at he moment and the 'Notes' were kept in my Notes sector in Mail. I have searched all mailboxes and files in Library... gone! Any help or advice?
ThanksJust came looking for answers and understanding for same exact situation. You are not alone. I am very glad I did not have to waste time finding the right string or forum, BUT I AM NOT glad I lost a very important file.
Driving of a nice three hour trip Sunday, I put some great inspirations into a current note in my "Notes" program.
Immediately plugged phone in to computer when I got home, and immediately did a sync. Today, while out, when I checked my iPhone, the notes I entered the prior day were GONE! iTunes did NOT notify me of a "Conflict with sync" and well info gone, me very angry!
Plus, I did an experiement. I repeated exactly the before mentioned actions and the same result happened. (make note change on iPhone, plug into comp and sync in iTunes, remove iPhone from comp - with no "sync conflict warning message") On the fourth try (I was very aggrivated by then) I got the "sync conflict warning message." I repeated the test and its working fine now.
WHAT THE F(*&%!!!!!
I depend on notes for all my todo lists, inspirations, quotes etc...... I use this feature the most. What am I to do?
Is there a way to have only the most recent note be the update?

My safari and Mail have disappeared from my iPad
They disappeared suddenly and haven't been able to get back. I have tried changing the restrictions but this didn't work as they are already enabled and I have reset the home page and the iPad. Can anyone help me?
A Reset is done by holding down the on/off button and the home button for ten seconds. As I recall, you wait for the screen to go blank (ignore the instruction that appears on the screen).
A Restore is done from your Mac while the iPad is connected. Connect the iPad and browse around iTunes. -
My email icon has just disappered from home page bar. Where is my icon and mail???? A bit frantic!
Open the finder and click applications on the left sidebar. Find mail and drag it back into the bar (dock).

TS2475 My icons on th bottom of screen on my yahoo mail have disappeared?!?!
I Was checking my emails on my iPod touch.. I was about to erase a few when I realized the icons on the bottom which you can choose to delete or send to spam or flag were gone. I know I can delete by just swiping to the right of the email but I don't know what might if happened to the icons on the bottom?!?!?
I assume you mean file and folder icons on the Desktop and not the disk icons.
If so, what you could do is open a Finder window to
<user home folder>/Desktop/
If those files and folder are still on your Desktop but somehow off the screen, they should show up there in the Finder window showing your Desktop folder.
If they can be seen there, move them to a new location, such as a new folder in your Documents folder. Then, move them from there back onto your Desktop. -
Why is this? Comcast's SMTP outgoing mail server is set for my e-mai account but I keep getting an Apple error dialog saying the server can't be used.
I solved it by going to Comcast's website which had slightly different instructions for setting up an e-mail account than it did 4 years ago when I first set it up. Comcast's SMTP server always worked notwithstanding many Mac OS and Mail upgrades over those 4 years. Apparently, with my upgrade to Mountain Lion, something got sideways.
After following the Comcast instructions, the Comcast SMTP outgoing server now works just fine, as before. -
I have used my Apple Classic Ipod for music and photo storeage/playback. When prompted to download a new versionof Itunes (11.1.0) I did so but cannot now locate any facility for removing/adding photos. Is this a deliberate action on the part of the programmers or a mistake. What can i do to recover the siutation?

You can check for problems with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

You can only synce an iPod to one iTunes Library/one computer. However, you can manage music among different computer . see:

If you want to transfer non-iTunes purchased music from an iPod to a computer other than the one you synced the music from you need to use a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

All the email (over 75) I had imported into my iMac from my PC and which were stored under ON MY MAC in mail have disappeared. They were there for a year. The number 75 appears behind the word "import" but there is nothing there. How can I find them?
I found them!!!! I closed out Mail and started it up again and there they were....wierd!!!!
