HT1338 unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

Instead of using Bonjour to connect to the network printer I suggest you use the LPD protocol. To do so, open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add. With the Default Add printer view showing, click the IP icon in the toolbar. You can then enter the IP address of the MF5980dw, ensure LPD is selected for the protocol and leave the queue name blank. You can also change the name from the IP address to something more meaningful, like Canon Printer, leave the Location blank and in the Use menu, change to "Select printer software" and then browse for the MF5900 Series. When found and selected, click OK and then Add to complete the printer queue creation. Now see if this will print to the Canon.

  • HP LaserJet 4000tn: "Unable to connect to printer" (IP printing)

The two Leopard machines on my LAN (one wired, one wireless) have trouble printing to my trusty LaserJet 4000tn. Panther, Tiger, and Windows XP machines work fine.
The printer is on the LAN and I'm trying to access it with IP printing. It gets stuck at "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds…"
If I power-cycle the printer, it will print the job.

I've just read through the thread and I might know what the problem is. Your printer is probably getting an IP address dynamically (using DHCP). I've found this to be a problem in some environments because the printer will sometimes suddenly get a new IP address and the computers, having received a specific IP address when they were configured, can't find the address. As a matter of course, when I install a new network printer I allocate a specific address to it. The downside is that your router's DHCP configuration will have to be redone to save a couple of IP addresses for the manual allocation.

  • After mavericks upgrade unable to connect to printer

After mavericks upgrade on one of my two 2013 iMac, when I try to print anything on my network printer and plotter I always obtain this message: "unable to connect to printer" than printer pause and got "pronto per la stampa" (ready to print in italian).
I have a EPSON STYLUS PHOTO 1290 A3 color inkjet printer and an HP designjet 500 plus 24 plotter connected to a Windows XP machine under a Windows XP network.
Trying to print from the seconf 2013 iMac with OS X 10.8 (NON OS X 10.9 Maverocks upgraded) everything goes as usual ant printer works well as from other two Windows XP machine on the same Windows network.
Then apparently the "unable to connect to printer" problem is up to OS X 10.9

THis helped me. Had to share this!
Go to this link: http://macs.about.com/od/printersharing/ss/Printer-Sharing-Share-Your-Windows-7- Printer-With-Your-Mac_5.htm
Things to Keep in mind and setup first if your Server which your printer is connected to is a Mac Desktop like mine, otherwise the above instructions will not work:
    1) Make sure to have firewall set either to "Off", but if "On" then make sure set to allow SMB, Printer Share, and other devices. Thats a Biggie! (I suggest you Test first that you're indeed able to connect first to your Mac desktop server using the smb://YourServersFileSharingAddess.local, or cifs://YourServersFileSharingAddess.local. If you're not able to connect to your servers hard drive from your Laptop, then the printer setup will not work! So resolve this first and make sure you can connect using the mentioned protocols.
    2) When you see that you're able to connect, then go to your printer setup and follow the above links suggestion. Just make sure that when you enter the ip address which it suggest, that its the same ip or location name of your mac server which your trying to connect to, ie... (YourServersFileSharingAddess.local/NameOfPrinterConnectedToServer). Keep in mind that it is case sensitive and that if you have spaced in the name of the printer, its better and easier to just rename it and cut it down to just one name...no spaces! But if you must have the spaces, then use %20 to fill those spaces, ie... "My Printer name" change to "My%20Printer%20name".
    Then watch the magic!

  • Network host HPF.local is busy  -  Unable to connect to printer;

Recently when trying to print with a wifi bonjour networked OfficeJet J4680 this is the notice I receive, and it will never print.
Does anyone have any advice other than throwing the printer, or my computer out of the window?
Network host 'HPFBlah.local' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...
Eventually the notice will change to...
    'Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...';

Removing the wifi networked Printer from System Preferences > Printers, and then turning OFF the OfficeJet's wifi option, and instead plugging it into the Airport with a USB cable resolved the issue.

  • Printing unable to connect or printer switched off

Hi, just noticed something the other day when printing. I have an imac connected via ethernet to a AEBS connected to internet via modem. I also have a konica and oki connected for printing, via ethernet cable. Started to get message " unable to connect to printer, it may be switched off or IP address wrong." after latest update from apple.
    konica connected via bonjour,
    oki connected via oki tcp/ip.
Now if I start my konica and then oki I get a certain IP address for each model. As I'm printing via tcp/ip for the oki this is important. But if I start my oki and don't switch on my konica the Ip address for the oki changes! and it won't print but sits in the queue with the afor mentioned message. I then have to get the IP address again and change it in the system preferences. This is getting to be a pain. Even if system prefrences is locked, every time I start my machine it becomes unlocked.
Has anyone else had this specificate problem, could other people be getting this problem but not the IP message part.
Has anyone got any ideas. Also the new update is causing no end of problems with quark 7.3 but am working with a quark techician via email so hopefully this will be sorted. Any thoughts anyone

  • Unable to connect to printer will retry in 30 seconds...

I have upgraded to 10.6 and now can't print using our normal ethernet network, or print a pdf file.
In System Preference - Print & Fax, I have set up the 2 printers I use plus plus PDF 8.0 and 9.0.
I do have the latest drivers for these and the printers are seen as Bonjour printers.
But every time I go to print I get the following message "unable to connect to printer will retry in 30 seconds...", and if I try to print a pdf it looks like it is printing but no pdf is produced and no error message.
Also as on optionI have also set one of the printers up using the IP address, so it clearly sees the printer.
I have been able to use one of the printers but set up as a USB connection but I don't want this as a permanent solution.
    Help

When you go back to 10.5, the obvious is to back all work just in case.
So when I put my 10.5 OS CD in I selected the option that installs with the option of a "previous systems" folder as you will need to hook out various bits from it.
I had a few problems with Adobe applications not loading properly but was sorted buy searching the problems on the internet. Plus a few other niggles again sorted via the net.
If you are not overly confident of sorting problems I would not do it.
It took me a couple of hours to get back to where I wanted to be after I reinstalled 10.5.

  • My Mac is suddenly saying "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...".

Though my printer (which I've only had for 2 weeks, so this doesn't make me feel too good about my purchase that I'm already having problems) says it's connected to my wireless and my wireless is working for my computer, or I wouldn't be able to type this, I'm getting the message "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds..."
Why is this happening? Anybody. . . ???
    Help is much appreciated!

What printer?  What version of OS X?  What router?

I could not find a MF-4430 at the Canon site. Are you sure the model is correct? They have a MF4450. The Mac drivers are here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass _series/imageclass_mf4450#DriversAndSoftware
If you are sure you have a MF4430, look around the canon site for the drivers.

  • Help connecting Canon iR-ADV C5030/5035 to Mac

Help connecting Canon iR-ADV C5030/5035 to Mac
When adding this printer via IP, 'Windows' and also the advance tool everything seems to work correctly. Once printing it goes through as if it has printed yet nothing comes out. As if it isnt communicating with the printer. Have also downloaded drivers from the canon website for the printer for mac.
Adding another cannon printer (Canon iR C3200 PCL) the same way works fine and am able to print from this printer.
Any ideas or suggestions to help solve this problem?
    Thanks

With Dept ID enabled, you need to open Printers & Scanners, select the C5035 printer in the list and then click on Options & Supplies. Then select the Utility tab and then Open Printer Utility. With the Canon utility open you will see the Printer Information button. Press this to open the Printer Information window that will confirm Dept ID Management is enabled in the copier as shown below.
Click OK to close the Printer Information window and then enable the Dept ID setting and enter your Dept ID and PIN. You will have the option to verify that your ID / PIN is correct and select not to use Dept ID printing when printing in B&W only. With the settings entered press the Save Settings button and then Quit the Canon driver utility.
Now open a document and select to print. Change the print dialog to Special Features and ensure that the Dept ID Management setting is enabled as shown below. You can also press the Settings button to check that your ID / PIN is set and you can verify it works. If all is good then see if you can print from this Mac.

  • Unable to connect wireless print server while using wireless modem to ISP

Unable to connect an HP Laserjet 1320 thru the JetDirect ew2400 External Print Server to an imac G5 that uses the 2WIRE352 modem for ISP access thru ATT. Either the ISP is connected and works, or the printer works but no internet access. HP (after 1hr 15 min.) said I need to change/access the "infrastructure" in the OSX. Is that correct? & if so, how do I do this? Do I need to hire Apple Tech Support to do this? How much will that cost. I'm ready to send the Print Server back to HP for a refund.

I would post your issue in the Printing & Faxing forum area. More chance for some of the gurus like Greg Sahli to respond.

  • IP Printing Issue -- Unable to connect and print

I'm trying to print to a network printer that's connected by cable to my wireless router using IPP. The error message reads "Unable to connect to IPP host." The IP address I used for the printer was obtained from the printer test page. I also specified "generic postscipt printer" in the printer setup utility window. My printer and network info as follows:
    Printer -- HP LaserJet 4MV
    Router -- Linksys Wireless G
    Computer -- Powerbook G4, OSX.4
I've reset the printers in the Printer Utility to use the latest version driver for the HP. I can browse using my PBk so my wireless connection is working (in fact the PBk is in the same room as the router). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I don't have a manual for the printer and I'm not aware of a print server being included in the hardware. The printer is simply a HP LaserJet 4MV which has a I/O card installed with local talk, 10Base-T, parellel, and BNC connections. I'm using the 10Base-T connection to my router.
On the test page printout, it lists several things one of which is "Server Name" but it's blank with no entry. Under the heading "Mode" the entry reads "Queue Server." Don't know if any of this is relevant.

  • Unable to connect to printer wirelessly

I have an Hp Officejet 7612
My computer is running Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1
I am not able to connect to my printer wirelessly.
When trying to add printer, after selecting "Add network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer", my computer is not able to see printer while serching. I try to add printer manually by typing in IP address or hostname (either one), an error message occurs.
Printer wifi is on and connected to the same network as the computer.
I have restored network settings to default in order to try and fix issue.
I've tried this on a number of other computers, some running Windows 8.
I have disabled computer firewalls and computers still can't find printer.
It is as if the printer is...invisible!

    Hey @chriswalkenspal ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you have your printer and computer connected to the same network and you are unable to connect your computer to your printer.
You say you are trying to add a printer, but have you installed the printer using the device driver CD or online driver  download tool ? If you haven't you need to do so and you won't have to add a printer because that is all done in the installation.
If you need the instructions on how to do so, let me know and I'll be more than happy to show you how to do download it.
Have a great day and let me know what else I can do for you.
    I worked for HP.

    any other suggestions?
Reset the printer to it factory defaults.  Use WPA2-AES encryption in your router.  Try another fixed channel, never 'auto'.  Power off both printer and router.  Power on router, wait 2 mns.  Power on printer and connect to your SSID with your password.  Now try.

  • Message 'computer unable to connect to printer' appears during installation of laserjet p1102w.

During installation of wireless software for Laserjet P1102W on computer with XP Professional (pk2), the message ' printer was able to connect to wireless network.  However, this computer is unable to connect to the printer.'   I verified the computer and printer both connected to same named network with same WEP , open, key, etc. credentials.  I have a linksys connected to the computer and cable modem. When I connect using the USB connect wire to the computer directly, I can print.   Both software, wired and wireless, were loaded.  My HP Inkjet printer is wired to the linksys and works for multiple wireless network computers. Do I need to have a different printer? I thought i could still have a truly wireless printer!?!  I am a novice at this.  Thanks for any assistance you can give.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I called HP support.  The tech was very knowledgeable and helpful.  The HP Smart Install program (in printer and on CD) that came in the box  was an old version.  I needed to reset the printer back to factory default and  download the new firmware from HP.com internet site.
The older software had an incorrect router address (network). You can see the router (IP) address when you do the Self Test (holding down the 'on' button) under network Information.  The IPv4 address should be the same as your router.  Now my printer and computer are looking at the same network.
Works great!  Love this LaserJet.  Faster than my last HP LaserJet 4L.
