HT1338 What if doing this says that my software is up to date, but it isn't.  Im running Mac 10.5.8, so I can't get itunes 10.7 which means i can't put music on my iphone 5!  I am beginnging to think I should just take my iphone back because this is ridic

I am trying to put songs onto my brand new iPhone.  I have itunes version 10.6.3 and it says that I need 10.7 or earlier in order to sync the IPhone, so I found that download, attempted to download it, but now it says you need Mac OS X 10.6.8 or better.  I'm running 10.5.8, can't find anywhere on the website an option to update my computer to 10.6.8, tried the software update option and it comes up saying my software is up to date.  I am now extremely frustrated and ready to take my iPhone back to future shop and to tell them to keep it.  I had this exact same problem when I got my new iPad in october.  It still doesn't have any music on it because I could figure this out.  Someone please help!

Correct.  When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box.  This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands.  It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.
10.6 software is not downloadable.  You must purchase a DVD disc.  You can order it from the on-line apple store

  • HT5784 How do i install this update because it says that my software is up to date (and obviously it isn't)

    help me

With a few exceptions, Software Update usually does the right thing here.
Please confirm which patch you are looking at; is it the one referenced by HT5784?  (The titles around here sometimes change, and references to various updates do get added to posts.  That HT5784 is for 10.8.4, though your footer indicates a 10.7.5 version, too.)  I think the phrasing of that article is a little confusing; if I read that correctly, 10.8.4 includes the cited security update.   That security update was available separately for previous OS X versions.
Here's the download link for the Mountain Lion Security Update 2013-003, which looks to be the latest available update.  Software Update should have already offered that installation.
For other patches and other versions (and again, I'd expect Software Update to do the right thing here, for most cases), here are the downloads for OS X and here is a write-up on the various security updates (HT1222).

  • HT1338 Every time I try to do a software update it tells me that my software is up to date but it's not I have version 10.5.8  Any ideas on how I can fix this??? thanks

    help...

    Hello,
10.5.8 is as far as 10.5 can go, there haven't been any "updates" for some time for 1.5.x, what you need is a paid "Upgrade", but to see what might work on your Mac...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

  • Firefox and Thunderbird get locked into 'processes' which means I can't open either program because it is 'already running' - I asked this B4 but I crashed and lost bookmark.

After I open Firefox or T-Bird, use it and then close it it stays running in 'processes' when I open Task Manager. When I try to open it a 2nd time it won't open because it's 'already running.' When I check Task Manager I find it listed twice in processes but can only 'end process' for one of the two instances. Then I need to restart the computer B4 I can open Firefox for a second time. I posted this previously but my PC (Win 7 Prof, 64 bit with 4 AMD processors and 8 GB of memory) crashed, I had to reformat the hard drive and hadn't backed up or printed out my bookmarks, so I can't find my way back to the area where 3 people said they had the same problem.

Thank you. I just downloaded it on Tuesday but I'll uninstall it and reinstall it tomorrow. I haven't been to bed since getting up Tuesday morning and I'm going to shut this baby down and get there. Thanx for your help. -Bob Miller

My ATV2 is bricked after trying to update. Worse, it won't connect to my Mac via USB.
    Unlikely.
Try connecting to a different computer, or simply a different USB port.
    Try a different cable.
Worst case scenario, take the device to an Apple store for evaluation.

  • Can't get itunes to install

I had itunes installed on windows, but recently had trouble with the ipod displaying as a drive. In attempt to fix that, I uninstalled, then reinstalled itunes & Quicktime. I also went into program files and deleted the ipod updater folder and the itunes folder.
When I reinstalled itunes, it didn't recognise the ipod however was displaying as a drive in the pc. So I then uninstalled itunes / Quick time and deleted all the folders again and then also deleted the temp files in local settings. Now I can't get itunes to install at all!
    Can some help please!!

    hi Froudy!
    is this your error message?
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b

If I buy more iCloud space and back up my phones to that will I still be able to get everything from my iTunes on my phones that way?
Backing up your phone isn't really relevant. You can download items you've already purchased (from the iTunes Store on your Mac) to your phone. If you have items you didn't purchase, e.g. ripped CDs, you would have to subscribe to 'iTunes Match' ($24.99 p.a.) to be able to do the same thing with them.

  • My computer crashed and dont have itunes backed up, how can I get itunes restored.

my computer crashed and dont have itunes backed up, how can I get itunes restored.

Your media is only where you put it.
If you have failed to maintain a backup, then you may seriously be out of luck.
Apps can be redownloaded as many times as you like.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, then it is possible to redownloaded music via iCloud from the purchase history in iTunes.
Outside the US, you can try contacting iTunes customer support.  Just keep in mind they are under no obligation to assist simply because the customer failed to maintain backups of the customers purchased content.
