  • HT1338 Updating software installed list as it is inaccurate.

Just bought and setup a new mac mini. App Store shows two updates (garageband and iphoto) App store says can't update until I buy. Software update says no updates available. Downloaded standalone updaters but they won't install as they say I must update through App Store...
These are minor updates (9.2.1 to 9.2.2 for iPhoto, and 6.0.4 to 6.0.5) that should not require any purchases. Doesn't Apple recognize installed software?
    Advice appreciated.

I had already sent a request to Apple's Express Lane. In the mean time I tried something new. I clicked on the name of the app (Garageband...) and was taken to its full listing on the App Store. I then clicked on the Update button in that page and the app updated itself. I tried it with the remaining app iPhoto, and it did the same. Problem solved.

  • HT1338 have mac os x 10.5.8 Adobe flash player wont update without 10.6 version, when i hit update software says i have latest.

I have been having a problem for the last week.  Use pogo.com and it wanted me to update the Adobe Flash Player to play 1/2 the games on the site.  When I updated it said needed os x version 10.6 or higher for latest version.  Currently have os x 10.5.8 when I hit update software it says that I have the latest version of software and doesn't update.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • HT1338 how to update software from 10.5 to 10.7?

how to update software from 10.5 to 10.7?

You need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store, and phone them and order a download code for Mac OS X 10.7. Mac OS X 10.7 requires a Mac with a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM.

I have version OS X 10.6.8, should I update software with Lion or Mountain Lion ??

Read this for apps that are lost whe you go to Lion: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
But you have more options that you suspect, I think.
You can clone (CarbonCopyClone, $40 download) your drive to an external.  This is wise before any upgrade to be able to recover if the upgrade fails.
But also you can keep a SnowLeopard external drive to run your older apps and to preserve your "fallback" in case you decide to go back (I am *not* bashing Lion or ML, just saying some people do want to go back).

  • HT1338 downloading software updates

If I bought a MacBook Pro and an IMAC used from someone else how am I to update software that was originally downloaded using their (the people who I purchased it from) apple Id?

They're free if you buy a new Mac or iOS device. They aren't free if you buy a used Mac or iOS device.
Here's the thing: If the previous owner did things the way they're supposed to be done, they would have sold you these Macs with a base OS (the one the machine shipped with) and nothing else installed, no user accounts set up, nothing. In factory condition, IOW.
Read all about that here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5189
The third-party software, or after market Apple branded software the previous owner bought isn't normally transferable to a new owner. This means that you'll have to buy any software you want beyond the OS the machine originally shipped with.
And that means that if the machines you bought originally shipped with OS X 10.6 (for example), and you're running 10.9 right now, then you may find yourself having to erase your drives and reinstall 10.6.x onto that machine, then upgrade to 10.9 through the App Store using your own Apple ID, because if you don't, you'll have to apply future OS X updates using the previous owner's Apple ID, too.

  • Problem with iTunes and/or updater software??

I just bought a brand new 30gig iPod video. I followed apple's "instructions" and installed iTunes and the iPod software off of the included cd. I then connected my iPod and it charged but itunes never recognized it. Windows can find it (it appears as an external disk drive in my computer and iPod in other places) but iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. I have tried resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes/ipod software using the install cd, i have tried downloading the latest software from apples website and installing it that way, I have tried everything but restoring the ipod because the updater software won't even work. every time I try to use it, it just says "Service Error". I really have no idea what to do. The iPod seems to work fine, it turns on, turns off, windows seems to recognize it, but iTunes won't recognize the iPod and the iPod updater software doesn't seem to work at all. The last thing I am going to try is wiping my computer harddrive (it needs it for other reasons, not just this iPod problem) and starting completely fresh with nothing or very little installed besides iTunes and the iPod software.

The article posted in the first response is a great place to start. If that doesn't work, try these out as well:

Here's the deal I did that now the Ipod just blinks the circle with the line through it and says do not disconnect. Nothing happens. Has the new software corrupted my Ipod? Can anyone Help

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • II have downloaded several Apps that state they work with iTouch but they will not install and give error message that I need updated software, while all my updates available are installed on both iTouch and my computer iTunesWhy will Mindtools app not

My iPod Touch will not function with certain updated apps ie MindTools, YP.com, Mint, Ymessenger etc and I get the error message that I need to install updated software to load these apps to my iPod Touch; however, I have double checked and all the software updates have been loaded in obht the iPod touch and my computer. There are no updates availabe; yet the error message on App is a software update is required for App. "was not installed because it requires a newer version of iPod software."
The iPod Touch is using 3.1.3 software and it tells me that is the current and updated software version.

You are correct in that your 1G iPod Touch has all the latest software updates.  It can only be updated to version 3.1.
However that Apps you are trying to download and install likely require iOS version 4.0 or later, which is not compatible with your iPod Touch.  So either you'll need to buy a newer iPod Touch or find other Apps that are suitable replacements if possible.
    Sorry.
