HT1339 Ipod Nano stuck in restore cycle

I have 2 Ipod Nanos (Gen 2 and Gen 4) that were working fine until the Itunes 11 updates. Now when I connect them to the up to Itunes it states that they need to be restored. I try to restore but it just cycles back into restore mode and just stays in the loop.  I can take them to a Itunes version that I have not updated (version 10.4) and they restore fine and sync well. Unfortunatly I have to reload the operating system on the machine I have the old version on.
My question is 2 fold- 1- Is there a fix for these older IPODs that will allow them to work with the newer version od ITUNES? and 2- if not, how can I get an older version of Itunes?
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • HT1339 iPod Nano will not restore and is stuck in Recovery Mode.

The iPod Software is up to date (as is iTunes itself), and I recieve the following message after clicking "Restore iPod..." and supposedly restoring it:-
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
Attempting to restore it again (by clicking "Okay" on the dialog box and then "Restore iPod..." in iTunes) will repeat the above ad infinitum.

In some cases, the iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained before it can be reset so try these steps.
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or the computer and reset it.

  • My Ipod is stuck in restoration mode

My ipod is stuck in restoration mode and when i connect it to itunes its not recognized. I have the latest itunes and my usb cable does work.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Nano Stuck on Apple Logo

My Ipod Nano seems to be stuck on the apple logo. I tried a hard reset and it did nothing and itunes isn't recognizing it. When a similar thing happend to my Ipod Touch i was able to boot into recovery mode and restore a backup. Does Ipod Nano have the same mode?

    Hello Elektra2009,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am no guru when it comes to iPod touches, but I do know that nano has no feature like that. However, if you have already tried a hard reset, I would try manually putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363]. If you can do that, and get iTunes to recognize it, I think it would be an excellent idea to restore as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod Nano stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,
I recently installed iTunes 7 on my new work PC and connected my iPod Nano (1st gen) to it for the first time. I was told that iTunes had detected an iPod in recovery mode and it needed to restore factory settings. I proceeded with this, and after this completed iTunes suggested I needed to update the software on my iPod, which I also completed (from 1.1 to 1.3)
My problem is that every time I plug my iPod in, iTunes tells me that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, and needs to restore factory settings. When I do this, factory settings are restored, iTunes redects the iPod, and the same message comes up again, about iTunes detecting an iPod in recovery mode.
I seem to be stuck in this loop, and don't know what to do to fix it. I have tried all the obvious things (PC restart, different USB port, lastest iTunes software) but none of these seem to fix the problem. I cannot copy any music to my iPod.
I am very grateful for any help you can provide.
    Thanx

okay, that relentless "recovery mode" message can sometimes be produced by a Windows drive letter confusion. for troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:

  • Ipod nano stuck on locked

Help! My 1st gen ipod nano is stuck in the locked position and I can't get it to turn on. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I've toggled the hold switch and tried resetting it, I've connected it to my macbook and updated the ipod as well as restoring it. But the padlock icon is still present. My ipod doesn't turn on at all. And when I connect it to the computer, it is stuck on the language selection screen. I've tried everything. I'm currently traveling overseas, so I can't just pop into an apple store - plus it's out of warranty anyways.
Any ideas on what I can try? Please help!

Juiceejuice: I have the exact same problem.. I did the factory restore too, and i think it at least restored because I too am now stuck on the language selection screen. the padlock icon is still on though, and the scroll buttons don't work. Did you get it get it figured out? If so, how?

  • Ipod Nano stuck on apple logo screen

So my little brothers Ipod Nano 4th generation is stuck on the Apple logo screen. I've reset it a couple of times, but it won't leave the apple logo screen. I wasn't able to get it into disk mode, and my laptop wasn't regonizing it, but two days ago our desktop's Itunes recgonized it. Is there anything else I can do, or is it time to take a trip to an Apple Store? Any help would be, well, helpful

Since the desktop was able to recognize it, did you restore it in iTunes?

  • 6th generation Nano stuck in restore/recovery loop

My daughter's nano won't come back to life. It's a 6th generation attached to an iMac running 10.6.7 with up to date software.
Restoring it brings me to a panel that says iTunes needs to prepare your iPod for recovery. OK, so I click continue, which eventually brings up a panel that says iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode and that it must be restored. And back to the beginning, ad infinitum.
Disconnected, I can reset it, but the screen stays black and never gets to the Apple.
How can I break this cycle?
How far can I throw an iPod nano? I hope not to find out.
    Thanks in advance.

I had this exact issue with my iPod Nano 6th Gen. Spent close to 4 weeks on forums and found no solution. Ended up calling Apple Support and they directed me to a Service Company here in Singapore. But I was immediate faced with the dreaded UV torch, the torch they check water damage with. After 2 iPod Shuffles and now 3 iPod Nanos, I should know better. iPods are just fit for exercise,. no matter how careful you are, or what protective case you use. Nothing is going to protect it.
The current iPod Nano 6th Gen will have restart issues and require you to restore when connected to a computer, usually resulting in Unknown Error 1430 (VERY common error).
Result was I am continually told the iPod is water damaged and not covered. Seems the iPod range has a hyper sensitve water sensor, which even moisture on your headphone plug will set off. If you google iPod Water Senor you'll find hundreds of cases globally with the same issue.
This ***** cause the iPod Nano, particularly those that are Nike+ compatiable are heavily marketed as music players for exercise. But the reality is, they just can't handle sweat.
I also experienced this annoying reality with the previous iPod Shuffle, where the earphone controls continually broke down from moisture.
After 6 years of trying iPods for exercise, I am still waiting for one that is actually built for exercise.

  • Help! iPOD Nano stuck in recovery mode.

My 2G nano is stuck in recovery mode. iTunes always says to restore the ipod, but after the restore is done, the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." This hapeens over and over.

Have you tried fully reinstalling iTunes?
First, disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Start out by going to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel.
Find "iTunes" on this list, and remove it.
Then, go to the iTunes download page to install the latest version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
After that has fully installed, restart your computer.
After the computer has loaded, reconnect your iPod to your computer, and see if you still get the "recovery mode loop" happening.
Not sure if it would work, but I guess it's worth a try.

  • Ipod nano stuck in combination mode

My daughter has a ipod nano and went into "extras" and is now stuck with a combination on the screen and we cannot get out. can only scroll from number to number but cannot get bakc to main menu - HELP - please e-mai answer to [email protected] Thanks so much

Try this, connect the iPod to the main computer you use it with (if you use it with more than one, this is the first one it was connected to) and open iTunes. Then disconnect iPod from the computer, it should be unlocked: iPod: How to use the Screen Lock
If you can't get it unlocked you'll need to restore it. Just be aware that restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7

  • IPod Nano stuck in "lock" mode

My iPod nano seems to be stuck in the locked position - not "locked" because I created a password for it, but it simply displays the lock symbol in the upper left corner regardless of how many times I flip the switch back to what should be "unlocked."  Because of this, I have no control over it.  When I disconnect it from my PC, the screen turns black and I cannot operate it.  Battery is fully charged.  Have tried soft reset many times, restore several times - no luck.
    Suggestions??????
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello paolamike,
Not much for options here.  You'll need to have your iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company to have the hold/lock switch replaced.

  • IPod Nano stuck in charging mode

First generation iPod Nano is stuck in charging mode. I can still use the menu, select items, play music. It is recognized on Mac when connected. When connected to the computer, the battery icon in the corner shows it is charging, as normal. But when I disconnect from computer or from external charger, the battery icon continues to show it is charging. When it should go to sleep, the large flashing charging icon shows instead. It stays like that all the time. I can't even put it to sleep using the menu. It just sits there with the flashing battery icon until it completely runs out of power. I've tried to reset it several times. It goes through the reset, but continues to follow the pattern of thinking it is recharging when it should be asleep. Any ideas which part of it isn't working right, and what I might be able to do to fix it? Thanks!

  • IPod nano won't restore

I recently borrowed a 1st generation nano from a friend when my 30GB video iPod spazzed out. He's on a PC and I'm on a Mac but he told me to feel free to restore it and update it, whatever, because he doesn't use it much anymore. When I first plugged it in to my Mac, it told me to erase and sync, which I tried to do, but it gave me an error. So, I tried to restore it. It downloaded the new iPod software and as soon as if finished downloading, it gave me another error (-48) saying there was a problem with my network. I'm assuming it means my interenet network, right? Well, I've been on three different networks since then, and I get the same message every time. I've seached every where and I have no idea what to do. Help?

    Hi!
Thank you for replying – I did what you suggested but unfortunately it didn’t work After several restarts I managed to get the software to pick up the iPod Nano and I selected ‘restore’ but a few moments after the progress bar appears it suddenly says “can’t mount ipod” and exits. Within My Computer the iPod appears as a ‘Removable Disk’ but I cannot access the drive or format it – though within Hardware Devices’ Windows recognises it as an iPod.
Is there any way I can flash the drive with another piece of software so that the contents are deleted, then try to restore the iPod from scratch as it doesn’t seem to be able to read the drive contents properly?
    Thanks again
