I have just downloaded the latest itunes version (11.0.1). All my data cannot now be located, though the library is showing all the correct content. The data is stored on an external hard drive. How do I tell the library where to find it's data?
The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.
To organize your library properly see Make a split library portable.
If you don't have a working version of the library that can be transformed into a portable shape I have tools and techniques that can repair the broken links.

I downloaded the latest iTunes version and now get the following error message: "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes." Can anyone provide suggestions on what I should do next?
Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now? -
While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please
That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

My Mac laptop was running fine till I downloaded the latest itunes version this week, now all the programs are slow, ITUNEs cuts in and out. Anyone know what I did wrong?
Hello Mark Malecki,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are having some issues with iTunes on your MacBook. You may want to isolate the issues further by testing to see if they persist in a new user account:

i cannot find apple tv (1st generation) under devices after downloading the latest itunes version.
cannot stream any pictures or music
any suggestions?Welcome to the Apple Community.
If restarting everything including your router doesn't help......
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted. -
I have selected to download the latest version. Everything was great before. I now get "can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing" and a 2nd pop up Error 7 (windows error 126). Please can anyone help. I have repaired, removed and installed, and every time the same

Cannot download the latest itunes version
"the version of iTunes cannot be removed contact technical support" and the box comes up stating-
the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Tried downloading on the itunes.com site under both windows explorer/google chrome unsuccessfully.
I want to connect my iphone 5 to retrieve my itunes library after this, please help!(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
What is my next step?
If you're using a fourth generation or earlier iPod touch, click here and download the software.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and an Intel Mac, buy Mac OS X 10.6 from the online Apple Store and run Software Update.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and a PowerPC Mac, buy a newer computer.

i tried to restart and re download everything and it still is doing the same thing. this keeps happening alot and i have to end up taking the ipod to the apple store to have them erase everything on my ipod to restart it. is there anything i can do at home to fix it
Have you tried to put the device into DFU mode?
To put the device in DFU mode,
1. Connect the device to iTunes
2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously
3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed
4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.
I hope that helps.

I can't download the latest iTunes version
The message says the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable?
Which particular .msi file (or files) does the message (or messages) go on to say cannot be found? (Several different .msi files might be mentioned in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)

I am unable to download the latest version of Itunes.
I am unable to download the latest version of Itunes. The message reads : "Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes.
Error 7 (Windows error193)".
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanksThank you Roger for your detailed explanation of how to resolve my problem, but it turns out that the Firefox did not like the download and when I went into IE it all went smoothly. But I did learn a lot from following your instructions.
