HT1338 My MacBookPro will not open Safari. This fault started only yesterday (1st Jan 2013)

When I try to access Safari from my dashboard it tells me I am not connected to the internet. I am connected though!
I have to use Yahoo home page.
This fault only began yesterday (01/01/13)
I have downloaded my updates.
The original message when I tried to access Safari, told me my 'PC' was not working & I should 'fix now'.There was aslo a microsoft logo on the screen. Could this be a virus?

I'm a bit confused as to what you're seeing. You say Safari isn't working, but then you say you have to use Yahoo... what browser are you using to access Yahoo?
If you were shown a message saying that your computer was infected and needed to be fixed now while you were browsing the web, you probably stumbled onto a site that had been hacked to trick the user into installing "fake anti-virus" malware. However, at this time, there is no such malware for the Mac, so this was undoubtedly something that would only work on a Windows machine (unless you have discovered something brand new).
What did you do when you saw this message? If you immediately quit Safari, it's possible it has gotten stuck trying to re-open that page every time you open Safari. Try quitting Safar and then holding down the shift key while re-opening it. This will prevent it from attempting to re-open sites that were open when it quit.

Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant do not restore MS Windows, it only does the OS X partition. All of your Windows stuff must be backed up and restore using a MS Windows application. If no one on this forum is able to answer your question then I'd repost it on a Parallels forum to see how other Windows users approach this.

  • Firefox will not open or won't start (see /questions/964132 )

    was Ok till recently

Please include more information, such as your Operating System (Windows?) and version, plus exactly what happens when you try to start Firefox. The information that's listed in a recent Firefox crash report, if available, might also help. See [[Firefox crashes]] under '''Get help fixing this crash''' and post any crash Report IDs recently submitted (they'll start with '''bp-''' )
Your question title says "Firefox will not open or won't start (see /questions/964132 )" I looked at that question and it was started by another Firefox user. [/questions/964132?page=2#answer-477049] has a number of suggestions if Firefox won't start. Which ones did you try?

Note: A "clean reinstall" was one of the suggestions in [/questions/964132]. It means removing the Firefox application files and then reinstalling Firefox from a fresh download, as explained in the "Reinstall Firefox" step in [[Basic Troubleshooting]]. If that allows you to start Firefox, but if the problem returns after restarting the computer, you should do another "clean reinstall" and then troubleshoot your plugins by disabling all of them, as suggested in the [[Basic Troubleshooting]] article.

  • My notes app is "on" in my Iphone 3gs setting, but the note app will not open.  This problem just began.

I have always been able to use my note app on my Iphone 3gs until recently.  I have made no changes, no upgrades, etc.  I checked the settings and it is turned on.  It will not open and I have tried numerous times.  What could be the problem and how can it be solved?
Thank you for any advice or information.

This page is blank when loaded in Google Chrome and when using a WebKit nightly build with Safari on Mac OS X.
    I suspect there's a server-side issue still happening.

  • HT201210 After downloading latest version of iTunes it will not open.  This error message is displayed;  The program can't star because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.  Then a second error box

After iTunes requested that I download latest version on PC it now will not open.  2 error messages appear.  first:  The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.  second:  iTunes was not installed correctly please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).  I have tried reinstalling a number of times and restarting computer but no luck.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

  • Itunes will not open safari webkit2 error... :(

all of a sudden my itunes will not open... i've folllowed ALL of the steps to fix it... no results... my safari keeps giving me a webkit2process.exe error and quicktime does not work!!! help!!!!

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Coregraphics.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program using the orginal installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support" with an OK button.
After clicking ok i get another error saying "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 193)
Those ones suggest you've got a damaged Apple Application Support program file. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. (Click through the iTuneshelper warning.) Then head into your Uninstall a program control panel. Select "Apple Application Support" and click "repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, restart the PC again and try launching iTunes again. Do iTuneshelper and iTunes launch properly now?

  • HT204406 i purchased music from itunes and now itunes will not open on this mac.  is there a fix for this?

i purchased music from itunes and now itunes will not open.  how do i get it back??

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL837
Does your iTunes launch properly now?

  • Firefox will not open at all. I only get the Mozilla Crash Reporter over and over.

After updating yesterday, Firefox will not open. I repeatedly get the Mozilla Crash Reporter. I've scanned my computer for malware, I've tried to open it in safe mode (it won't), I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled Mozilla, but nothing works. Each time I reinstall, I still get the Mozilla Crash Reporter. The program will not open at all.
I ran my crash ID. Here is the info: bp-eff196eb-ed21-45ee-83c6-e0fc42130123

hello, this crash is caused by Websense Endpoint security software that is running on the system. please try to install all the updates for this program that are available...

  • After hard drive crash, Pages app brought over, and upgrade to snow leopard installed, Pages would not launch.  Re-downloaded the 3.0.3 update and Pages launched, but will not open any documents or start new document.

After a hard-drive crash, Pages application was brought over from the old hard drive, and upgraded to snow leopard.  However, Pages would not launch.  I do not have the disks and the computer was given to me by my son with iWork 08 installed, so I do not have the ability to re-install using Purchases.  I re-installed the update 3.0.3, which I already had, but thought it worth a try.  That enabled Pages to launch, but it will not open a new or old document.  I can see in preview the document, but it will not open.  Any suggestions besides repurchasing Pages.  I've just put out a lot of money for a new hard drive and retrieval of apps and docs from the old hard drive and would like not to have to put more money in it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You can not simply drag over Pages, particularly if it was perhaps damaged in a crash.
As it was only Pages '08 it may be time to upgrade to Pages '09 from the App Store. It is not that expensive and will allow you to install it on any Mac sharing the same Apple I.D. and protect you from a repeat of this problem.
There are free alternatives to Pages if you are hard strapped, it depends on what you are using Pages for, it is not the only option by far.

  • Excel 2007 will not open .XLS from a doubleclick, only file open ...

I have a user who has Office 2007. Her Excel will not open .xls files when she doubleclicks on them, be it on the desktop, in a folder or from outlook mail messages. However, when she maps to it with File >>> Open >>> dig down to file
    >>> x.Xls, then the file opens. What is causing the doubleclick not to work, and what can I do about it so it does?

    Hi,
We can change the file association of the Excel file. Please right-click the Excel file and choose
Properties. Click the Change button and choose
Microsoft Office Excel. Also check the box before:
Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
If the problem persists, try the methods below to resolve the issue:
    Method 1: Enable the
Ignore Other Applications that use DDE feature
    ===================
    1.
Click the Office button an then click
Excel Options. Excel displays the Excel Options dialog box.
    2.
    Click
Advanced at the left side of the dialog box.
    3.
    In the
General section, make sure the Ignore Other Applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box is selected.
    4.
    Click on
    OK.
If you still cannot double-click on a workbook to open it, try these steps:
    Method 2:
    =================
    1.
    Close Excel completely.
    2.
    Open a My Computer window.
    3.
    Choose
Tool | Folder Options. You should see the Folder Options dialog box.
Note: If you are Windows Vista, click Start > Search, type Folder Options and search it.
    4.
Make sure the File Types tab is displayed.
(Note: This option is not available in Windows 7.)
    5.
In the list of registered file types, find and select the entry for
    XLS (Microsoft Excel Worksheet).
    6.
Depending on your version of Windows, click on either the Edit or the
Advanced button. You should see the Edit File Type dialog box.
    7.
In the list of actions, choose
    Open.
    8.
    Click the
Edit button. Windows displays the Editing Action dialog box.
    9.
The Application Used to Perform Action box contains the actual command line used to start Word. Double-check the line to make sure there are no strange extra filenames at the
    end of the command line.
    10.
    Make sure the
Use DDE check box is selected, and that the DDE Message box is set to the following: [open("%1")]
    11.
    Click on
    OK.
    12.
Close all the other open dialog boxes.
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,

  • I have a Imac and I have 8.1 iphoto and it will not open my library  it started after i tried to close all the windows with no luck and had to force the system down by turning it off. everythig else came back up olay except Iphoto

My iphto will not open after I had to shut down my imac due to it not being able to close iphoto . It just says opeartion not able to open.

Try at the very least to update your iPhoto version to 8.1.2.

  • HT1338 my iphoto will not open

    my iphoto will not open

    Good evening Terrence,
I was mortified to discover that I can no longer open Iphoto on my Imac.  I get the message that the photo library is in use by another application or has become unreadable.
    The pertinent specs are:
    Iphoto 9.4.3
    Imac 12.1 Intel Core i7 2,8 Ghz
    Mac OSX V 10.7.5
Approximately 1 week or so, I began to notice that my IPhoto icon on the dock was bouncing up and down.  I went in today and saw the above message.  I have done nothing out of the ordinary, as far as I know as to the settings.  However, there were 3 things that have occurred recently, which may or may not have affected the Iphoto application.  The first is that I received an email with a google docs attachment that appeared to have been sent by a friend, but in actuality was not--I think it is called phishing or something like that.  Apparently my friend's gmail account was hijacked, and by opening the attachment, so was mine.  I downloaded Norton security (free version) to ascertain whether my computer had been infected with a virus or not, and apparently it was not.  On Dec 25, I purchased and downloaded the Norton security software as the trial subscription was expiring.  The other thing that I did was to upgrade my Iphone from a an Iphone 4 to a 5S. I also noticed that a lot of Gmail messages in my Sent file covering the month of November and December were missing-not in Sent or Trash.
Steps taken.  I saw on this blog that there are two options to attempt a remedy: The iphoto repair and rebuild database  option and the download of iPhoto Library Manager.  I chose the latter option, as I am not confident in my ability to backup my photo library.  ( I stupidly thought that my photos and data were automatically being backed up in the Cloud, as those items were checked in my Settings pane..)  That apparently turns out not to be the case.  So, instead, I downloaded the iPhoto Library Manager, and VOILA, I immediately see my photos and events in the newly created Default Library.
All good up to this point.  But now what do I do?  Every time I close the Library Manager, I cannot find it anymore.  I tried to save it so that It can be found by Finder, and create a file for it, but when I attempt to open it, I get a message that there is no application for it. How can I create an icon on my Dock, or somehow create a folder so that I can find Library Manager and my new Default Library?
Secondly, can I attempt to repair my iPhoto library using the Apple built in option with out worrying that If I damage the Iphoto library, I will also damage the new Default Library as well?  It seems that Library Manager is integrally connected with Iphoto, so I am afraid to close the default library for fear that I will not be able to retrieve it (the way I have done so is to go back in my download file and reopen Library Manager) I am  afraid to try to repair the Iphoto library without knowing if the default library is separate and distinct from the Iphoto library.
I would very much appreciate your assistance and wise counsel.
    Thank you
    Nwprtbch (nervous!)

  • HT5557 why can i bye a book from itunes libery but it will not open on this pc

why can i not open a book that i got from itunes on itunes

The iBooks sold at the iTunes Store are only for iOS devices such as iPads and iPhones.  They cannot even be read on a Mac, much less a PC!
If you wish to download books to read on your PC, get the Kindle Reading App for PC, and buy your e-books from the Kindle Store.
The Kindle books can be used on PC, Mac, Kindle readers, and iOS devices, by use of the corresponding apps.
