How can you tell if you have a virus? I am having trouble with my email and can not get any mail from work.
This has been going on for a couple of weeks. My phone is now having issues too!
I also have also had a lot of Adobe requests to update.

A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started. However, be careful about what you do as new variants of the malware circumvent the efforts of earlier tools.

Apple has released Java updates for Snow Leopard and Lion users:
Java for OS X Lion 2012-003; available only for users of Lion with Java installed.
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8; available only for users of Snow Leopard.

Install whichever shows up in Software Update. It removes the malware (if present), updates Java (if present) and tightens up Java settings for the future. You may download from Apple's web site instead of using Software Update, but it's important to know which one to get, because the other two won't work for you.

There's an update from Apple that's been pushed out. On mine, System Update pushed this when I opened Safari. If not same for you, try running Software Update.

1-What is an ARDAgent and how/why would I 'run such an executable'?
2-How can someone have such unabandoned access to my system if I have minimal sharing turned on?

Can you point me to this story and what weekend was this? It sounds like old news and the exploit involves you willfully giving administrative permission to some website to download a program. Not likely you would fall for it.
As far as security, while there are no known viruses that attack Mac OS X at the present time, it is possible for spyware to get onto your Mac.
So I go to lenghts to protect my user. A hosed system can be replaced but a compromised user folder is compromised forever. Along with all your important data like bank records, credit cards, ... I.e. your "identity" stolen.
The best way to avoid that is by using your built-in firewall which is industrial strength and/or a hard wired router, downloading only from "trusted" sites, installing all security updates and being careful about what you give administrative power to. It is also recommended to run day to day tasks from a non-admin account.
Don't use Limewire or any other P2P service to download your software, get it from reputable sources. In addition, always keep at least your users backed up, preferably a clone of your entire system on a separate disk. And put your sensitive passwords, bank accounts, credit card numbers in a "secure note" in a new keychain or in an encrypted folder.
If and when a Mac virus does appear it will be headline news and you can download the AV software then. If you feel you have to run an AV program I'd suggest ClamXav a mac friendly freeware app that is very stable with Tiger. It will check for known virus signatures at any rate.

Can I connect a 21.5 inch Formac Cinema Display from a G5 Powermac to a new Mac Mini

Hi, thank you very much for your response to my question,I have probably described the display incorrectly. It is a Formac display in a clear Perspex type surround. It has a triple lead , power,USB and DVI plug. I am not that sure about this screen , it works fine with an old G5 Powermac when connected to my new Mac mini nothing happens.

New Macs and Viruses

I have been looking at new Macs. My question is this: Are the new Macs as safe as the old macs where viruses are concerned. I think this is what I am talking about.
Intel Core 2 Duo. I don't know what I have on my ibook G4.
I don't know if I can afford a Mac again. My G4 cost about 1200.00 and now it would be 2000.00 and it doesn't come with Iworks. This is really getting bad.
I have even considered getting a PC because of the price.

Your questions are not well pointed, but I will venture to respond.
There is no virus in the wild that would infect Mac OS X. It is the OS, not the computer that makes the difference. Intel Macs running Windows are as vulnerable to viruses and malware as any Windows machine.
If you need to run OS 9, you are best off with your iBook or another PowerPC computer as you cannot run OS 9 or Classic on an Intel Mac.
Yes, you can boot your computer from an external firewire HDD. It must be firewire to be able to boot from it as you cannot boot a PowerPC Mac from a USB device. You can install a newer and larger capacity HDD in your computer. You can do it yourself or have someone do it for you. There are services that would do it for you. It would cost about $75 labor plus the cost of the drive and shipping.
The freezing can be caused by different things. If you describe exactly what happens more exactly we may be able to offer suggestions.

It's not a virus.
Quit Safari. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch Safari by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the bad page from reloading automatically. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

It sounds like you destroyed your boot partition and the recovery partition. Depending on it's age, your MacBook Air might be able to do a net boot. Plug and ethernet connection into it and attempt to boot. If it has the right firmware, it will find a net boot configuration on the net and boot that. Then it will give you a Recovery Partition like display and allow you to reinstall the OS X version that came with it.... assuming that it was Lion or ML. If your computer came with Snow Leopard, then even the net boot won't work.
At that point you need a bootable USB Key, or an external DVD drive AND a Snow Leopard installation DVD.
An Apple Store, if there is one nearby, MAY be able to get you going again. However, whatever is on the SSD now will be toast too.

I'm sure you've done everything like rebooting or testing other usb devices...have you tried to create a new user account and see if you get anything that way?, I would imagine you'd have to return the machine for an exchange at the Apple store.

HT1338 wifi dropping new mac mini

I have recently upgraded to a new mac mini 2.3 GHz Intel i5 with 8GB 1333 DDR3 of ram. The comptuer is four days old and about every 20 minutes, the wifi signal drops and will not reconnect without a manual selection.
I have gone through many steps, removed all wifi signals, all software is updated and I have installed nothing new. The system worked fine the first day, the last three have been irritating.
FYI< I have two macbook pro, four Intel minis, two airs in addition to this one that are all running fine on the network. I have a T3 and a professionally installed internal network.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Same issue here. 2012 MacMini, looses connection randomly. 2008 MBP running also Montain Lion, and 2012 MBPro with Lion in same room, work just fine.
It reconnects after clicking on WiFi in menu bar, but on its own is gone withing 1-2 hour. Very annoying.
