I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!

I updated to MacBook pro last night and now safari won't open

I updated my MacBook Pro last night and since I did this I can not open Safari. It crashes and sends a report to Apple. Not tech smart enouh to figure it out can anyone give me simple suggestions?

Hello! So, my iPhone 4s fell down and now it won't open. I've tried to turn it on by holding simultaneously the home and lock button but nothing happens. I've plugged it in to its charger but all it does is vibrating constantly. Any suggestions?

I am working off of Windows 7. My husband restarted the computer and it works fine now. But before you would click on the icon to open the program it would appear as if it were firing up and then just shut down with no message or anything. That message means that you have to restore the iOS software because something went wrong. Follow the instructions here. I hope that you have a backup.
