Use an earlier version of Firefox, use Safari, or upgrade to a later version of OS X. Any Intel Mac can run Snow Leopard.

My CF card reader no longer works with OSX 10.9

I am a video editor, I shoot my content on a Canon XF-305 which creates MXF files on CF cards. Until I updated to OSX 10.9 everything was fine and I used to insert the CF cards into my Kingston FCR-HS3 USB card reader and then import/convert the footage accordingly. However since the OSX update I can no longer access my video footage on my Mac. The card reader constantly throws up a generic error message through finder that says 'disk not ejected properly' even though it is still plugged in. I've only managed to import a few seconds using pavtube MXF converter before it all goes wrong. I have used FCP X, Canon disk utility, and pavtube MXF converter - all are up to date with drivers and software and none of them work anymore!
Just to let you know I've contacted Apple and all they said is to check all drivers and software are up to date - which I have done, although Canon has not released any OSX 10.9 plug ins or drivers yet - which might be a problem.
Kingston does have a firmware update, but only for PC.
My thought's were to go back to OSX 10.8 but apple told me I had to use Time Machine for this and the last time I backed up was ages ago and I will lose too much important data.
Someone please help???

Had the same problem with my Kingston FCR-HS3 Cardreader (FW 0123, bought Aug. 2012) when using it on my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 with MacOS Mavericks 10.9.1 on the USB 3.0 port. Trying it on my MacPro Early 2008 with MacOS Mavericks 10.9.1 on USB 2.0 port everything was okay.
When trying to update the firmware of my cardreader to version 0131 (on a Windows 8 notebook) which is only available for Windows, I had an error several times and could not update. After changing to another USB-Port on this notebook everything went okay.
Now my cardreader is working fine and I even notice a rise in transfer speed from 100 (before) to 120 MB/s when using fast CF-cards (600x or 1000x).

Those gray disks are machine specific and will only work with model of Mac that they shipped with.

Firefox no longer working with Mac OSX 10.4.11

i'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.6.12. As i understand it any of ur upgrades no longer work with this computer system. ( I tried to upgrade last week and ur site said upgrades no available gfor my platform version. Last week every time i conducted a search (default Google) i was redirected to http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=crossword+puzzles&sourceid=Mozilla-search.what gives? When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

One possibility, is a strange occurence when applying the big 10.5.8 combo, most people have to Repair Permissions twice in a row, then reboot.

I have downloaded the garage band update version 1 to my macbook with osx but the old version of garage band is what boots up, New features are not present.

I have downloaded the new version of Garageband in an update to my new 2014 macbook with osx but it does not open with new features. It si still the original window for the app. Help. I reviewed the updates menu and it says it was installed.

Yes, the newest GarageBand can open the projects from GarageBand 6.0.5.
GarageBand 10.0.2 is very different from GarageBand 6.0.5, it is more like a light version of Logic. It brings new features like drummers and arpeggiators, but dropped other importaant features like podcasts or the sound effect instrument. So you will want to keep both versions installed.
When you upgrade to 10.0.2, the installer will move your current 6.0.5 to a subfolder of Applications. On no account delete it, until you are perfectly happy with the new version. I am still starting my projects in GarageBand 6.0.5, set everything up with the easy to use GB '11 interface, and then add the finishing touches, drummers etc., in GarageBand 10.0.

S-Video adapter and analog TV works with OSX 10.5 but not Boot Camp 2.1(XP)

I bought a mini-DVI to S-video or composite adapter to use with an older analog TV. Works great with OSX 10.5 no problems. However, I currently have Windows XP running with Boot Camp 2.1 and it wont work with the TV. If I ever get an image it's three black and white fuzzy and distorted iterations of the monitor.
Since it works with OSX but not with XP i'm thinking its some sort of boot camp issue and not a problem with the hardware or adapter. Therefore, it should be solvable, right? Does anybody know how to fix this? Will upgrading to snow leopard and boot camp 3.1 solve it?

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disks and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, rerun the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterwards.

Will C4480 printer work with OSX 10.9.4

Hello. When I bought my iMac six years ago, I got a new C4480 printer which has sat in the loft, still in the box and unused until today when my "old faithful" bit the dust. The iMac is running OSX 10.9.4.
When I try to print, I get the messages "HP Supplies Tool cannot be opened because of a problem" and then "Photosmart cannot be opened because of a problem" ... and no printing.
I've checked Apple Menu > Software Update and there's no new software to download.
Will the C4480 work with OSX Mavericks or is it just too old?

Your Photosmart C4480 should still work on Mavericks. See the link below for all of the information you'll need to have it installed. I would suggest ensuring the printer will make copies to just test the hardware to make sure the printer is functioning properly.

"Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message is continuously popping up after the recent firefox update. I have nearly exhausted every possible solution to the problem as seen from the support page for this error message. I know someone who has the same issue on their computer and it also started right after the recent big update. Does the update have anything to do with this reoccurring issue? Is anyone else having this problem? Any other ideas on how to fix it? It would be great to get some help.

Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard no longer works after OSX update

After installing the latest OSX update yesterday (something about iChat encryption), Apple Bluetooth Keyboard no longer works with my iMac.
When I restarted the iMac after installation was completed, the iMac would no longer recognise my Bluetooth Apple wireless keyboard. I've tried with 2 other Apple wireless keyboards as well, but to no avail. None of them work with the iMac any longer. All 3 keyboards work with my PowerMac Quad G5 though.
The iMac "sees" the keyboards, but the pairing doesn't go through because the iMac doesn't seem to recognise the keystrokes when entering the pairing code.
I had to go out and buy myself a Microsoft wired keyboard to be able to restart the iMac (couldn't enter the login password without a keyboard).
My bluetooth mighty mouse works flawlessly though.
Very frustrating. Can anyone help?
