  • I have just bought a 2nd generation iPod touch , it has been reset to factory settings and has no option to update it ? How do I do this ? Also it will not show up in my iTunes or my computer could someone please help??

Please help as it is starting to look like I have wasted money
I bought an iPod touch 2nd generation and it won't let me download anything as it no been updated I know I cannot get the recent update but how do I get an old one ? , also it is not showing up in iTunes or my computer so I cannot put songs on can someone please help ??

The 2G can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. To find apps for the 2G
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
    To update to 4.2.1
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5 and later.
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes as far as your iPod model allows
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later.

  • My ipod Nano generation 7 shuts down unexpectedly while using the NIKE  app, has anyone experienced this problem?

My ipod Nano generation 7 shuts down unexpectedly while using the NIKE  app, has anyone experienced this problem?

This is not a problem I have only had with 7th gen. iPod.  I have had this problem with the 5th gen.  It goes back a few years.  Nike and Apple are aware of this.  Nothing has been done.  It appears that when the iPod voice commences (whether to update you on the status of your run) and you touch a button to prompt a mileage update or song change yourself (or even brush the device wrong when taking off a jacket), the operating system overloads and cannot sort it out.  It then shuts down and reboots.  Your mileage is lost.  So sorry.  Have a nice day.
Love the other aspects of running with a nano (small and light weight).  I can keep it high and dry and out of the way.  Like the software.  Use it almost everyday.  Hate the unknown dropped runs.  I have logged over 2,000 miles with these devices.  Today I lost another 3 miles - probably the 30-40th time it has happened.  Frustration is somewhere between time for another device to time for another system - Map My Run indeed!
This probably occurs with my iPod once or twice a month.  Went to the Apple Store - three times.  The first time was maybe two years ago and they first tried some magic dust and then on the second visit, they swapped out my nano - it was a bit flimsy.  The problem returned.  I then upgraded.  The problem returned.  The third time they did a reset and it seemed to help.  Then, it returned.  But to download an older software version, verify the fidelity of the UBS cable, jump from computer to computer, make a trip to the Apple store, and perform so many two steps on one leg just to get what we paid for seems . . .  well, lame.  And, Apple told us the thingy would work using all the different computers and software (Vista, Nike, etc. etc.).
Oh, one other thing.  The Apple Store told me to complain to Nike.  Nike said their software is fine.  This is like dealing with General Motors or the government - but, worse.  Not my problem man.  See the guy over there.  Got it.
I note that no one from Apple is jumping in the chain here with a fix.  So much for customer exuberance.  Generally like Apple.  We have about 20 Apple devices in our family (desktops, portables, phones, pods, tablets) and are lining up for the watches . . .  but, maybe Apple is an idea who time has come and gone, . . . like the wind.

My Ipod nano generation 3 is not being recognized by itunes as a device?  It shows it connected by doesnt sync

Thanks KT, after following your advice the iPod nano and the two cameras are now visible in iTunes or iPhoto and also in Finder.
The cameras continue to work consistently with iPhoto but since trying to complete a 'Restore' with the iPod nano I've had a string of error messages and it is now no longer useable. I'll be posting for help on this in the iPod discussion forum.

  • Can't download Itunes for Ipod Nano generation 3

I have just purchased an Ipod Nano generation 3. I have AOl dial-up and run on Windows Vista operating system. I can't download newest verison of Itunes because of Dial-up. What can I do? Can I get another early verison that supports both dial-up and Windows Vista?

It will work with dial-up but it will take much, much longer to download anything from the iTunes store.

  • Ipod nano generation 4 and 5 use the same case?

Does anybody know if the iPod Nano generation 4 and 5 use the same case? Thanks.
I'm looking for a neoprene case if possible. . but using with motorcycle so need the
case to have a back swivel clip for belt....and be secure.
I've tried ipod touches, but the clickwheel is easiest to operate and not have to look
    down at it.

Make sure you install the 1.1 update in itunes. There was some sort of fix for this in that update.

  • IPod nano (generation 4) got washed...

My iPod nano (generation 4) got washed in the washing machine. Is there any way I can "fix" it or at least make it better so I don't have to buy a new one? And if there isn't a way, does the warranty still work if the iPod was washed?
    Thanks in advance.

Well from personal experience after accidentally swimming in my pool with my ipod in my pocket I have to say apple has made a resilient peice of technology. After realizing the Ipod was in my pocket I shook all the water from it that I could and used a hair dryer on medium to dry it further. Finally I placed it in a window seal and left it there for 24 hours. When I came back to it I connected it to my computer and after a few seconds to my suprise the apple screen came up and it worked just as good as the day I got it. Dunno if you'll have the same luck but I think the key is to try to get it as dry as possible before trying to get it working.

I am from Germany. I have a Question to the iPod nano 1st gen replacement program: Can I upgrade to Ipod touch 8GB? The new Ipod nano Generation is too smal for my hands

Hello! Not a problem, because you will get a Ipod Nano 1st generation as a replacement, not a new / latest generation.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pockey and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

he advises restarting by inserting the OSX disc and pressing down the C button to reboot from there then selecting disk utility, hard disk and repair.... Does he mean me to hold down the C key on the alpha keyboard or the ctrl key?
Should I just ask for my money back??? If it is a simple repair do I just literally push the disc in, push the power button and hold down the C button?
That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

My old ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?
When I linked it it used the name I had given the ipod so it seems strange that it won't synch even though it is definitely connected.

I have a pc running vista and the hard drive crashed how can i transfer my songs from Ipod nano 5th gen to my new hard drive and into itunes

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

  • Ipod 5th generation started loosing its battery really fast and now it wont even turn on.

My iPod 5th generation is just over a year old and its screen is a bit cracked. a couple of months ago it started to keep its battery less and less and it would go to 100% battery after a couple of minutes and then when unplugged it would die just as quickly. For the past week or so I've had to use it plugged in as it was barely keeping any charge (1 minute) at the most.Last night I was using it and i unplugged it and put it on the shelf i presumed it would be okay through the night as i wasn't using it. But when i woke up it wasn't turning on at all and so i plugged it into the charger. The apple symbol came up for about a minute and then the screen went blank. I thought I'd leave it plugged in to see what would happen but it kept repeating the symbol to blankscreen process. If anyone knows whats wrong with it or how to fix it please tell me. as it took me a long time to save up for it and its a big loss of money for me.

    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I suspect that the event that  caused the screen problem as progressed and is causing the other problems.

Hi, I don't know which Apple ID I used to register my Ipod Nano. I had to restore my Computer and now I can't connect my iPod to iTunes again. I have my serial number and ECID. I'm using Windows, BTW, sorry!

Search your email for the word Logic (and set the search to All) and you should find the receipt (so long as you didn't delete it)
Other than that.. simply contact Apple directly and ask.. Make sure you have your transaction details ready for them as they will need it...
