HT1338 My Mac Pro boots but the screen shows pixels and squares
Is this the grahics card?
I noticed a few weeks ago that my mac pro powered itself off, i didnt really think anything of it at the time as it was in sleep mode as i was away from it for a few hours.
Because i know systems collect dust over time each year i clean them out using either compressed air cans or a mini compressor to blow all the dust out, because it powered off i thought it maybe a build up of dust so i cleaned it out.
Then took it in and booted it up and lal appeared to be ok.
Then about a week ago i booted it up and then the screen went all pixelated and in square sections.
I checked everything is seated correctly and removed the ram, hard drives, graphics card and reseted them, some times it boots ok and then goes to these screens, other times it sits at these on boot.
Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Trev
sidthebeau,
among the possibilities are a display that no longer works; a GPU that no longer works; and an internal cable between the display and the logic board that no longer works. If you have an external monitor that you can connect to your MacBook Pro, you can find out whether the GPU still works. If it runs well with an external monitor, then you can run the Apple Hardware Test to see if another problem might be responsible. If not, visit your closest Apple store or other qualified service facility for a full diagnostic test.

Have a MacBookPro. The computer will not boot up. the screen has black and white bands with multi color bands as well.
Yeah it's dead. Take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have it checked out. Then buy a new one.

Hi...
When you post for help, please tell us which MacOS X you have installed.
Install the appropriate combo update ...
For v10.6 Snow Leopard > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
For v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo)
Then restart your Mac. That will reinstall the App Store for you.
See if you can download an app. -
I accidentally dropped my friend's macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!
I tried to turn it off and it didn't work... and I held on to the shift key too and it still doesn't work..
Please help me..Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty. And it seems there is much accidental damage. Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs. -
my iphone 5's screen blacks out every now and then. the phone is turned on but the screen is black and i can receive calls. what is wrong with my phone?
I have to believe this has something to do with iOS 7 issues. I have taken my screen blacked out 5s twice to the Genius Bar and the found a bunch of system apps had crashed. So if this is the case, is iOS7 the problem?

My ipod touch 4th generation's home button and lockscreen work perfectly but the screen is unresponsive and wont work whats the problem?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

my MacBookPro comes on but the screen atys black and blank. After about 30 seconds, it shuts down. Itx less than 2 years old and has very few hours of use.
anyone one have any ideas?
katherineIf you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. This happened to me when I received a call. My phone started vibrating when it received the incoming call but the screen was black and kept vibrating like as if the call was still coming in, even though my friend hung up. It kept going and going, so I tried holding down the lock button to turn it off but screen was still black/turned off. Hitting home did nothing. My friend said to try holding down the lock button and home button together to reset it. I tried this and yet nothing happened. I am waiting for the battery to drain out and give it a try.
To reset, you have to press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears - takes 10-15 seconds.

Hello.
I recently woke up this morning to use my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) to find that it was completely unresponsive to both buttons and would not turn on. I had been using it the night before and had not charged it. Thinking the battery was drained, I plugged it into a wall outlet for two hours, and still no sign of life on the iPod. Plugging it into the computer, it immediately showed up in iTunes and synced normally, and even indicated it had nearly a full charge. Still, however, the screen showed nothing. I checked the lock and home buttons to see if it was stuck, but it was not. Does anyone have an idea of what this is? Do I need to get my iPod repaired? Any help would be appreciated.
I am running iOS 4.1, and am out of warranty coverage.
Thanks,
- Justin1; Do a hard rest by holding the buttons at least 15 seconds. Does the Apple logo come on?
2. Hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds. Do you see the battery symbol?
If the answer is no to both questions, you most likely have a hardware issue--possible bad battery.

Can't sync photos between iPad and Mac OS X since updates
Just updated OS X and iTunes, now got message that "iTunes will no longer sync photos to iPad" - sounds like Apple is trying to force me to pay for iCloud photo sharing. Any way to avoid that? I loved the previous easy sync approach.
