HT1339 Restoring errors with iPod Classic

My iPod starting having problems after purchasing music from itunes.  It was having problems downloading.  Then it would freeze and turn off.  Now when I try to restore the iPod, I get a message that states there are restoring errors.  Any ideas?

I doubt that there is any connection to purchasing music from the iTunes Store, because those are just regular AAC 256 kbps audio files.
What you describe could be caused by the hard drive in the iPod becoming unreliable.  It may also be a problem with the connection between the iPod and computer.
Try shutting down the computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including any hubs.  Start up with only standard keyboard and mouse connected (if normally used).
Run iTunes and connect iPod to a direct USB port.  If necessary, do a Reset on the iPod (while connected)

Try doing a Restore again.

  • Ios 7 not compatible with Ipod classic

Ever since Itunes updated to IOS7 my Ipod classic that has been completely reliable for about four years is now unable to sync. I get a wide variety of responces from itunes while trying. It says the disc is not located, compatable, or sometimes it pretends to sync but only about 20 songs out of my 8,000+ songs were synced. I've tried everything from restoring (about 8 times total), trying to fix any bugs through my windows7 on the device, and only attempting to put on certain playlists- only to have the same results.
I do hope that the Apple people know of this problem and are trying to resolve it because I would be very irritated to find that I can no longer use my Ipod. (its 160 gig)
-If you know of anything that could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

iOS has nothing to do with the iPod Classic, it is used on the iPod Touch and iPhone.
Your Classic uses firmware (the operating system) 1.1.2. Nothing whatsoever to do with iOS.
I suggest you have a browse through the Classic discussions and iTunes discussions for anything concerning problems with iPod Classic syncing, as I have noticed a few posts on that topic. I have not experienced any issues myself with my iPod Classic, running 1.1.2 for PC.
Since there has been no update to the iPod Classic's firmware (operating system) for quite a while, the problems that I have noticed in the discussions, that mention partial Playlist syncing, additional songs not being synced etc. are more likely to be associated with updates to iTunes, which is now on version 11.1.38.

  • Problems in compatibility of iPod radio remote with iPod classic 160 GB

    Hi all,
I have just bought a iPod classic 160 GB and want to buy a iPod radio remote as well. However, after I have done my research, I find the radio remote is not compatible with iPod classic perfectly…
Do you think it is a good idea for me to wait a new radio remote (maybe) or later Apple will release update?
    Thanks

I use my Radio Remote with a Classic; it does everything that it had with my 5G-Video EXCEPT it will not allow me to set radio stations, either with the Radio Remote's control or the iPod's control.
I have spoken with an iPod specialist (Apple Care) and according to him Apple has acknowleged less than 100% compatibility/functionality with the Radio Remote and the Classics. One of the reasons, he stated, was that several 5G-Video iPods were "getting fried" when the Remote was not fully connected to the docking-port. So Apple has decided to reengineer the port [for better a connection, I gather]. What puzzles me the most about the new generation of iPods is why they were rolled out without warning customers that their Car-Charger, Video Player, dock, AV Cable, or APPLE'S OWN Remote will not play nice with each other!
This go around, it's find out the hard way.

used wrong charger with ipod classic, now it wont turn on, displays the low battery icon even though its connected to the wright adapter.
    Can anyone help ?
    please?

WHow long have you left it to charge?  Have you tried resetting it after a short period of time to see if that can help jumpstart the charging process? To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • HT1339 I have an iPod Classic.  No menu appear any more.  How do I restore factory settings.  I wanted to sincronize my iPod and then everything was deleted

I have an iPod Classic.  No menu appear any more.  Ican i Restore my iPod's factory settings?

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.

  • How do I fix a 1439 error on iPod Classic

iPod Classic not working at all.  Tried resetting with no luck.  Tried to restore - comes up with [The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1439).]  How do I fix a 1439 error?

I'm having the same problem as you (I think). My iPod Classic 160 gb got corrupted and I can't put songs on it. I tried resetting the iPod, changing connections, and completely reinstalling iTunes, but nothing has worked yet.
When I plug it into a usb drive on my Laptop (OS: Windows 7) it says "You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" If I click cancel, nothing happens and I can usually go to iTunes. If I click Format disk, a new window appears with many options (Capacity, File system, Allocation unit size, etc.). If I click start (no matter what options I chose), a message appears saying "WARNING: Formatting will erase ALL data on this disk. To format the disk, click OK. To quit, click CANCEL". Sounds scary right? None the less, a message always appears before the formatting can do anything saying "Windows was unable to complete the format."
When ITunes opens, a message appears saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I can click "ok" and the click the restore button, but after a while the load fails and it says The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1439).
This is really irritating! I just want to listen to music on the subway and bus! If anyone has any ideas or tips that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Unusual syncing problem with ipod Classic

I recently bought a new 160 Gb ipod Classic and the first one that came seemed to sync all my music but as soon as I removed the cable I got an Apple screen and an unresponsive ipod. Eventually Apple swapped it for a second ipod. I found it difficult to get this one to work properly although the hard disk on this one hadn't failed like the first one.
I did have to restore the new ipod at least twice and after the second time I decided not to sync all my music at once as before but selected a few genres to start with and it worked fine so I gradually selected more and more genres each time I synced it until I had all my music on the ipod. So all was fine.
After using the ipod for a couple of weeks or so with this I decided to try and sync the ipod by selecting All the music rather than by genre. As all the music was already on the ipod this didn't take very long to sync. As I normally play the music on random shuffle I selected shuffle and what happened next I've never seen before but the track that was about to be played appeared on the screen but didn't start playing. As I pressed the play button the track wouldn't play but the ipod jumped to the start of the next track and just kept doing that without playing anything.
I then stopped this and decided to sync the ipod as before by selecting all the genres. When this was done the ipod then played normally as before. While this is fine I'd like to be able to sync my ipod by selecting all the music as I've been doing for years with my old ipod Classic 80 Gb. Is there anyone who can explain what might be causing this problem to occur?

Ok here goes, after 6 weeks of restoring, resetting, putting device into manual scan, manually resetting, downloading itunes older versions, newer versions and all around fighting my ipod; I have had the same results. When restoring through itunes the ipod is "still named", now one would think when doing a full system restore on the ipod via itunes it would do a full restore and the name would be no longer existent, so not the case. I have gotten multiple error messages, this is the most prevalent, "The "ipod name" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified", another is in order for this ipod to work you must restore with itunes. I am thinking that there is problem with the new software, you see yesterday I set up a computer that has XP and itunes 7, the sync went without a hitch, no freezes, no long pauses, no problems. Then I made the mistake of hitting the button to update itunes "newer version", rediculous mistake. All of the problems are as pevalent as before, ipod will not sync, manually I can add movies and music but no more than 264 songs will add. My question is, why did Apple create this very nice, durable large player if they do not have the capability to serve they customers with the correct software?

  • Itunes 10.6.1.7 will not sync with ipod classic.  When is Apple going to fix this!!!!

After upgrading to the latest version of iTunes - 10.6.1.7      my iPod classic is not recognized and I cannot sync it.
The iPod does appear as a drive on my computer (with Windows XP).  The screen message syas the ipod is corrupted.  Did a disk check on ipod in disk mode and tried again.  No success.
    I've gone through the steps for troubleshooting;
It worked fine before I upgraded iTunes and I'm at a loss on how to fix this.

Try the steps listed on the linked pages in the answer below you up to the restore part. If it looks good, trying doing a System Restore in Windows XP to the day before you upgraded it, reverting it back to the older version of i-tunes. But, if something in the previous steps points to a hard drive issue, this won't help you.

  • Restoring/Formatting my ipod classic?

After replacing my ipod classic for a third time, the sales representative, to test my ipod, plugged it into his mac. The ipod began to optimize itself for a mac. he assured me this was no problem, and so I went on my way. When I home, I plug in the ipod and it sayed that the ipod had to be restored in order to work with windows. When i hit restore, however, it tells me that itunes was unable to complete my request and that I was unauthorized to download the software. What's going on, and how can I get around this?

Fair enough. The issue is that the ipod is unable to be restored/formatted. When I plug in the ipod and click restore, the message always states that I'm not allowed to access the software that the ipod requires to download; I've tried on 3 different computers and they all get the same message. It's possible that I may have to plug it into a mac to restore it, as it's been optimized for a mac, however I feel that that's just going to cause a repeat of the same issue. This is pretty much all the info I can give, unless there's something I'm not thinking of. Thanks for taking the time to try and help me out, by the way!

  • Can't restore a corrupt iPod classic?

So my iPod nano 6th gen died on me last night so I decided to dig out my iPod Classic %th gen and see if it worked. I turned on fine so I was like "Happy days!" untill I pulgged into iTunes.
When I plug it in I get this message:
So I went through the steps and then this came up:
I thought the problem was fixed but as soon as I plug it back in that process just starts all over again and I'm getting really frustrated with it. Is there any hope for it or am I stuck with a brick?

Try the DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic.

  • Restore problems w/ iPod Classic in Windows Vista

    Hello everyone,
I'm having something of a cyclical problem with my 160GB iPod Classic. The iPod has stopped working and displays the message "use Windows to restore" when I turn it on. When I connect the iPod to my computer to attempt the restore, I first get a message in a dialog box that reads "you need to format the disc drive E: before you can use it." When I choose the option to format the disk, iTunes opens and a new windows dialog box opens and offers to format the iPod, but stops shortly thereafter, with a new message reading "Windows was unable to complete the format." This happens when the iPod is in disk mode as well. iTunes does not recognize the iPod, either.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and what needs to be done to solve it?
    Thanks for your time.

    Thanks, Bilbo.
I ran the disk diagnostic two times and got these numbers:
    1st time:
    retracts: 114
    reallocs: 0
    pending sectors: 17
    power-on hours: 72
    starts/stops: 101
    temp current: 26c
    temp min: 18c
    temp max: 54c
I attempted a restore again, which failed, then ran the diagnostic again:
    retracts: 134
    reallocs: 0
    pending sectors: 17
    power-on hours: 72
    starts/stops: 103
    temp current: 28c
    temp min: 18c
    temp max: 54c
The only thing of interest that changed seems to be the retracts, but according to the article you linked to, 17 pending sectors seems to point toward hard drive failure. Can you corroborate this?
    Thanks again for your help.
    -Aaron

  • Photos display from Notes with iPod Classic, but not Nano

I have created links to 5 small .jpg photos in a single Notes file in an iPod Classic, and each link and photo works and displays just fine. However, when I use the same file and photos on a Nano, (copied the exact same file structure and content from the iPod Classic) the links work, but the photo displays as a blank white screen with "Oya" displayed in the upper left hand corner.
Any idea what causes the "Oya" error message to be displayed?
    Thanks

    Try this:
Use the click wheel on the ipod
Go to the Menu  >>   scroll through the Settings  >>  on my iPod nano 3 gen I can change the settings for Shuffle  & Repeat  >>  On or Off. Skip is not available.
May be on your iPod in the menu you could change the Skip  >>  On or Off.
