HT1338 my mac book is responding very slow..mostly I'm surfing 3-5 pages at a time.i can't understand what to do?please help me

im new to mac book...in the start few weeks mac book was very fine i love it...but as time passed its getting slower & slower.what should i do.it has updated software MAC OS X 10.7.4 but still very slow.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

Hi, I just started a new movie and the program is running very slow. Is there a way to clean up my iMovie program so that it goes faster? Please help.

There is nothing you can do with iMovie program itself.  Slow response in usually due to a shortage of system resources (CPU, RAM and disk space).
How much free disk space do you have on your boot drive and what is the capacity of the drive?
You can check memory utilization while running iMovie using Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities).  What does the Memory tab show for Swap used?
Are you running many other processor-intensive applications a the same time?
If you have a lot of events and projects, it will help a bit to hide the ones you are not using by moving them from your iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders into an enclosing folder so iMovie doesn't load them.

  • When i installed yosemite on my mac book it runs very slow, is this normal ?

After installing OS X yosemite on my mac book it runs extremely slow. Is this normal ?

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.

  • My mac book pro runs very slow, can I make it run faster?

I have a 4 month old Mac book pro. granted, its just an i5 2.4
It seemed to be pretty quick when I first bought it.  but it started slowing down.
So I put 8 gigs of ram into it.
but it still runs painfully slow.
I spent the day putting files in the trashbin. Today I am deleting them perm.  BUt even the empty function is slow.  It can take 2 or 3 seconds to delete a single file. Right now, the process has been stuck on the same file delete for almost a minute.
I have run disk utils, and it came back instantly as fine.
    So, I have 4 questions.
1... is there a check list to improve speed.
2... It there a utiltiy program I should run to confirm my files.  I have uninstalled a number of programs. Perhaps they were not uninstalled properly?
3... I understand that there are some disksweep tools to stay away from.  Especially the free once.  Can I get a list of the bad players
4... I am thinking of replacing the Hard Drive with an ssd/hard drive combo.  they seem to be getting cheaper, and I have heard some good thinkgs about them.  I know it would void my warrentee, butcan I get some stories about the transition.
    thanks

  • Mac book suddenly running very slow.

My mac book the other day started running extremely slow to the point of lagging in word and finder. I've alleviated this slightly by updating the operating system (which took 12 hours to install), restarting in Safe Mode and resetting the PRAM.  However it is still to slow to really operate properly (but at least I can get onto the internet and run diagnostics whithout it freezing and dying). Two little oddities I've found whilst trying to fix this, I deleted avast but it still seems to have little bits of software that are showing up on EtreCheck, also although I apparently have around 400GB free, Utility disk is saying I only have 18MB, which does not seem to be related to MobileBackup, or any back up storage, so not sure what's going on there. I also tried to do a backup to an external hardrive but after 12 hours and only 2GB uploaded I gave up with my Mac in it's current predicament.

  • Mac Book Pro suddenly very slow

MacBook Pro suddenly very slow despite good wifi connection. Should I be scanning for virus? and if so, which product?

Scanning for a virus will be a waste of time.  To date there are no know virus' affecting Macs.
More details might be helpful, but in the interim, look at this comprehensive document:

  • Mac book pro Retina very slow Yosemite

    Hi everyone !
my issue is simple, since 2 days, i can't do anything on my MacBook pro Retina with yosemite.
All the apps are very slow to open, like 3 minutes for safari ...
i Have this issue in the console :
service only ran for 0 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 10 seconds.
THis can help you and me :
when i create a new user and i connect with the new user all is working fine !
    can you help me ?
    thx a lot !

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Mac book pro runs very slow

mac os x 10.9.5 takes few minutes to start

    Hi rumde,
Having your MacBook Pro be slow at startup can be a very frustrating experience. I have some things I would suggest to help get it back up to speed.
First, you may want to reset the computer's System Management Controller. See this article for instructions -
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Test after doing this. If the issue is not resolved, you may want to use Disk Utility to verify and fix any issues with your hard drive -
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • My mac book pro runs so slow and little round rainbow keep popping up

My mac book pro runs very slow and little round rainbow keeps popping up

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
    The issue your having is with the way Keynote  takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
    Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on  either display,  use application switcher:
press the the  command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command  > tab to return to Keynote.
