While on vacation my computer scanned for local wi-fi, why does it continue to scan at home with my secure wi-fi?

This is normal. Your device is NOT constantly looking but only looks again when you click the airport icon. You may want to change networks or you may have come into the range of a new network that was not previously in the list, you see.
This is the case whether the box is checked or unchecked pertaining to "asking before joining new networks" in the system preferences.
Think of the light which only comes on when the refrigertor door is opened.

Why is my iPad searching for region

Am setting up new iPad. Have set date and time manually. Why is iPad, in Settings/GENERAL/international still searching with its wirzzy wheel for region when I have set date and time manually?

I submitted this on behalf of Lynp60 (new to iPad) and perhaps I wasn't specific enough.
I not only set Date & Time manually, I also set the Location (London). When I set up my son's new iPad it located the Region immediately yet Lynp60's is still wizzywheel-whirling searching for the region after 5 days!!
I am hoping that a factory default re-set will do the trick but I haven't got round to that yet - so in the meantime, if anyone has any pointers in this respect, it woud be appreciated in order to keep the new-to-iPads on side!

Why does it keep searching for files

When I record in another studio save files to HD get to another stuidio pull up song it keeps asking to search for files.

Well that's how the file structure works. If you record to a folder located e.g. in ~/Music/Logic8/Soundtracks/title/cue1/Audio files/ and move the stuff to another computer those files must be located in exactly the same directory on the new computer in order to show up in your project. If you look into the bin you see that each file has a description where it's location is. If it's not located there Logic can't find it and asks you to locate it.

After the update why can't I search for anything?

I updated my iTunes to 10.2.2 this morning and have had various odd things happening. Including strange things with the iTunes Store, and also my Home Sharing bombing out on me. It just occurred to me that I haven't restarted my MackBook in a while, and then I remembered that Software Update didn't ask for a restart after updating iTunes when normally it does.
Anyway, I retstarted my Macbook, and my iTunes now appears to be behaving itself. The Store is fine and I have Home Sharing back on my iDevices too.
I'm sure you've probably done a restart, but maybe like me, you haven't, as to be quite frank, I rarely have to as nothing really goes wrong.

Why does my iphone search for signal??? You're a genuis if you can help!!

This is going to sound insane but a couple of days ago, I got into work and my phone stopped getting signal. It would just say "searchign..." for ages, then pop up full signal with an 'E' nect to it for a second, then go to one bar of signal, then go back to searching. Now I Googled explainations for this and people said it may be a 'bug' from this 3.1 update or whatever (I know nothing about phones). Here's the mental bit, this only happens when I get towards work. Not just in the building, but about 1/2 a mile before i get to work my singnal goes, won't come back all day even when I'm outside then on my drive home it comes back again. I have worked here for a few months now and never had a problem. My phone works fine every evening. Seriously how do you explain this??? Please please PLEASE help me it's doing my head in! I've tried rebooting it a few times by pressing the lock and home button?? But that hasn't worked.

Have you bothered to contact your carrier to see if there is a tower outage/problem in the area? Believe it or not, these things do happen.

HT1338 Why can't I search in my toolbar anymore?

I now have to open google up in a separate tab/window but I used to be able to just put my search straight into the toolbar. A small thing but it's driving me nuts! It seemed to happen after my son had been playing around on it.

I've tried dragging the default toolbar back but this doesn't work. The reader button is white rather than grey so I can't click or drag that, I'm not sure if it should be like that.

Why does the security code for my home network not work with my hp6500?

I have a HPOfficejet 6500A Plus and am running windows 7 on a Dell desktop. I've tried to get my printer to connect to a home network and every time I type in the password it won't connect...it fails the security. I've always used the direct printer cable to connect one of my desktops to the computer and am trying to get the wireless featur to work...it won't.

Why does my computer freeze on Yahoo home page downloads and how do I shut off the Mozilla support page ?

When I try to download an article on Yhaoo home page the download freezes the computer and I have to use the " control alt delete " keys to turn off the download and get the computer running again.

I can't search for apps in App Store why not? Genius still works but not search?

I have same issue. It will let me know to update apps.
But if I want to search an app my friend may have. Nothing comes up after typing it in the search bar.
Same with the featured apps or the star charts , nothing comes up.
Now I just updated my iPad and so far so good. But my iPhone 4S is the problem since upgrading to ios6.
What to do.....

QT movies won't open, just search for clip, and then error 128

I have filmed a lot of digital movies when I was an undergraduate studying film and I exported them all as quicktime movies to save in my computer; however, for some unknown reason, whenever I try to re-watch those movies, QT searches for "Clip 01" or whatever and says that it cannot open the movie without this clip, and then gives me "error (-128)." What is up with this? I thought once I exported the film as a QT .mov that would be the only file I needed. I don't understand why it needs to search for a clip. Thanks for anyones help, I'm trying to piece together a demo reel and now I don't have access to about 75% of my work.

When you "Save as" QuickTime Movie you get two choices... Reference movie and Self contained.
Self contained creates a movie with all needed media (video and audio clips) within the .mov file.
Reference movie creates a very small file that tells QuickTime where to find the clips to play and does not copy those clips into the mov file.

Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text. Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

How to search for coloured tags ?

Hi all, I have often been amazed by the speed and accuracy of Searching for Files on my MacBookPro.
As powerful as this SEARCH facility is, recently I wanted to search for a file that I knew had a RED tag assigned to it.
I couldnt find how to do that, it sounds so simple, but, as far as I can see, it cannot be done !!!
I would have thought that it should be easy to do, it is quite an important and useful thing to do, to be able to add coloured TAGS to files, so why can't I search for them, by colour ?
Please. I dont doubt that someone, somewhere knows how to do it, if so please let me know, so I can do it as well. Thanks

If you search in Finder, you can search for a tag in the search field.
You can also select a Tag from the Sidebar and it will list all files with that tag.
You can Arrange by Tags, too.
It doesn't appear that Tags are a search criteria in the Spotlight menu, though.

UIM Installation in MS (VM 2) fails as it searches for files in AS (VM 1)

Dear Gurus,
Scenario:
For UIM installation, 2 Virtual Machines (VM 1 & VM 2) with no shared disk given.
VM 1 hosts Admin Server (AS) & Manage Server (MS).
After creation of domain, the directory structure is copied from VM 1 to VM 2.
Ran the UIM Installer on VM 2 with intentions to install UIM on MS running on VM 1.
Issue:
When UIM installer tries to deploy the application on MS (target server) it fails because it cannot find those files i.e. OracleCommunications and UIM folder in VM 1 which were created in VM 2 in the process of installing UIM. It still baffles me why it is not searching for the files which were created in the current VM (VM 2) but instead looking at VM 1 which were non-existent. With the same architecture, installation of OSM works perfectly with no similar issue. Basic intention behind this architecture is to segregate the Admin tasks related to Server & UIM app.

I"m sorry you're unhappy with Sun products. Many users will have different opinions.
Many of the issues we see often have had "technotes" published about them. However, many folk don't seem willing to look those up.
Many folk also don't seem interested in looking at the documentation, either.
Yes, our documentation can be confusing. Ours, and others, too.
You always have the option of moving to other vendors, anytime you wish.
In a direct comparison between Messaging Server and Exchange, however, our product looks pretty good. It's easier to maintain, handles far more users, at a lower cost per user, and is more stable.
How many Exchange servers would you need (and how many administrators) to handle 500,000 users? JES Messaging Server can do that all on one box, with very few admins.
