HT1338 Turbotax in app store says i need to update to Mac OS X 10.8.2

Turbotax in app store says i need to update my macbook pro to Mac OS X 10.8.2, and when I go to Software Update on my apple button to upgrade from my OS X 10.6.8 nothing appears as needing to be updated except iPhoto.  What do I need to do so my Macbook recognizes or can download the latestest system update?

If you need to upgrade to Mountain Lion:
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

I found it odd since i hadnt added any apps yet. it said there is an update for the store news app. but i dont have that app so i tried to install it and delete it to get rid of red update icon but it says i have to sign in with some strange email because it linked to that account. im lost and dont know how that is possible. can someone please explain how to get rid of it. remember I dont have any apps installed yet and i did clean install of sl.

  • TS1538 I have had issues for a week now. Cannot update or purchase from iTunes. Sign in appears then, before I can even input my info it vanishes. App store says I need 24 updates but when I press the icon to do so, it states that my device could not conn

I have restarted device several times. Have unplugged wireless several times. Have done everything Apple has stated to do on their trouble shooting page. Have called Apple seeking advice. Was told for 35 bucks they can help over the phone or choose the free email. I chose the free method and followed what they suggested! Still nothing. I am incensed that they want 700 dollars for this POS and then want 35 bucks for verbal customer service!! I will never purchase another Apple product again if this does not get resolved. I am so disappointed. Then to be told that "for a fee" I can get verbal help. I was told my product warrantee has expired,  I wonder if it expired as soon as I had issues. I am fed up! Looking for window to throw this out of or place it where an automobile is backing up.  I would like the last week of my life back spent trying to fix this hunk a junk!! Oh, they had no problems before taking my money for songs and apps! Why can't they help fix this issue!!

No one here works for Apple. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Everyone here is a volunteer. You tend to get from this forum what you bring to it. If you come in ranting and raving and saying you're going to throw your iPhone out the window and that Apple is mean, people are not likely to respond to you with sweetness and light and puppies and kittens.
If you really want help, I'd suggest you take a deep breath and then start a new thread in which you explain the problems you're having, the steps you've taken to resolve the problems, any error messages you've gotten. Stick to the facts. Check the attitude and emotion at the door. People will do their best to help you.
    Best of luck.

  • Why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice

This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.
    regards

    1. First step to solving the Problem: Trash MacKeeper. It's a pile of trash that does far more harm to your computer than good.

    2. What version of iPhoto do you have? (iPhoto Menu -> About iPhoto)

  • Took delivery of imac yesterday with pre-installed Pages, Numbers and Keynote. App store says they need updating but won't let me because I've never owned the major version of the software. I have paid like anyone else, so why can't I update?

You must be signed into the Apple Store with your Apple ID or it won't work.
    and
How to deal with a 100 Store Error:
Try here >  Mac App Store: "An unknown error occurred (100)" when purchasing
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type this exactly as you see it here;
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Preferences/
    Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.appstore.plist
    com.apple.storeagent.pllist
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Cookies
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • HT1338 App Store says I have six updates but when I click on update tab I get blank white screen

App Store says I have six updates but when I click on update tab I get blank white screen

    That's strange....
Under Snow Leopard (which is the forum you posted in), updates are done through Software Update.  Not the App Store.

  • App store says I have two updates but noting displays

App store says I have two updates but noting displays? any one have any ideals, by the way this is happing on both of my ipad mini's.

    Well, try this instead:
    From Demo:
If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.
I'm sure things will get straightened out with Apple's servers. Just learn to be patient.

Weird, that's not the one I was initially downloading but I think that is the one that installed, so I think that solves that.  But now the problem is that the one I was updating is no longer being shown.  It's over 1gb that had all the loops and instruments.
Now when I try to use say strings lunar strings.  It tells me to download at app store.  It doesn't show.  I go back to garageband try again and says the instrument or loop is currently being installed.  But it's not.

App Store says there is one update available. But the Updates page shows a blank screen. Have tried syncing with iTunes on mac as well. But nothing seems to work. Am using Iphone 5 6.1.4. Help

Next time that happens while on WiFi, turn WiFi off in settings, wait about 30 seconds or so, then turn WiFi back on. Sometimes you have to do this two or three times, but this fixes that issue as well.

It sounds as though your iPhone is having some difficulty accessing the App Store servers when attempting to sign in. I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • HT1338 trying to download numbers. says i need an update. latest updates installed

as the title says I cannot download numbers. Says i need to update but there are no updates available. Running 10.7.5......please help

You need to either download Mavericks from the Mac App Store first or buy an iWork 09 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay. If you upgrade the computer's OS, back it up first.
