HT1338 Outgoing mail suddenly stopped working:-(

My outgoing mail suddenly stopped working - need help to reconfigure.
Thanks

I had that issue once too. I turned off my Internet sources (AirPort, ethernet connection) and then opened Mail. Mail actually opened that time. I went to my accounts, deleted them, closed Mail. I then turned on my Internet connection and reopened Mail, reimported my accounts, and everything has been fine since.
Just a note: I was using IMAP, so everything I wanted on my Mail was on the server, so by deleting my accounts nothing changed. If you're using POP(3), you may experience different issues. By turning off your Internet connections, you can at least determine if Mail is having issues connecting to a server or if the bug is something else.
Good luck - I'm sure others will have several different suggestions here.

  • My Mac mail suddenly stopped working

My Mac mail suddenly stopped working. The last email I have is from 4:40 or so this morning and I know that I have email because I can get it via a webmail program. It stopped working on my iPhone 4 too. Any ideas? It's IMAP if that means anything. Thanks.

I'd recommend  also reposting in the Snow Leopard forum because Mail is part of SL If both sending and receiving is not working then contact your ISP and see if they have any known issues. If they don' t what I've found to work is removing the account in Mail and then recreating it.

  • Outgoing mail has stopped working on iMac.

My outgoing mail has suddenly stopped working on my iMac. It works on my laptop and phone. Says "Cannot send message using server smpt.comcast.net
The server response was: Authentication required.
I hadn't changed anything in preferences, so I hesitate to do so now.
    Help please!!

Well you still have not stated what you did.
I would recommend re-inputting all of your account preferences as I advised in your other post in this thread:

  • Outgoing mail server stopped working

I'm using time-warner cable internet and the outgoing server suddenly stopped responding to Mail. I called TW but of course they said there was nothing they could do- it's an Apple problem.
So, Apple, what would make Mail stop recognizing the server? Nothing changed as far as I know.
Any ideas would be deeply appreciated! I can't get my work done!

I am having an issue with sending email out atm as well. Could you tell me LAM if the problem is non stop or only occasionally?
For me I keep getting a message telling me the outgoing server is not available and would I like to try again later. I have several smtp severs setup to deal with the different networks I join so I also get the option to use another server. Without being connected to those networks it will not work however.
I found if I just close and reopen mail the message will send. Its real annoying as its only just started for me in the last week or so.
I have a Mac Book Pro with 10.4.10 osx. I have tried removing the server settings and replacing them and also the disk utility to verify and repair permissions. I see people having trouble with email on iphone and wonder if there is some trouble with the latest update.
I have also confirmed my isp has not changed its smtp settings. Overall mail is still working, just not how it should be

  • Mail Suddenly Stops Working

I'm helping a client who's email suddenly stopped working. So I did all the usual, and atypical fixes. Nothing worked.
So I enter all the account information on my Mac Mail, it it does not work. I go over to my Ubuntu box and fire up Thunderbird, it works. The Ubuntu box is on the same subnet as my Mac, so that eliminates DNS or network issues. I dowonload Thunderbird to my Mac, and email account works just fine. Hmm!?!
No matter what I do, I can not get Mac Mail to work on this one account, though other accounts work without issue. I have a feeling that it has something to do with how the password is encrypted, and that Mac Mail has changed this encryption. The other possibility is that the ISP, Verio.com, has changed something with their password decryption.
My client does not want to continue using Thunderbird as they really like Mac Mail. And calls to Verio just get the standard response that everything works for them (and it really does).
Any ideas what may have changed in the latest updates that would cause Mail to suddenly stop working?

    Hi obzidian.
If this started to happen as a result of installing a software update, chances are that you didn't install it properly.
Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the latest update (the one that appears to not have been installed properly). You may also need to reinstall the latest Combo Update for the type of machine and the version of Mac OS X you're using:
Mac OS X 10.4.7 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, and no applications should be running while installing it.

  • Keyboard shortcut for sending messages on Mail suddenly stops working

I've created a keyboard shortcut (Command + Return) specifically for sending manssages on Mail. When I open Mail, this keyboard shortcut works perfectly but suddenly it stops working.
If I close and reopen Mail, the keyboard shortcut starts to work again, but for a while.
    I'm using OS X 10.9.1 and Mail 7.1 (1827).

    Howdy Guilherme
Give this a try if you haven't already.
    System Preferences
    Keyboard
    Shortcuts
At the bottom of the left panel go to:
    App Shortcuts
If Mail.app isn't there, add it.
    Under it add Send.
Now choose your key combo i.e.
    ⌘↵
Worked for me mail Version 7.1 (1827) running OS X 10.9.1.

  • Outgoing mail does stops working

My outgoing mail stops working.  I have to remove the account and re-enter it to get it to start working again.  I started having this problem when I installed app killer.  I uninstalled, removed accounts and reentered.  This worked for a little while but my outgoing email is sitting in my outbox again.  This is a huge problem for me.  I do not want to have to keep removing and reentering my email accounts.

There are a number of threads reporting e-mail issues right now, especially with Yahoo and AOL.  You might try setting it up under 'Other' or using a mail service app.

  • HT1338 MiniDVI port suddenly stopped working

I first thought my external monitor or HDMI cable stopped working, but when I tried with my iMac, I realized it must be the port on the MacBookPro. I upgraded to Mountain Lion about a week ago and the external worked until this morning. Anyone else have trouble, or should I assume the port went bad? 15" late-2011 MBP.

Not sure if your advice is what fixed my port or not... I tried reseting the parameter RAM but nothing happened like you explained. I looked on Apple’s site on how to reset it, and their instructions were pretty much just as you described. (Except there were supposed to be two chimes and not three). Ithink pressing commandoption+pr had some kind of effect because the computer seemed to take longer to start up than usual. Unfortunately the USB port at this point still doesn’t work.
Finally I decided to take off the back panel, thinking maybe one of the gold pins on the Mobo were some kind of ground, and that they somehow (at-least one of them) were no longer grounding. I put the computer back together and start it up... And YES! the USB port works again!
You think it was a grounding issue? Or did I just need to take out the battery for several minuets?

  • Pop mail suddenly stopped working

I have been using yahoo.de for ages and it always worked using POP mail setting. I recently updated my contact info on the 3 Yahoo accounts I have (2 yahoo.de and 1 yahoo.com) but afterwards 2 of the accounts (both yahoo.de) will not access account via POP and comes up with this message:
Sending of password for user ******@yahoo.de did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: (#MBR1240) Please verify your account by going to https://login.yahoo.com
The third account which is yahoo.com is not affected and still works with POP
(and all accounts can still be accessed as Webmail.)
I checked all the settings on the yahoo.de accounts and they are totally correct but they just will not work with POP any more.
very strange and just can not solve this!
there is an error code (#MBR1240) but no idea what it means.

''re :Sending of password for user ******@yahoo.de did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: (#MBR1240) Please verify your account by going to https://login.yahoo.com''
    I presume you did this.
''re but for some reason the two Yahoo.de accounts just will not access POP mail ''
Can you check something and report back.
You have two Yahoo.de accounts, but how many Outgoing SMTP servers for Yahoo.de do you have?
Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server SMTP
You should have two, one for each yahoo.de mail account.
If you only have one then use the 'Add' button to create another.
Where the User Name and password for the mail account is also the same UserName and password used by it's selected SMTP server, even though all the actual server details will be the same.
You can use the 'Description' section to help you identify which is which as it is not used by server. You could type eg: Personal or Business or even the first part of the email address - the bit before the @.
then make sure each mail account is using the SMTP server with correct User name and password.
    Tools > Account Settings
    select mail account name
look bottom right for the Ougoing Server(SMTP), select from drop down box the correct one for that mail account.

  • Mail suddenly stopped working today.

I installed Leopard about a week ago. All was fine. I linked Mail to my googlemail account and .Mac account. Suddenly today, it kept asking for email password and wouldn't accept it. I got onto Virgin, my ISP. It appears messages are getting through to the site as web mail, but not now to my apple mail, on my computer. They said it is a problem with the mail programme. It won't receive any messages now, even though it shows its working with the twirly arrows, when I click 'get mail'.
    It's version Mail 3.3(924)
    Any help very much appreciated.

Hey could you or someone else tell me where the envelppe index file is please? I couldn't see it in mail/library. Sorry I'm not overly genned up on those things on my mac, I spend all my time using it for art stuff editing...
But I appreciate you trying to help me. When .Mac becomes 'mobileMe' I really want to be able to sync it I recently changed my key chain seetings as advised by apple for the thing starting in July. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my present problem?

  • Outgoing email suddenly stopped working this weeke...

I've seen may posts on this issue but not seen a solution that works for me yert:
I have a @btinternet.com email address and have been happily using this via iMac, iPad and webmail to send and receive emails no problem for a long while. A couple of days ago I started having the problem where I keep getting a popup asking for a passowrk on Mac Mail on the iMac and cannot send outgoing emails. I can still send/receive with no issues via iPad and Webmail.
I have changed no settings, deleted the account and recreated it several times with no joy. The outgoing SMTP server shows offline. I'm fairly sure the settings are correct though.
I have logged in/out of webmail several times as well.
I can send email via my @icloud.com email address from my iMac without any problems.
    Anyone able to help?
    Regards
    Gazza

    Password change does not work.
I have just encountered this issue too. Was working fine until the weekend then nothing, just fails on port 993 time out.

  • Icloud mail suddenly stopped working

I can no longer get any emails from icloud - everythime I try to update, I get a 'cannot get mail, connection to the server failed' message on both my iPhone & iPad. Anyone any ideas as to why?

i too also have this problem. i never had problems with it until today. then all of a sudden icloud email doesn't work on any of my ios devices. 2 iphones and an ipad.
i can send from the devices just fine and get the email on my gmail and any other account i send it to except to itself. so it appears only incoming mail is having a problem. i have tried resetting all settings, reset network settings, normal shut off, hard reset, changed my password to my appleID. nothing seemed to have worked. the only thing i haven't tried is to wipe the device to factory. i just don't think that would help considering the problem is happening on all my devices and seems to have occurred at the same time.
email works fine when logging in through icloud.com so it doesn't appear to be an account issue. also checked the cloud system status website and all it says is "all services are online".
any help out there? gmail and exchange have no issues.

  • Mail suddenly stopped working?

this all started a couple of days ago. i start up mail and i opens up and every thing but i cant use the program, if i switch to it it just has the loading rainbow circle thing constantly there. iv tried restarting my machine twice and force quitting then re opening mail, neither of which has worked.

Either click on Mail in the menubar of Mail if it will open, or open the Applications folder, control-click on the Mail application icon and choose Get Info. This is to check the version of Mail currently in the Application folder -- it should be Mail 3.5 (930.3). See the following:
Consider issues reported in updates from earlier versions of 10.5 covered by:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2486
    and
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mail_Update
    and perhaps even:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2383
Keep in mind that the special Mail_Update should not be run until you make sure only one copy of the Mail application exists on your Mac.
    Keep me posted.

  • MAIL suddenly stopped working yesterday

It will not go online anymore. I checked my server email via the Safari browser and I've got all kinds of mail accumulating there. I've sent myself emails from yahoo's mail and they do not get to MAIL anymore.
I've done a check via Sytem Prefs/Network/PortConnnections...all that stuff.
Nothing. I cannot force Mail to work again.
What the heck could have happened? How do I fix this?

Actually, what I ended up having to do was delete both of my accounts entirely. Then recreate them. All the email immediately began filling up the inbox.
    Weird.
