HT1347 I'm having trouble importing a CD into my iTunes library, then finding it later. Using the newest version of iTunes, and I had no problems doing this with the older version..

Today I was prompted to update iTunes, which I don't use that often. I found it was the newest version. Now, however, when I try to add a CD to my Library, I cannot find it. When I click import CD, it does not give me an option on where to save it to. I didn't have any trouble with the older version of iTunes, but now I am completely confused. I have read the file on Learn about iTunes, and it only tells me how to do it on the older version. Can someone please tell me how to do this now? I'd really appreciate it!
Oh, my OS is Windows Vista.

iMac optical drive problems are often attributable to heat. The newer Intel iMacs aren't as bad as the 1st Gen G5s were (I know... I had one), but Apple optical drives tend to "flake out" when they get hot, and in iMacs, they get hot quickly. Near the end of my iMac's life, I was ONLY able to use the optical drive within the first five minutes after booting up. After that, it wouldn read, write or even accept a disc.
If yours works right after a long sleep or shut down, but then goes to failing, it's probably heat.

I had Zotero connect to this with my older Version, it automaticlly upgraded and now I seem to have lost it, how do I get it back?

I need to get my zotero back. It has all my sources for my master's thesis which is due in two to three weeks. www.zotero.com is no help. The button for it no longer shows in the bottom of the screen when I open up Firefox. The automatic Firefox upgrade seems to have destroyed my zotero files with all of my bibliographic entries. I need to get this back ASAP! I really do not want to have to take the time to redo the entire thing. www.zotero.com is no help. I sign in and my library has nothing in it. They are no help as they just tell me to down load it again.

Im having trouble importing mov files into premiere pro on creative cloud, original problem was no video and only audio when I imported mov file, so I have installed quicktime after reading that may solve the problem,but now an error message reads codec missing or unavailable, any help would be appreciated

MOV is a wrapper... what is inside the wrapper?

I have applied a description to photos in iPhoto. When I burn the CD, the description is not included. I used to do this with an older version of iPhoto. Am I doing something wrong?

I have been organizing my photos in iPhoto and have written descriptions for them. In the past, with an older version of iPhoto, I would burn a CD. When I would put the CD back in my computer, the description would also be on the CD. Now, I am burning the CD's and there is no record of the description. This is very important as I want the information stored with the photos, both for my own reference, but also if something would happen to me my family would know who are in the photos and what the occasions were. Is there some way I can do this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, sorry! I created an album with the photos I wanted to burn. I gave them new titles, sometimes using batch change when appropriate, otherwise individually. I then clicked on info and in the area labeled description I gave each photo a brief description. When I was done, I went to Share and clicked on burn. When prompted I inserted a blank CD-R in my external CD/DVD burner (which I need to use as my internal one has been replaced twice in less than a year and I was sick of spending $150.00 each time). When it was loaded I clicked the burn button at the bottom of iPhoto. When it was completed I reinserted it into the external CD/DVD burner/reader to see if it was successful. The photos all came up with the new title in my iPhoto library. When I click on info button, there is no description. The information about the date and place where the photo was taken is there, just not the description that I personally included.
I have not tried exporting the photos to finder and then burning as they suggest doing if you want the CD to be readable on Windows program, but I never had to do that with my old iPhoto program, so did not know if that would make a difference.
I can't think of any other information you might need, but if I missed something let me know and I will try to include it. Thanks for your interest in helping!

I tried to import .pdf file into Adobe digital Editions. I received an error message that the version of Adobe Digital Editions does not support password protected files. The file is not password protected. I can open it easily with Adobe acrobat reader and Adobe acrobat professional
Can some please help

I just tried it on my machine and it worked fine .....I have Office 2010 though.

Having trouble importing .xml comments into Captivate 7 project.

I'm trying to import comments made in the Captivate Reviewer program. I exported the comments to my desktop and now when I try to import them into the the project, I get this error.

Hard luck there! I guess you opened the Captivate source file after you sent for review and saved it again (with or without modification).
When you send a Captivate review project (CREV) file for review, it uses some kind of identifier that maps the incoming XML files with the source file. If you open/ edit the source file and save it after sending it for review, a new identifier is created, which results in this kind of mismatch. Hence this issue.
AFAIK, there is no way to import the files. You have to open the XML separately and address the comments manually.

I updated 2 days ago with firefox I think 5.0. When I first go onto my home page, Firefox pops on with a message to update to 3.6.18.

Hi Trancer, I think you have at least 3 different issues going on here.
(1) I will leave the mobile issue for someone more familiar with how update prompts work.
(2) Regarding Taleo, there was a problem when Firefox 19 was released, and that was fixed by the site. I haven't heard of any problems in Firefox 26. Perhaps there is a new issue in Aurora? It is a test version and will have more bugs than regular releases. Why are you running Aurora -- to test the "Metro" style interface for Windows 8?
(3) Regarding Shockwave Flash crashes, try disabling the protected mode feature of the Flash Player plugin. The following pages provide information on how to disable the feature.

That takes effect after Flash is completely unloaded; you might need to exit and restart Firefox.

Well iPhoto would be very confused to find Canon CR2 files on your Nikon...
What camera do you have? Are you sure it's supported? iPhoto supports RAW images from most major cameras - but not all by any means. Some newer cameras require 10.5 and iPhoto 08.

Anyone else having a problem like this with the order...

Like the rest of the world, I got up extra early to order our 2 new Iphones. I got a confirmation number but have yet to receive any email about the order. I have called Verizon a hundred times and they do not see my order. Everyone tells me "oh you have a confirmation number so you will be fine". I check endlessly the status of my order but it doesn't show anything there at all. The last girl I talked to said oh well your order may not have gone thru but we don't know. If you don't get a notification by the 9th then go online and pre-order again. I really do not want to be charged 2x $400 and get 4 phones. Anyone else out there having this problem?

Well just to update in case anyone wanted to know. Finally got someone at Verizon who said that the order did not go thru. I place another order on 2/9 at 3am and everything is going good now. They said the system went down on the 3rd for a short period of time.

Are you saying that the tick-box shown in my screenshot, isn't there? (Yes, this is iTunes 11 - I've turned on the sidebar and the Menu bar. So you can see, this is a CD in my drive that we're looking at.)
If it isn't, go to Edit/Preferences/General and turn on the tick-box box
You can show the Menu Bar (with Edit on it) by using CTRL + B

Having trouble importing select pictures from a cd to my iphoto library

I am having trouble importing (and viewing) my vacation photos from a cd to my iphoto library. Some of the photos I can view in finder, but when i click on the rest, I get a message that says "Item xxxx.jpg is used by mac os x and cannot be opened". When I tried to import the photos to my library... the ones I could view imported no problem, the ones I couldn't view will not import and I get a message saying "unreadable files: the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)". I am just sick that I cannot find these photos!!! =( especially since I had them on iphoto before I cleaned out my computer (so I've had them in my library before). Any ideas? I am in desperate need of help! =(
P.S. When I try to move the pictures to my desktop, I get a notice that says, "you may need to enter the name and pasword for the administrator on this computer to change the item named xxxx.jpg"... when I click continue, another message pops up and says, "the item xxx.jpg contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed"

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you have set in the System/CDs and DVDs preferences to do when a disk is inserted? If the option is not set to the Finder do so and see if that will make any difference.
Otherwise boot into Safe Mode and see if you can copy the files from the CD to a folder on the Desktop. Boot back into your normal account and see if you can import. Or import while still in the Safe Mode.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Brand new Imac user having trouble importing photos (jpgs)

I am a brand new iMac user and am having trouble importing some of my photos into my new computer.
Here is my dilemma:
* All of my pics are jpgs that were shot using a sony DSC-W50 digital camera.
* All were backed up on my exteral harddrive from my old Sony PC.
* I loaded all of them onto my new iMac into the "Photos" area
* When I try to import them to the iPhoto library, I get a message that either says "already in the iPhoto library" or 'unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data"
* I can open all of the photos that I get this error msg on in other photo programs so I know the files are photos and are good.

iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a Database with built-in image viewer, lightweight editing and version control, and like any database, data needs to be imported. However, iPhoto will not import from the iPhoto Library Folder.
So, move the photos to the Desktop and then import them from there.
Here's what happens next:
iPhoto will make a copy of them in the iPhoto Library Folder. There they will be put into the Originals Folder. Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is organised:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.

on import to FCPX don't forget to optimize for a better editing experience …
most of those free/cheap 'converters' from AppStore abuse the open-source ffmpg-engine (without respecting the GPL) with wrong settings …
