HT1338 Problems of getting Windows installed successfully for the first time...

My brand new hardware of Apple imac desktop OS X Mavericks serial no: C0*******8J5 is having a problem of installing Windows 8.1 despite I downloaded many bootcamp and other updates of software as advised by my Singapore Apple specialists. Can you provide me good links of what I should do because I am still struggling for almost one month already?

• Getting error while synchronising for the first time to get Device ID

Hi All,
When I am trying to synchronise for the first time to get device ID I am getting following error.
Could any body through some light on this please.
• Synchronization started
• Connection set up (without proxy) to: http://XYZ:portno/meSync/servlet/meSync?~sysid=MOB&
• Connection to server failed.
• Synchronisation problems: Transport-layer (http) sync exception raised (root cause: Exception while synchronizing (java.io.IOException: Not in GZIP format))
Regards,
Ameer Baba.

Hi,
please let us know what patch level your middleware is running on.
The mobileengine.config file is placed in the MI client installation directory in subfolder settings. On PC it is in
c:\Program files\Sap Mobile Infrastructure\settings.
From the URL you mentioned above you are using the "old" technology. Please go the service.sap.com/instguides and follow the setup guid for the old technology.
When you enter the URL directly into the browser you should get a LOGON popup. This shows the service is running. I would expect that you do not get this popup due to missing setup.
If you want to use the new sync service in SICF and you have configured this. have a look into the manual. In that case you are missing some settings on the MI client. The problem is, that the old MI client uses old sync service by default.
Regards,
Oliver

• Installing OBIEE for the first time :(

Hi
I am installing OBI v 10.1.3.4.1 for the first time. It is very different to other products I have installed. I have seen lots of documentation but am stuck on a couple of issues.
1. Connecting to an Active Directory.
I can create an LDAP connection in the .rpd and assign variables for USER and GROUP, but I am stuck on how to test of this works. I am not even sure I have set it up correctly. Does anyone have any documentation on this? What I have found via Google hasnt been too helpful.
How do I add AD users to OBI? Import doesnt work for AD, only LDAP.
2.
Using Oracle Smartview.
I have read the documentation as to how to provide a link to download smartview for end users, but dont know how to actually use Smartview with OBI. The doc says I need APS, which I have installed, but to deploy APS, you need Shared Services as well, it then gets silly... I just want to know simply how to u install OBI so Smartview can use it, then how to connect SV to OBI?
I can separate these threads into 2 questions if required, but they are both issues during my installation.
regards.

• Another problem when trying to open iTunes8 for the first time

I have just downloaded iTunes8 and after the installation received the message: - "iTunes has been installed successfully./"
However, when trying to open it, I too have a problem and the message I get is: - "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please re-install iTunes."
The previous version ran OK and I have de-installed it and re-installed it 3 times and each time I get the same message that it has been installed successfully but the same message sayind ome files are missing when I try to open it.
I have checked the QTime is up to date and it is. Anyone else had this problem?

I am getting this error message as well. I have just downloaded Lightroom recently. I try to click on Lightroom / preferences....and nothing happens. I tried to uninstall and it is greyed out so I can't do that either. Suggestions? Please help?

• [SOLVED]....install Arch, for the first time, am i doing it right?

The first try, it failed at grub boot(froze with blank screen), so now I'm going to install for the 2nd time and I need your help to confirm if the grub installation procedure below is correct.. (Thinkpad x61s-64bit machine)
# mkinitcpio -p linux
# pacman -S grub-bios bash-completion os-prober
# grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck /dev/sda
# cp /usr/share/locale/en\@quot/LC_MESSAGES/grub.mo /boot/grub/locale/en.mo
# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
# exit
# umount -R /mnt
# reboot
..or should i just use Syslinux instead? There won't be any other OS on the disk except there's a partition i made previously(ext 4) that i used for file storage purposes(music, video, docs etc) and the said partition now reside in sda4 and do not want to delete that as ive got so much stuff in it and my external HD is full. so i'll have to install Arch on sda1/2/3.
my partitioning scheme would be 2g swap, 20g root and 30g home.
Thank you

You could just use syslinux, but i guess you just had a bad timing with your installation there are a few bugs present with grub at the moment, which are actually already fixed upstream, but not yet available from the official arch repositories. Did you notice any bug messages when running "grub-mkconfig" ? There were probably some "syntax-errors", but they can be easily fixed (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/38234?project=1&cat[0]=31&string=grub); the method with "GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=y" works fine and you could fix it by "chrooting" into your system again from the live-installation-cd/usb. Alternatively you could enable the testing-repos for installing grub; this version works without the syntax errors, but there is another bug with multiple kernel-entries So the first way would be probably the best way to fix grub at the moment.

• Installing DsFW for the First Time, new tree?

I've been reading the documentation but there is some stuff I don't get.
It seems I can install into a new tree and choose the non-name-mapped deployment. Is this a popular choice?
Does this provide flexibility or limit it?
I read the following statement "Novell doesn't support installing other Novell products within a Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) partition." at Novell Doc: OES 11 SP1: Domain Services for Windows Administration Guide - Unsupported Service Combinations
I think that if I choose a non-name-mapped install then the entire new eDirectory tree will live inside the DSfW partition, or was that statement meant for name-mapped setups? Does that mean that we would not be able to install ZenWorks, Filr or GroupWise into the new tree? If true this suggests non-name-mapped setups are more limiting than name-mapped setups, and probably to be avoided.
Thanks for the free wisdom.
Background:
There is an existing Netware server 6.0 serving about 20 users as a file server but there doesn't appear to be any interest in migration or coexistance. A fresh clean tree is a core element of the plan so far. I'm thinking of three or four OES servers: Two DSfW servers (DHCP, DNS, eDir, domain controllers, SLP), a file server and a Filr server.
There is other stuff in the environment, including openSUSE DHCP and DNS, SLES application server, various other servers for databases and web stuff, Windows domain for 4 users to use Remote Desktop Services. A bunch of Windows desktops and a proliferation of mobile devices (hence interest in Filr is drive the change right now).
Hopefully over time the other servers will be part of the new eDirectory tree for authentication and ease of management.
If I choose a name-mapped setup, I think I need to install 4 or 5 servers: one eDirectory base server (Certificate Server and root partition), then at least one DSfW server (DHCP, DNS, eDir, domain controller), then file server and Filr server.

1. Install OES CIFS server on the first server. This will give a new eDirectory tree with a file server.
2. Install 2 DSfW servers (using name mapped mode) into the eDirectory tree. You have the option to choose the top most container (i.e. whole tree) or a partition for the DSfW installation / configuration. DSfW will install DNS service on the first DSfW server by default. It is recommended to keep the DHCP server on a non-DSfW server.
3. Install the Filr server on the fourth server
Thanks for the recommendations, Pavreen.
Please confirm the main message you are conveying is that a name-mapped installating is best. Is it true that the reason this is best is to allow other Novell products (ZenWorks, for example) to be installed? Is it also true that non-name-mapped installs are rare and offer few (if any) advantages?
When you say, with respect to the DSfW servers, that I have the option to install DSfW using the top-most container, are you recommending that the second server be a DSfW server with DSfW in the top of the tree? This seems to be the thing that is against the rules according to Novell Doc: OES 11 SP1: Domain Services for Windows Administration Guide - Unsupported Service Combinations "Novell doesn't support installing other Novell products within a Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) partition." But it also the thing I'm sure I don't understand (and hence the post).
In my reading I didn't encounter a hint that DHCP should be separate from DSfW. DHCP conflicts with DSfW specifically or it introduces challenges more generally with other OES components?
The number of servers (all Xen PV on SLES) will be chosen to accomodate flexibility. So I think I will not make the CIFS server the first. The first server will be the permanent "Novell Certificate Server" and I think I should make that small and simple to be sure that future upgrades or restore operations are less likely to create challenges for such a critical, and seemingly inflexibly permanent, piece of eDirectory infrastructure.
What do you think of this modification to your recommendation:
1. First server is OES Novell eDirectory "Novell Certificate Server" + DHCP + iManager
2. Then two DSfW servers (DNS). Necessarily name-mapped. The partition question, which was the thing I was least certain about, is still uncertain to me.
3. Then one file server (NSS, CIFS and NCP). I'm also inclined to have a second DHCP as backup.
4. Then one Filr
5. Then probably a ZenWorks server in the further future

• Installing Solaris for the first time.

I'm installing Solaris as part of a class project. And no one here has much experience with it. I've run into a few problems:
I'm installing on an D865GBF motherboard with integrated video and NIC. After a few thousand hiccoughs, I have gotten the OS installed and booting. However, I have a few errors that are holding me back from using the system for anything other than a knic-knack.
I occasionally get a "couldn't set locale" error. However since I switched from EN UTF-8 to ASCII U.S.A. it seems to have stopped. But I would like an explanation there if you have it 'cause it still confuses me.
The integrated NIC will not work (e1000g). I have searched through the forums. Done everything I understood, and so far have gotten it recognized. But it still won't work. No idea why.
The integrated video is recognized and set to 1024/768 75hz during initial config. However when I get to CDE or JDE it is stuck on 640/480 60hz, and I'm not sure how to fix it.
I have run /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig and reconfigured several times. I'm not sure of anything I am doing right or wrong as I said this is my first time. I also do not know how to run kdmconfig without the wiping the configuration.
Thank you for reading. I patiently await any help you can provide.

To change the resolution,
1. As root, switch to single user mode ("init 0")
2. Run kdmconfig, from there you can either select XSun, in which case you should be able to continue with kdmconfig to set the resolution, or else select Xorg, in which case you should use xorgconfig to set the resolution [I'm not sure if xorgconfig shipped with the original Solaris 10 or if it came with a later patch]
A+

• I 've just installed Firefox for the first time (v9.0.1) & can't save any bookmarks. I don't get an error message & it looks like my bookmark saved but when I go in to look at my bookmarks, there are none there.

I'm also having trouble importing my favourites from IE. I've gone through the steps to Import Data for Another Browser and it looks like it has worked but when I go to view my bookmarks it is still empty.

Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-bookmarks?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Bookmarks this.] You can look at the star in the location (address) bar. If it's colored, it usually means the page has been successfully bookmarked.

• Problem with running Premiere Elements 12 for the first time.

I have just purchased a download version of Premiere Elements 12.0 and have installed it on my PC running on Windows 7 (64 bit). On first running Elements, however, the program gets stuck on loading "mveH264Exporter.prm" and proceeds no further. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but same problem. I previously had Elements 10 installed and that was working. Any advice offered would be appreciated.

First we need to check , whether the LAN settings is set to detect settings Automatically or not.
Follow below steps .
1)Open Control Panel and then click on the option "Network and Internet" .
2)Click on Internet options, click on 'Connections' tab.
3)In the 'Connections' tab, select 'LAN' settings, you will be able to view the Local area network settings box.
4)Check the box-"Automatically Detect Settings" and then "uncheck" all the other check boxes like 'Use automatic configuration script', 'Use a proxy server' , Bypass proxy server' ,then click on ok button .
5)Click on "LAN settings" button again , make sure "Automatically Detect Settings" is the only option selected, keep the LAN properties window open.
Then launch Premiere Elements 12 and try to sign in.
If the settings were already set like that or you face same issue after signing in , let me know

• Opened Firefox this morning and it was like I had just installed it for the first time

What is going on with Firefox. Everything was fine last night. This morning I opened it to check the weather and what opened was a new Firefox asking me if I wanted to make it my default browser. All my bookmarks were there. All the add-ons were there but none of them worked and. I installed Personnas and it worked and then I closed it down. Now I went to open it and it won't open so I'm writing you in Google Chrome. I have loved Firefox but I think it's getting like Internet Explorer. Nothing but problems and doesn't want to work half the time. How very sad.

This may be a problem with preference that aren't saved properly.
