HT1349 I cannot access Apple TV (2nd gen) from my Macbook or iPad2.

I keep receiving a message that I need turn on Home Sharing in iTunes, but it's already on. After I try a few times to connect, I receive an error code (-150006). On top of that, the Air Play icon seems to appear intermittently while I'm in iTunes. I have updated my iTunes and Apple TV software and restarted Apple TV as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked that your firewall (if enabled) is allowing access for iTunes, do you run any anti virus software.
Could you your Wi-Fi network be suffering from interference.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Cannot get Apple TV (2nd gen) recognized in Window 8

I have Apple TV (2nd generation).  I am using Windows 8.0 with iTUNES and iTunes does not recogized the Apple TV device.  I also tried another Windows computer running Windows 8.1 and iTunes does NOT recognizie the Apple TV device on this Windows PC either.
I attached the Apple TV to a friends MacBook and the APPLE TV was recognized in iTUNES and I was able to successfully RESTORE the Apple TV to factory default.  No issues with my APPLE TV on a MacBook.
When I attach the APPLE TV unit to my Windows 8.0 laptop - nothing happens.  iTunes will not recognize the device.
Does anyone know the possible cause and solution?
    Thanks

Sounds like you might have a few things backwards.  iTunes does not regonize ATV.  ATV sees iTunes, IF home sharing is enabled correclty and they are connected on the same local network.
Also the only time you connect ATV via USB is for the firmware restore.  To actually use ATV it needs to be connected via a network connection.  Again when that is happening and working iTunes does not show ATV in the display.  That only happened with the first gen ATV.

  • Update Apple TV 2nd Gen from 4.3 to 5.0?

    Hi,
For some reason when I click on update software. It just say "update cannot be performed at moment, try again later" When I try to restore it says the same thing and when I plug it into iTunes and click on "restore" it gets stuck at 1st step "Contacting the Apple TV software update server" and does nothing!
What if anything am I doing wrong?
    Tech specs
Apple TV 2nd Generation Model: A1378
    iTunes 10.6
    Mac os 10.7.3
    Thanks in advance

Hi, gthank you for the quick reply, this seems really helpful, but I can't get the following to work, this is probably because I'm doing it wrong? Please note I am no apple genius!
    1. How do I confirm the ATV is in DFU mode? I've followed the procedure. "hold down and menu" 6 seconds and "Menu and Play/Pause" for 6 seconds, This seems to reboot the device each time and doesn't appear to make any noticable changes.
    2. How do I change my DNS Settings on my router? Is this something to do with network settings or on my actual router settings page? I've looked through the router setup and there doesn't seem to be any way to change the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8. In System Preferences\ Network\ Advanced\ DNS, I can add a DNS Server, Is that where it needs inputing?
    3. How do I change the DNS setting on the actual ATV?
    4. How do you change the Store location to US? Is this just simply a matter of changing the store setting at the bottom of the iTunes Store page?
Really appreciate any help, many thanks

  • HT4363 Cannot get Apple TV 2nd Gen to sync with my Laptop

I have turned on home sharing and the passwords are the same on the apple TV and my laptop.  Have also reset the Apple TV Unit and rebooted the laptop.  However, it is only picking up my ipad which is not even authorized for file sharing.  So frustrated.  If anyone can offer some advise I would be grateful.

The ATV2 does not have an accessible storage thus no syncing capabilities. It is a streaming device and will only show up in iTunes when connected directly for restoring purposes.

  • I cannot access ShaedDocs on Windows XP from my Macbook

I am getting this message every time I try to access the Shared Documents folder on Windows XP: "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "SharedDocs" cannot be found."
I feel like I am about to lose my mind here. I have rebooted my mac and windows many times after adjusting various settings such as turning off file sharing on Windows and resetting my Network settings.
I tried turning off Windows Firewall and closing McAfee running processes on Windows and shutting down Avast Antivirus to no avail.
My only other thought is to uninstall McAfee and see if that was the problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wholly Krap! Uninstalling McAfee "2009 Total Protection" did the trick. I thought the software was garbage anyway. No clue why it would have so much trouble since the program viewed my Macbook as a "friend".

  • Apple TV (2nd Gen) no longer recognized

Apple TV (2nd Gen) no longer recognized since I changed broadband providers and installed a 5th Gen Airport Extreme. Apple Remote App on iPhone suggests I turn on Home Sharing on the Apple TV but I cannot get to the Settings to do so.  Any help appreciated.

    not necessarily.
you also need an itunes store account for that particular country. you can't just change the store location and get access to all the content.

  • Is there a way to view private photos from Flickr on my Apple TV (2nd gen)?

I've just started using Flickr as a central platform from which to view family photos, in part because of the number of ways there are to access them, e.g. iPhone, iPad, web, and Apple TV.
Now, however, it appears the only way to get photos from Flickr to show up my Apple TV (2nd gen), is to make them public. I do not wish for all my photos to be public; is there any way around this restriction?

I am not aware of any workarounds to this restriction.

  • Apple TV (2nd gen) not showing up as a device in iTunes

    Hi all,
I have this problem. The Apple TV (2nd gen) does not show up in iTunes under devices, and I really don't know why.
    Mac OSX 10.6.5
    iTunes 10.1
AppleTV 2nd gen with latest update installed
Network is a WiFi Airport Extreme (Mac and AppleTV are indeed on the same private network)
Airplay works, home sharing works fine. Remote App on iPad and iPhone works.
But the AppleTV is not showing up under devices.
I had a 1st gen AppleTV which I reverted to "factory settings" before unplugging. The 2nd gen ATV had the same name as the 1st gen at the beginning, but I changed it afterwards figuring it might be related.
Under iTunes > preferences I had the AppleTV tab. But I did read somewhere on Apple's site you have to "delete" the AppleTV from the list. So I did, and now the tab cannot be found anymore...
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance.

I seem to recall though that I have seen a screenshot somewhere on the web where iTunes showed the ATV 2nd gen as a device.
Not seen that, but the old ones have a logo that look (to me) like the new one, or at least a small darker grey than they are - they show up nicely in the iPad/iPhone Remote app though
If you are right it would be huge disappointment!
I believe I am correct as I've got new/old AppleTVs connected to 3 Macs and a dual boot Mac Pro currently, and the new unit has never appearede under devices.
.... I really HATE the interface organization right now. Why on planet earth do I have to go under "devices" -> "computer" -> "music" just to play some music?
You, me and many other AppleTV 1 users. I think they'd finally got it right in 3.02 for AppleTV 1 which is a much nicer user interface. Basically now the majority of the top level columns are unused by many people who don't rent but want to playback theit iTunes media.
I firmly believe Apple see this new AppleTV as a relatively cheap accessory for iPads/iPhones/iPods to show video/photos via Airplay on your TV without using a computer.
Secondly it's a vehicle for pushing itunes Store rentals, but for the majority of worldwide users they can only get Movie rentals, and Netflix is of no use bar in a few countries (US/Canada).
I would have much more preferred that a "music" tab (it also applies to all other tabs, movies, tv series and so on) and then just a list of all "home sharing" connected computers from which I could pick the one where the music is stored. Or even, and being Apple it surprises me they didn't implement it, just the list of the available music on my network, with a little tab indicating in which computer it is located.
Yes that would make absolute sense - a dynamic list of available content based on connected libraries that changes as new libraries appeared on/left the local network.
The new menu organisation is quite shoddy to me, ut many users new to AppleTV like it and rave about the devices not knowing what the old one could do - it's a good device don't get me wrong, but I still prefer the older units except for their power consumption and the fact I feel they are more likely to fail due to their high temps and mechanical hard drives.
But here I'm venturing FAR off topic.
    Don't think so, it's a valid comment.
    Use this:

Thank you for your help anyway. I wait for confirmation of somebody else just to make sure...
    Fair enough.

I can't by pass it either. Any suggestions?
Does that mean you cannot move it to the TC and plug in by ethernet? What does bypass mean?
I would still move it closer to the TC.. and just trial it there. Range on some AC models for 2.4ghz is worse than old one. For some people.
Another thing to try is fixed wireless channels.. one of the very few options still available in the AC model.. lock the 2.4ghz to 11, 6, 1 .. try it in that order.

You should always have your apps on your computer.  If you have failed to keep a copy of the old app versions, then you cannot get them back at all.
    Sorry.
Many app makers no longer support the old ios and ipod models

  • MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Airplay Mirroring only sends audio to Apple TV 2nd Gen

Ok, I'm stumped by this one. I have a 15" MBP Early 2011 edition and an Apple TV 2nd Gen. Airplay Mirroring from my MBP to Apple TV only transmits the audio -- the MBP will resize the screen like it's connected to a 16:9 device, and Apple TV will show a black screen like it's about to pick up the video signal, but no video transmits. A couple of times, video started transmitting, but it was about 30 seconds delayed (?!) and extremely choppy. Both devices are connected wirelessly to a Linksys router with 5 GHz (wireless N) capabilities. The router has been configured to Apple's recommendations for Airplay Mirroring.
A little more about my MacBook Pro:
    Early 2011 Model ID: MacBookPro8,2
    OS: 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
    CPU: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6490M, VRAM 256 MB Total
This problem is driving me crazy! Airplay works flawlessly between my iPhone 5 and Apple TV, but not with a much more powerful laptop. Also, I tried Mirroring from a friend's 13" MacBook Pro, and it did the same thing.
Any suggestions, tips, ideas, etc. to get this working is appreciated!

He has an Early-2011 MacBook Pro, which does meet the requirements. The issue is that it is running OS X 10.7.5 and needs to be upgraded to Mountain Lion to use mirroring.

  • 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen, Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts

The issue that I am having is I have 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen and Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts.
When I log onto my Windows user account, open up Itunes and turn on home sharing my Apple TV work perfect but if another family member switches to their Windows user account without logging me out, the home share shows up on Apple TV but it just says "Loading ... Library" and never loads.
If we switch back to my user account, restart iTunes, everything is fine. Is there a way to keep my home share active in ATV2 across multiple user accounts? All of my video is under my account.

You can home-share multiple libraries but only use one account at a time.

In System Preferences>iCloud: Sign Out, reboot and then Sign In with your ID and password.
If Find My Mac is switched on you will be unable to sign out without the previous owners password.

I found this after posting here:

It appears that this is due to firmware corruption and you can fix it by using the micro USB cable and hooking it to iTunes.  I have not tried it yet but supposedly several people were able to resolve their problem this way.  If you do try it, let me know.  I don't have the cable at this time.

  • If I initially rent and begin watching a movie on my Apple TV (2nd Gen) can I later change and finish watching it on my iMac (same iTunes account)?

If I initially rent and begin watching a movie on my Apple TV (2nd Gen) can I later finish watching it on my iMac (registered with same iTunes account)?

The other way to do this would be to download all your rentals onto the Mac, then you can choose watch them on the Mac or Airplay them to the ATV.
At least that way you can switch back and forth as often as you like during the "watching" period AND have 1 month to begin watching it after you've downloaded it.
