HT1338 OS X update failure, problems followed

Recently when we tried to install the latest OS X update, our internet connectivity was interrupted and the install failed. However, when this happened it locked up the computer and nothing could be done to get it to run. It had to be manually shut down and restarted. After this occurred and the computer was rebooted, several problems were found. When I tried to finish the install it popped up with a message saying "App store cannot open because of a problem" which then listed it may not work with the OS X software. Several other applications will not work as well. I thought I found the root of the problem when I tried to launch iTunes and it immediately came up with a message stating "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly, please reinstall". I came to the website and downloaded the latest version. However, when it went to complete the install it asked for a user name and password, and the same user password that was used at the time of the failed OS X update, no longer works. It has not been changed by anyone and has been working for the past year. Im not sure what the problem is. We reset our apple ID to see if this would make a change, but it still wont let us in. I cant figure it out beyond this point. Any suggestions?

If you have the Late 2012 Mac mini, it requires a special OS X update that it's not available. Wait until Apple releases this update

    Hello,
My sensor has stopped doing auto updates & there's been no config changes on the sensor. When tyring to access the update URL via a web browser I get the following error:
We are unable to process your request at this time. Please try again later. If the problem persits, please contact customer Support. We apologize for any inconveninence this may cause.
SmartNET contract is valid for the IPS.

I am also having problems. Running on an ASA 5510, been auto updating fine for over a year, but no longer is. I have always been using the default URL. I even set everything back to defaults, re-entered my login info, and still have the same issue.
I've placed newer (but not the newest) signatures on a FTP server and the ASA will pick those up, but not from Cisco.com.
The error in the logs says "uri does not contain a valid ip address" but searching for this is fruitless. The Cisco.com url I'm using, the default, is "https://198.133.219.25//cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl". I'm running 6.1(1)E2 currently on signature 351 which I updated to yesterday via FTP. It will not download 352.

  • Continuing update failure problems, "Not running real Windows"

    Hello,
About 2 weeks ago I started getting a message on my computer screen "Not running Genuine Windows". I am most definitely running genuine windows. I checked the archives here and tried a fix that popped up, no joy.
It gave a fix option, which failed...generating error code 800706F7 again. I called tech support, a lady spent two hours working on the computer and could not fix it. She sent me to level two tech support, he called on New Years Day and worked on it for
a couple of hours and thought it was fixed.
The error message is back, the computer will not accept updates from windows updates.com, tells me to install update fix it, did so, still fails to install updates. This is becoming a nightmare, please help.

    Hello NorCal Jeff,
Please use system restore to restore the system back to a store point before two weeks ago and check if the issue still exists.
    System Restore:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows7/products/features/system-restore
1.Open System Restore by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the
    password or provide confirmation.
2.Follow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point and restore your computer.

It's a problem that Apple is having with their App updating system.  The best solution is to be patient, and wait for Apple to solve their systemic problem.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.3.4 Update failure- "Error Applying Transforms, verify that the specified...

I have ignored this issue for long enough.  I have Adobe CS4, with Acrobat Pro version 9.3.4.  Windows 7.  Acrobat updater pops up on my machine, and when I execute the update requested, the updater gives me the update failure message, with code 1604, "error applying transforms."
I have seen solutions posted for this tranforms message, but it was a problem with Acrobat 8.  I have seen no solutions as of yet for Acrobat 9, so I thought I would post.
I also tried opening Acrobat 9 Pro, and under the help tab, I initiated "repair".  I get the same transform error message as above.  Any advice anyone?  Should I just uninstall Acrobat 9 Pro and reinstall using my CS4 disk?
    Thanks for the help!

If you have original CD with Acrobat installation, copy all files with extension .mst from this CD to the following location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Setup Files\[ProductCode]   if this is 64bit system
    or
    C:\Program Files\Acrobat 9.0\Setup Files\[ProductCode]   if this is 32bit system
where [ProductCode] is a unique value which identifies your language version of Acrobat 9 Pro.
    If this is EFG version, it should be {AC76BA86-1033-F400-7760-000000000004}
If location does not exist, create it.
    2. If you do not have original CD and cannot find .mst files, provide the exact Product name including language and I will provide further instructions.

  • Windows update failures over the past several months

I'm having the same issues regarding windows update failures as many documented in this forum. I have run the repairs recommended, drive scans, etc. with no success. I'm at the point that I think that it would be better to cut off the update notice. I have
zipped up the files recommended and posted them on my skydrive site. That location is https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=C1221863E15FBC11&id=C1221863E15FBC11%211274.

You may be right.  Try eliminating WU from a symptom description.  E.g. pick one of the updates which is available as a download and try installing it that way.  Just use WU as a guide for what you should download and install manually.
I imagine that if that works eventually WU will repair itself and realize that it doesn't need to do anything else for you.
A search to support the idea of manual download and install acting as a workaround for this symptom:

Another suggestion which could be implied by your diagnostics would be to uninstall your Norton package (and any of the other interferers which are mentioned that would be suspect).  Norton is notorious for interference with updating and is also known
to interfere even when it is supposedly disabled and is also known interfere even when it has supposedly been uninstalled, so who knows what the cause of the problem is, corruption or blocking, you could at least change your POQexec.log by taking such
    manual action.
BTW what have you done exactly about trying to repair WU?  You could save yourself a lot of manual effort if you could get it working properly.
Otherwise, on the manual update tack I would try doing first the ones which arrive in pieces.  Search WindowsUpdate.log for  Downloading  for clues that way.
    Good luck

    any idea ?

I did the same thing, TAC support said they've had like 20 people complain about this. He said "there is no reason to update the boot code on a 3005 model. It is only needed on the 3015 and higher models to support RAM chips larger than 256MB." TAC support said DO NOT UPDATE the boot code on the 3005.
I suggested that they make note of this SOMEWHERE in their documentation. He provided me with some hidden low-level commands to erase the boot code, but as he said the 3005 doesn't need v4 of the boot code, and the boot code hasn't been tested for it, it's possible it would just break the concentrator. He then added the only way to 'fix' a damaged boot code is to replace the entire unit. He suggested we not touch it anymore, and leave the boot code running as-shipped.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.

  • Really frustrating update failures. Slowed down my PC by 1000 times

Hello, I've been using windows 8 from its beta days. But after upgrading to windows 8.1, every major update seems to fail. I've also looked into the history and tried installing them manually but it fails after the stage "copying packages to the windows
update package". And if this isn't bad enough, my laptop takes about 20-25 minutes to shut down. It keeps showing "preparing updates, please don't turn off your computer".
I am getting really frustrated since there is nothing I can do about this. And this doesn't seem to be the first time, it happens every time there is a major update.
Also after this update failures, i seem to have other issues such as
Wifi stops working after 5 minutes of youtube streaming
chrome crashes more often than ever
performance in general has been absolutely awful
None of these happened before. Also I do not have any viruses or malwares.
    Currently failed updates.
    KB2887595
    KB2919355
Should i just downgrade back to windows 7? Or is there a permanent solution to this problem.
Also when I install the update manually, the error says "The system cannot find the path specified"

    Hi,
Are there any error code? please also check Windows\logs\cbs for the detailed information.
for KB 2919255, this is a known update , we call it Windows 8.1 update 1, you can refer to this link ans see if it can help you
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/install-latest-update-windows-8-1
You can also clear the software distribution folder, then install the updates again.
At the Command Prompt type the following commands one at a time:
    net stop wuauserv   hit enter
    net stop bits     hit enter
Now browse to the C:\Windows\Software Distribution folder and delete all the files and folders inside.
    net start wuauserv     hit enter
    net start bits    hit enter
Meanwhile, keep your windows uo to date before installing the two updates. KB 2919442 is the prerequisite to install KB 2919355

  • Firmware Update Failure? Extreme help needed

I was trying to update my ipod but when i tried to restore it, it suddenly stopped, then it said firmware update failure. No my ipod is screwed up again. This is the second time. The first time i sent it away and they gave me a new one, i followed the directions they gave on updating and restoring to windows settings, but now my ipod shows the apple, then the exclamation mark folder with a website below that. i need help cuz i don't want to send it away again.

ok i think i may have just fixed it, and for all of you who may run into this problem. I just tried restoring it on my friends computer, and i think i fixed the problem.

That has nothing to do with an update server. Do the following:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Think Vantage Update Failure to Install

Are you experiencing "n Packages did not install" messages from Think Vantage System Update after
it has completed updating your system with Microsoft Vista Update Modules (KB XXXXXX)?
This has occurred more than three times after having installed Vista SP1.  It is troubling because it seems that System Update is failing to install necessary KB updates.
The most recent failure followed an attempt to install three Update Modules.  I checked them out and found that they were pre-SP1 hot fixes.  For example, KB 932063 was a hot fix that Microsoft issued to fix five wireless issues in the pre-SP1 environment.
This practice by Lenovo raises two questions:
Why is Lenovo promulgating pre-SP1 hot fixes in a post-SP1 environment without giving notice to uses that the updates are not appropriate for SP-1 machines?
Why does Lenovo promulgate for general installation hot fixes that Microsoft recommends be installed only upon the occurrence of certain symptoms?
After the first occurrence of this type of System Update failure I phoned technical support.  The technician told me that I had to call the pay-per-visit support line.  When I told him that this was a new practice that was instituted after the particular Think Pad (a T60) was purchased, he argued with me.
These practices are Lenovo management issues.  They should be remedied at once.
    slcastner

I've had the same problem with trying to install SP1. Any 'pre-sp1' hot fixes are included in SP1 anyway, so I don't know why SP1 won't install. I have also tried to update some intel drivers and they failed, and the message said to contact my system manufacturer for the appropriate update. It's a tough way to do business.

  • Does anyone know how to solve: "Firmware update failure. Disk write error"?

    Hi all,
Here is the list of all what went wrong and where I am now:
    1. My Ipod worked well
    2. I wanted to update it, you know, the normal thing with Itunes
    3. Every time I tried, my computer froze. I was unable to add only one song (both automatically and manually).
    4. I took my external drive (where my music is) at work and tried again: same result.
    5. I decided to run the Updater I have on the CD that came with the Ipod.(2005-02-07; I usually avoid the newer version, having had once a problem when putting a newer version of Updater).
    6. The Updater was unable to operate any action on my Ipode (I don't remember the messages now).
    7. Like I tried what I describe here above like a hundred time. I decided to format the Ipod with Windows (My Computer, right click on the Ipod, format).
    8. It did and now I have only the famous folder with an exclamation mark on my Ipod.
    9. Now when I am running the Updater, it says it cannot Restore the factory settings giving this message "Firmware update failure. Disk write error".
I would appreciate any help because, during the last 2 hours, I read and tried all I found on the Support Help here on the Apple web side without any result yet.
Thank a lot for your answer
