I have a MacBook 10.4.11
Gmail and Aol tell me I need to update and that I am running on basic mode in their mail service.
When I do a software update on my MacBook it says, I don't have updates available.
What do I need to do?

There are no updates anymore for the old Tiger 10.4.11 and it cannot run the latest versions of Safari, Flash or Java.
You could try upgrading to Leopard but that would probably set you back around $200. If a MacBook is Intel driven (can't recall) check if you can run Snow Leopard:

You need a paid upgrade, 10.5.8 is as far as 10.5 can be updated.
We need more info about your Mac to see if it will even be capable,

Have you tried hooking your iPhone up so you can see it in iTunes? If there is an update, you can check there and then download the update.

2009 MacBook Pro eh? It looks like your hard drive has failed. Three years is pretty standard. Often, then only hint you have is catastrophic failure.
If you put the old hard drive into an external enclosure or similar device, you may still be able to migrate your data from it. Just because it won't boot doesn't mean you can't still read from it. Still, I wouldn't keep trying it. As long as you are buying a new hard drive, may as well get sometime to use with Time Machine too.

What do you mean you're in the process of "downloading the installer for 10.7.3"? If you mean the software update combo, you won't be able to use that to go from 10.7.4 to 10.7.3. The only way you could do that is to reinstall the whole OS from the App Store IF that version is 10.7.3. I don't know if the App store Lion installer includes 10.7.4 already, but if it does, you can't get to 10.7.3 at all.
As for what you do about your slow machine, there are tips all over the internet. I wrote up some of the basic one's to try here:

Other possibilities not mentioned there are either a corrupt install of Lion (solution; re-install from the Recovery disk) or hardware failure (old hard disks and other hardware components can sometimes give out there last after the strain of a new install).

I have a Macbook version Mac os x softward 10.5.8. I recently purchased from your store Mac osx snow leopard. I downloaded the disc and went to software updates and I have 4. I hit the button to download and its says after waiting forwever en error has occcured. I keep trying and I can't get the download. I can't access my email account because now it wants the latest version. Can someone assist me with what I need to do?

It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.

Huh? Download from Time Machine to upgrade system version??? You have to buy Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. That is assuming your computer can even run either of them.

In order to download iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8, you have to buy OS X 10.6. It's available from the online Apple store, in the US by calling 800-MY-APPLE, or online here. After OS X 10.6 installation, run Software Update until there are no more updates available, at which point you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7.

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:

Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available.
